Not much of a sailor, eh? Well, stay on the dock where you'll be safe.

    Finally!

Just got in from a 2 mile walk. Still low humididity here, it was a great morning for a brisk, shirtless walk through the neighborhood and adjoining military cemetery. Saw a groundhog trundling along, and a fox treading light on its feet. Not to mention about a dozen all-wheel drive wabbits.

    Huge cars

We have a Mercury Mountaineer in the shop right now and have gotten 2 new replacement doors in a row that have been damaged in shipping, rendering the job late. Customer was upset but to that point hadn't taken a rental car from the responsible insurance company. So I made arrangements for Enterprise to pick them up so they could use a car for a weekend trip they say they had planned. I thought all was good until I got a call from the customer half an hour later... the insurance company has an upper dollar limit per day they'll pay toward a car and an SUV was another $20 more. Customer refused to pay the difference (understandable), but decided NOT TO TAKE THE FREE RENTAL, saying he didn't like small cars. I tried to assure him a Caliber or Versa has chair-height seats, that it's only for a few days, and that IT'S FREE, but he would not budge. With the effort to keep passengers in position for optimum crash survivability, and to bolster a car's structure to the same end, we have made vehicles claustrophobic inside. A big old cruiser with a slidy, vinyl bench seat and lap belts sounds like a truly refreshing change as a weekend toy, at least to me.

  8. Cool old bombers. We had a hired hand who had a '68 Belvedere in that typical metallic green over metallic green vinyl bench interior that was popular that year, four door sedan with dog dishes if I recall correctly and a Slant Six. This would have been in the mid-70's. That old girl was a toughie.

  13. Cool bunch of photos, BP. Reminds me I haven't been to a good car show like this in a good while.
  14. Tatra apparently unavailable?
  15. We find that Chrysler products are more susceptible to hub failure after an accident if the car is hit on a certain wheel than a lot of other vehicles, but of course it can happen to anything. We don't put hub assemblies on an initial estimate though unless it's blatantly damaged, only on a supplement if it's noisy on a test drive. The sound can be described as a small plane flying overhead and can be amplified by driving next to a retaining wall for the echo effect. Sometimes customers have come back a week later with the noise and we've replaced the hub then, because the damage is so minute as to be undetectable until it gets miles on it. I would say damage is harder to check than wear with something like this, but driving where there is a clear echo is a way to narrow it down if you can't get any play.

  17. How did Chris Doane miss this? One can clearly see the next ML in the background in the top photo above, complete with 3-pointed star and "ML305" on the tailgate! (I'm sure it's supposed to read "ML350", they prolly scrambled the numbers to disguise it).

    TV

I don't think I've turned my television on in the last 2 months, yet I have my internet and TV on the bill from Comcast. Maybe it's time to reevaluate.
