  1. Works for me, his "talents" would be better used in the realms of useless fashion.
  2. Nice, tidy, little theory there. It's the balance sheet of the last 3-4 decades I'm thinking of. Net loss is what I see there.
  3. The answer to your question is squat. GM alone dramatically overshadows all of the transplants contributions just in employment, let alone what you have when Ford and Chrysler are added. Economic activity surrounding the domestics is like a tidal wave compared to the isolated raindrops the transplants provide via employment. Those foreign plants are merely vehicles for exporting wealth. All of which is beside the point. We need to know the answers to such questions as the one I began this thread with before we can even begin to know what to do about it.
  4. No. I don't think so. Pontiac was spared the indignity of being reduced to a shabby end like Plymouth was. I have none of your optimism that any good will come from this whatsoever. I see it as nothing but loss and squandered opportunity. When we lose a Plymouth, or an Oldsmobile... or a Pontiac, we lose another thread of our national fabric. Another small bit of the glue that has long given us an identity as Americans passes away. What is happening to our auto industry, though of great magnitude, is only a sliver of the general fading of what could be called American. We witness the decline right in front of us, and yet fail to really see it. I will always miss Pontiac, but I will miss knowing what it means to be an American even more. We are fast becoming a province of some global hegemony that none of us truly understand. I simply find that to be sad
  5. Thanks. I think that this is the sort of question we need to be asking ourselves today. We've ignored such realities for far too long.
  6. I think you have missed a significant slice of the story if this is your complete impression.
  7. Or the dealers in your area just didn't order many. The sales have actually been increasing for several months to a record month of over 2,700 units in March. Interest seems to be regional, or dependent on the effort of local dealers, but demand is quite strong for the conditions. The G8 is one of very few bright spots in GM's recent sales tallies.
  8. Not really paranoia anymore - fears are being realized.
  9. That's wonderful news! I hadn't heard that.
  10. Good luck .and don't forget to kick Bangle for me.
  11. Just how much wealth have we exported by buying foreign cars since 1970?
  12. Learning to shift with my left hand would be interesting...
  13. Those things ran forever!
  14. No, it is highly unlikely that I'll be in a position to buy anything before all of the new Pontiacs have ridden off into the sunset. As I told the sales guy, I just stopped by to pay my respects. My plan was to get a 2010 G8 ST.
  15. If they had only listened to me....
  16. Hyper, for once we completely agree.
  17. Perhaps. But I don't "get what I need" new unless it is also what I want. And I don't get inspiration from the 'Stones.
  18. They haven't revoked my admin status yet...
  19. Actually, I don't. And I treasure having the freedom not to.
  20. 1. You have way more faith in those folks than I do, I really question how a short study of the industry could possibly have them up to speed. 2.No compromise, No surrender
