  1. Bowtie, she only has to pay the $1000 deductible if she repairs damage to her car (she pays the first $1000 toward her damages. If the repairs are only $650 to her car, she pays $650, and so on). Damage to your car should be paid in full by her insurance company to you directly (and possibly your leinholder), or your bodyshop. Depending on the insurance company, your rental car will either be direct billed from the rental car agency to her insurance company, or you will pay for it up front then get reimbursed. Hopefully you have her insurance information because they need to pay for this. If you go through your own insurance, you will need to pay your collision deductible, only to be reimbursed at a later date if and when your insurance company wins the case against her insurance company. Easiest thing to do is call her insurance company and let them take care of everything, the repairs, the rental, and be done with it. At least that's how it works here in PA. Best of luck to you getting a quick resolution.

    CAFE of death

Vehicle prices are going to go through the roof, limiting sales which will hurt the car companies. People will hold onto their older cars longer, thereby defeating the stated purpose of these stupid rules. Cars will be tiny. Americans have shown they prefer larger vehicles. This is a big country. This is not Europe or Japan, where smaller vehicles make so much more sense, due to population density, narrow roads, and yes, fuel prices.
  3. After seeing the rendering, I feared for it, but it looks good in the video. I retract my pantyhose statement.
  4. Can Bean-o save the planet?
  5. According to the website, the Chrome Package comes with foglights, chrome grille shell, door handles and tailpipe tip, a nice contrast to the dark Imperial Blue paint. That should dress up the looks of the car, and interestingly mimics the Focus SE Coupe's Deluxe Package for content. The 2LT also is the highest trim level Cobalt to come without a spoiler, and I prefer the better rearward visibility and lower, cleaner look. Satty, a Mini is a sweet car no doubt, but the closest dealership is over 40 miles away, and the base Mini I priced out is still $20k.
  6. I took the junk Generals off my Sierra as soon as I got it and replaced them with Triple Treds. I love 'em.
  7. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is a drain plug on a fuel tank. You'll have to siphon it out or take the tank out and dump it. And I believe the fuel pump on one of those is under the hood... maybe down low somewhere? It's been a while since I've been around one of these old trucks.
  8. Ravenfreak's dad: "brakes are for sissies, son!" :AH-HA_wink:
  9. Last weekend, I drove my mom to Maryland in her car, a 2005 base model white Cobalt sedan with automatic. She got the spoiler, and she put American Racing rims on it with the factory tires. It's a pleasant looking little sedan, and I was duly impressed by the quiet, comfortable ride and the good gas mileage. After 2 hours behind the wheel, I emerged with no discomfort. The little 2.2L Ecotec pulls nicely. I have gone to Chevy's website and priced out an Imperial Blue 2LT coupe with chrome package, 5 speed manual, Pioneer stereo and leather wrapped wheel/redundant stereo controls. Nicely equipped without going whole hog, it would fit me. I've been feeling a bit guilty driving my wonderful Sierra (although it is still in the shop waiting for supplemental parts after my accident) as a daily driver. My driving is 90% urban. I would expect, based on my mom's fuel economy average on her DIC, to nearly double my fuel mileage by doing this, while still having a car with comfort and style, and a GM product. I am asking any and all Cobalt owners to give their honest opinions on the Delta Chevy. What do you like and dislike about the car, what kind of warranty issues have you had, what is your DIC reading for fuel economy average? Thanks for the input in advance.

    CAFE of death

Gasoline gets to $3/gallon, and voila, people start paying attention to fuel economy ratings when they shop for a vehicle. That speaks loud and clear to me that the market is not stupid! Forcing this legislation down our throats is borderline communist... it will severely limit choice in new vehicles. For the sake of the auto industry's future, and our freedom as Americans, we've gotta do something to steer this off course. I don't want to pay huge amounts of money for a vehicle that does not meet my wants or needs.
  11. Vote cast.
  12. I would prefer the GTI 5-door over the Mazda. The HHR SS doesn't really fit in with the Mazda3, it is a more versatile vehicle leaning toward cargo capacity. What Chevrolet has done is bring a unique list of attributes to the market in a way only they can. I like the HHR in general, the SS is just icing on the cake. enzl... how will you know what owners think if they don't testify somewhere? That's why Edmunds has an average of owner ratings posted. Yes, motivated ppl will post, but that's the same for all models rated... you look at how the vehicle averages compared to others it competes with... others you are considering. The Edmunds owner ratings are just one tool when comparing vehicles. A lot of stuff I read in the reviews seems ridiculous and funny, but overall, I like reading the reviews.

