  1. There is something wrong with it if it is a car designed as an econo model (like Aveo). The economy should be a feature, not a design principle, on any Pontiac.
  2. Of course GM would have to pull-off a record-breaking turnaround first to be able to afford it.
  3. Just imagine a fifth gen Camaro reproduced at 3/4 scale ( in all the "hardparts") and I think we'd have a real winner.
  4. I have no doubt of that, just wanted to look ahead a bit farther. Of course, that tech could also apply at a 3/4 scale.
  5. EDIT: It would also allow for Physically smaller transmissions, driveshafts, rear diffs, brakes, and so on. A perfect driveline for smaller, lighter cars. Imagine the "big block swaps" people would dream up!
  6. That's the recipe! :AH-HA_wink:
  7. Good steps for now, but what about ten years out? If they did create a smaller V8 envelope, it could give the V8 a much longer lifespan. Could be very, very, cool.
  8. We don't agree on the details though. My approach/lineup would be very different. Small performance cars yes, but no econo models. A Mini competitor yes, a re-badged Aveo no. All Pontiacs should be stylish and fun - no bottom-feeding.
  9. While I find the idea of small V8s very interesting, you can't gain enough simply by dropping the displacement. You'd have to engineer a new line of V8s with a smaller and lighter overall envelope to really get the full benefit. I like that idea in principle, but it would be enormously expensive and would have implications for anything carrying a v8 option including trucks. As much as I hate to say it, I just can't see GM springing for two different V8 families given the times. Still, I wish that they would. A new twist on the old big block/small block approach would be very cool.
  10. I was thinking that exactly. But the Escalade should be phased-out gradually. I do think that the replacement(s) should carry new names. EXT should become a Zeta along the lines of the Denali XT, but I still don't see a lambda as a direct replacement (or as a caddy really).
  11. It's all about the production volume, sales trends should help considerably (at least at first).
  12. I have been wondering though, why so many V6 cars get such lousy MPG. I think that might be a place to find quite a bit of improvement in the CAFE numbers.
  13. Take a look at the difference in MPG between current V8 cars and V6 cars, the difference is minimal at best. No, I won't make that trade. 'sides, GM has been building V8 cars that can crack 30 MPG in real-world mileage for about a decade now. Lighter cars are the answer (well, most of it). A V8 is part of Camaro's DNA - it is a requirement.
  14. In a word: no.
  15. For the G8 GXP, the end of this year as an 09 model.
  16. Pontiac could not only survive, but it could be a hot brand - if anyone with a clue was in charge.
  17. And utilize the damn plant!
  18. Probably both, 68. A healthy economy provided some cover for the scum like BH to run their scams. Let's hope that the tough times can weed out more dealers like this one.
  19. This morning it really hit me like a ton of bricks. This year has been all about panic and overreaction. From the obvious confusion of all of the federal legislators to the G3, there has been a strong tendancy to rush headlong into disaster mode. Yes, things are bad and will get worse, but I can't help thinking that no one is thinking anything through before reacting. Maybe it is just that I have had the experience of living through the late '70's, but I see the degree of panic exhibited across our society as near-hysterical. I don't mean to diminish the severity of things, but I do worry that we are so afraid now that we are flailing about and taking actions we will find hard to live with down the road.
  20. Criminal.
  21. Told you it would be easy. Glad you got it done, now on to the next adventure.
  22. I saw it. Sorry if I offend with this, but to me it is just a poor conversion on a huge, ugly, FWD car. I'd derby it.
  23. Now, that's wishful thinking! It will be universally panned in the automotive press.
