  1. H-body Monza and Sunbird, both hatch and coupe. They were handsome little devils for their time. The Buick and Olds versions were too similar to the Chevy to count, the Pontiac was the most different in looks. And I was thinking the last-gen N-body Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles were nice cars, Grand Am and Alero.
  2. Beautiful 1973 Monte Carlo Landau in dark brown with black top and the urethane wheels, parked along a suburban highway, for sale.
  3. While I believe some automakers are getting a freer pass than others, every ad I've seen that quotes fuel mileage estimates has the same disclaimer: "YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY". Some vehicles get better than EPA estimates, some get worse, and I do believe a lot of that is in how the car is driven. Wasn't there some sort of revision in EPA testing a few years back that was designed to reflect a more honest result?
  4. All of the professional reviews I've read give very faint praise for the e-Assist setup, saying it is not worth the money, complication, and robbed trunk space with respect to the pitiful return on fuel mileage. In direct comparison with Chevrolet's own Cruze Eco, for example, the Malibu has some arguably serious shortcomings, including real-world fuel mileage and a trunk that is nearly 3 cubic feet smaller. It is clear to this observer that the upcoming 2.5L version of the Malibu will be the one to have, but will the car have to be "re-launched" due to GM's failure to have a competitive powerplant ready at introduction? How will your review differ from all the rest?
  5. Almost as blasphemous as Detroit spending thousands of doll hairs in lease payments.
  6. It's easy for some of us to be perplexed by what I'm trying to say, after all we're on an internet forum. The internet is no big deal to us. But in my work I see plenty of older folks who do not care to enter the Tech Age or whatever "this" is called. It is never too late to learn something new, everyone can hopefully agree on that, but some older folks honestly have no use for I-pads and the like. They've never even owned a pc. They're going to be left adrift by CUE, I believe. And Cadillac's multi-fronted plan to try to help them supports what I'm saying... Cadillac KNOWS this will be an uphill battle for some of their traditional customers. They're about to alienate some people with this system, and that is not the right idea, imo.
  7. Looks like a fantastic trip.
  8. Congratulations, Robert!
  9. I know what it is and I don't think it will work. XTS customers will want easy comfort, not to go back to school. A high percentage of them will need tutelage just to use the freakin' Ipad, let alone CUE.
  10. I'm afraid all this effort will be for naught. A lot of XTS customers will not want to be bothered with all this. I hope there is a simple way to lock in basic settings to prevent inadvertent changes that might prove dangerous (pushing the wrong button while driving, trying to get back to where you were while driving, becoming distracted, etc.) As always, my opinion is, a true luxury car should coddle the driver with EFFORTLESS operation. An I-pad? Really? Just to work the radio and heater? Because a lot of people will only be interested in learning that. Whatever happened to a simple button? ON/OFF. Owning and operating a luxury car should not require going to school. Having reached that point in one's life, one should be comfortable, not troubled.
  11. Pteradactyl (sp?)
  12. I think the ATS is a nice car, and I like the power figures on the 2.5L, it seems like it's at a sweet spot to be GM's next 3800... in EVERYTHING. I wish a manual were offered across all the engines though. I am curious about the diesel ATS. And of course the COUPE. I hope it has a nicer ass than the CTS/J-Lo coupe. I find the leatherette seats in the European cars wears much longer than natural leather, based on vehicles I've seen in my work. It was funny when I had to tell a snobbish BMW owner who spilled nail polish on her seats and who admonished me "not to ruin her leather" when giving it to my detail guy to clean... that her seats were vinyl. The snark drained right out of her. BUT, I did tell her I thought the leatherette was superior in wear and colour retention. I wonder how the leatherette is in the Sonic? Is it as nice as VW's? VW's feels thick and pliable, like it will wear forever.
  13. To me this is an embarrassment for the BMW name. The two brands are like polar opposites, perceptibly for me. It is amazing that BMW thinks Hyundai has something to offer.
  14. The Buick Encore is an amusing little person. The rumored Chevy variant sounds cheeky. I'd like to see the Ford EcoSport sold here. These VWs sound pretty cool... a Polo 2-door CUV wit TDI sounds like a tasty little morsel.

  16. I sincerely hope DIESEL wins out as powerplant of choice to meet these punitive new CAFE rules. I can't think of an easier pill to swallow.
  17. Dude needs to reign in the pricetag.
  18. 1962 Ford Fairlane sedan. Primer black with white top. Red steelies and factory hubcaps.
  19. Black, 2nd-gen RX-7, tubbed, going up the highway. And like a '63 Dodge sedan at the gas station.
  20. There is a new Car Spotters thread, ahem sirs.
  21. Did not change the ride perceptibly for me. The lower stance probably enhanced handling, but since I had it done so quickly after purchase, I honestly do not remember what it was like factory stock. Mr. dfelt, I work where it was repaired, as an estimator at the time. I chose the technician. I told him it wasn't right. But my manager at the time would not step in and make him fix it correctly, and my authority was only as a customer, I had no power over the technician, that was my manager's job. I still think the front end was swayed over, which only takes a few millimeters to send everything else off geometrically. That manager, and later, that technician were both fired from the company. Things are different now. And thanks, Mustang! It was a beauty. I traded it in for the '09 Cobalt at a dealer 30 miles from here, yet I've seen it here in Lancaster on more than one occasion... dirty and uncared for.
