I hate this phenomenon. It truly is extremely unsafe. I cannot tell you guys how many times I've had to make defensive moves to keep from being hit because of these stupid asses. As part of Onstar, my truck has a built-in phone that is really simple and easy to use... push one button on the rearview mirror, and that's it, the rest is voice commands... even then, I've used it a few times, I'm just not into it that much.

I just want to know all the different kinds of data that are being compiled, and what it's being used for. If it is being used to help GM engineer better vehicles, I am somewhat for it, if it is being used to judge me as a vehicle owner, it's not cool.

Onstar has a lot of nice benefits, to be sure. In particular, I like the lockout protection, emergency notification, and telephone service. But I am feeling a bit uneasy about the monthly email diagnostic report, showing the mileage at the time, oil life index, and other diagnostic checks. I am half afraid to drive my truck the way I want to drive it for fear of being watched. If I want to do a burnout for some reason, or even exceed the speed limit... could this information that's being gathered be used against me, for example, if I have a warranty issue in the future? Don't get me wrong, I am not going to beat the hell out of my new truck, I love it too much to abuse it, but I bought it to have fun with it once in a while... somehow, feeling watched doesn't make me feel better. I am trying to decide if the benefits outweigh the level of intrusion into my privacy that I feel when I consider if I want to continue the Onstar service after the trial period is overwith. Does anyone have any Onstar stories to share?

Yeah, I forgot about it being the first day of DST until I logged on this morning and my computer had the new correct time. I guess the earlier change to DST came in a Windows update I downloaded at some point? Anyway y'all, Rock out with your clock out! Be on time! The first few days of this I always feel robbed of an hour until I get used to it.

I live in Amish Country Ground Zero, and I've never heard of this. I agree with usonia, however, about the inbreeding thing. It's a danger to Amish culture.

Aw man, GMTG74, that's a whole other project, and a worthy one. I hope that car is preserved, not cut up and wasted. I wouldn't mind having that thing if I had a place to keep it out of the weather.
