I've read the thing about academy voters not screening the movie in a few different places, but I don't have a link to the articles. I'm dropping this. It's become pointless. Everybody here is a prisoner of their geography.

How many times has "Crash" been done? How many times has "Brokeback Mountain" been done? BBM was the only film about something truly new and different being portrayed. It is a groundbreaker... something that simply cannot be said about the other noms, and it was done in a way that made it more universal in its appeal than any supposedly gay-themed movie before it. It opened eyes and changed minds because it was simple, honest and real... attributes that people still look for. It has been said that many academy voters did not even see Brokeback Mountain because of their preconceptions, yet, the makers of Crash lobbied hard for their creation to win over voters.

More fantastic GM styling news... and I noticed that mention of the RWD Ford sedan based on the Mustang platform... excellent! Bring 'em on! Being true to yourself is the only way to succeed!

Agreed, George Clooney's speech was very classy.

That opening sequence was pretty funny, with Stewart "dreaming", and I found the "old western" sequence pretty funny as well. I am going to rent "Crash" soon. It does look good.

Well, I'm staying home from work today and parking myself in the corner in the fetal position. This just ain't right. Seriously, I guess I really wanted it to win the big prize because it hit me on such a deep, personal level. I "got it", and I know now it completed its mission even without that certain little golden guy on its mantel. It played in Peoria, so to speak. Congratulations for the 3 Oscars it did take home. I went to bed at 10:20, so I just read about it this morning. Oh well, I know which movie I will be purchasing when it becomes available on DVD so I can put myself up on that mountain whenever I feel the need.

Will & Grace was made for girls who have gay acquaintances, it wasn't made to show any kind of approximation of real life. Nothing but fluff, really now Croc. OK now, I think I'm going to stop because we're falling into our "old married couple" bickering once again and the rest of C&G doesn't want to see that.

What a truly laughable comparison. Will & Grace? Can you say "no depth"? What should I think of a television show that can't let its main character be human enough to have a relationship? It was sanitized to be "palatable". Moltar, yes, I'd like to see Walk The Line and Crash.

And others. Of course I've read the synopses of the other nominees like everyone else who hasn't seen them all, and they sound like excellent films. I'd like to see Crash, for instance.

No, you misunderstand. This is not about just tonight, and the awards, this is about a movie phenomenon that transcended all classes of people and found a much bigger audience than the far right wing nutjobs thought possible. This is about a group of people, starting with Annie Proulx, who chose not to give us something veiled, but something raw and real and heartfelt, it is an exquisitely made film that has meaning for anyone who sees it, not just those who are "supposed" to like it.