    CAFE of death

From where I sit, if we want trucks to retain any kind of work capacity, cars will need to be tiny, 45+ mpg machines. Trucks will still be castrated, but cars will be decimated by this. I am not ready for the sweet, sexy rumble of a V8 engine to be choked off forever in favor of the whir of an electric motor. For God's sake, a Chevrolet Camaro is more than just a bodyshell, it's the whole package. Who in the heck wants to plug in their virtual musclecar?
  14. People can come back any time and update their owner reviews, so its not just new owners posting reviews. enzel, how would you know if a vehicle has rear discs or drums unless you looked? You wouldn't. What difference does that make? And on fuel economy, how will the excellent 2.0L Ecotec turbo match up to the Mazda engine? I'd be willing to bet they'll be very close. The MazdaSpeed6 is already off the market, haha. How long with the Speed3 last? I see the same two on the lot at the local dealer week after week. The HHR SS is a well-engineered package... it will mostly appeal to American-car fans (my kind of people), but the performance should also win over some stubborn import humpers, if they have open minds.
  15. Well, if you read owner reviews of the HHR on Edmunds, you see that they love the HHR's blend of utility, style, comfort, economy and affordability. The HHR may show signs of being inspired by the PT Cruiser (which is itself a good idea let down by Chrysler quality and neglect), but it is no copy. It is a vast improvement over the Chrysler product. And the MazdaSpeed3 cannot match the HHR SS for roominess, yet the HHR SS is extremely close to the Mazda in performance, if not better in a lot of categories. The HHR is far and away better executed than its would-be domestic "competitor", it really has no match for its blend of attributes. And it continues to find its niche in the market.
  16. As we sit here, a dedicated group of GM enthusiasts, blissfully waiting for the new Camaro among other great products, the curtain is being drawn on us. These new CAFE requirements are ever closer to reality, and they will kill any chance for auto enthusiasts to get what they want. Why hasn't anyone mentioned this? By ignoring this coming apocalypse, are we hoping it will go away and our lives will not change? This is a huge blow to so many things automotive we hold dear as Americans. By imposing these ridiculous standards on cars AND light trucks, they are forcing the car companies to kill pickup trucks with work capacity... cars with passenger capacity and any kind of horsepower... Zeta will be aborted... Alpha will be considered too big. How will passion for the automobile survive this? This is a catastrophe in my eyes, a complete and utter disgrace put upon us by a myopic Congress that is using the auto industry as a whipping boy... when so much can be done in so many other areas to help our country become more self-reliant. The market is smart enough to correct itself... let the customer drive the auto companies' offerings... NOT the Congress!!!
  17. If incandescent lightbulbs were phased out tomorrow, the energy savings would make all the weenies forget about our beloved auto industry.
  18. What a birdbrain. That's classic.
  19. Ack 76, these C&G accidents are like mushrooms after a rainstorm, they're everywhere. Seems like you have the list of repairs covered pretty good. The Impalas have a bracket welded into the fender that, once it gets mangled, you may as well throw the fender away. There is also a fiberglass grille support there that looks like it's cracked. The Impalas are strong cars, though, she'll be good as new. Good luck finding the dope.
  20. Bad, yupper. Very bad. I'll be there in about 14 hours.
  21. Expensive, yes, but kindling nonetheless. :AH-HA_wink:
  22. He made himself an outcast, really, what more should we do to him? Leave him alone, I say.
  23. Donk it. Oh wait, not possible. The front and rear tires would touch each other.
  24. Missed that part.
  25. ahem SPACE BAR, people! :AH-HA_wink:
