  1. The whole country is actually purple ( or grey). It is anachonisms like the two-party-system and the electoral college that make it appear to be so fractured into two armed camps.
  2. This be true.
  3. The polarization is mostly illusion, but the shades of grey are very real.
  4. Satty, it's beginning to scare me how much I find myself agreeing with you in the political threads! We need a successful 3rd party so badly.
  5. Absolute truth.
  6. My point is that we waste our energies trying to make everyone comply with one set of morals or another as if we were all the same. It just seems so idiotic to me. If being a bible thumper is your thing, then fine. Just allow me to not be one in peace. Simple. In this country like no other diversity is strength, yet we do our best to stamp it out at every turn with some demand for some sort of enforced conformity. Utterly senseless. We will never all agree on most of these "issues" so why not leave it to individual choice and judgement? Everybody wins that way - we can each live as we choose. Sounds like real freedom to me.
  7. See the new rules here: http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=25466
  8. Rules already posted and stickied here in the lounge. http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...showtopic=25466
  9. We have come to an agreement on how to handle political threads on C&G. For at least this political season, such threads will be allowed with the following caveats. 1. Any thread will have to maintain the same level of civility with or without political discussion. 2. No campaigning - period. 3. Any overt nastiness will lead to the topic being locked or deleted. 4. Any thread that has politics as its topic must only be posted in the lounge. 5. We reserve the right to re-invoke Rule #2 if things get out of hand. 6. All political threads must be clearly indentified as such in the title or subtitle. 7. Comment on the candidates, issues, or parties - not the voters (members).
  10. Seriously though, I just don't understand the compulsion in this country with minding everyone else's business. Aren't we supposed to be about freedom?
  11. The rule is about to be suspended for at least a trial period. There are conditions which will be posted soon.
  12. Actually, hunting (successfully) takes a great deal of skill, be it with rifle or bow and arrow.
  13. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Fly's back.
  14. The things we Americans waste our time on: Abortion Flag burning Gay marriage Cloning The drug war "In God We Trust" "Under God" A tax code crafted so that no one can understand it Most of this stuff could be solved by people simply minding ther own business. The simple truth is that we no longer respect the freedom of others to be what, how, and who they choose to be.
  15. Even the Europeans don't want to do that!
  16. No vote from me, I'm sick of the standard back and forth. I am Libertarian with a healthy dose of pragmatic.
  17. A valid point. She is interesting, but I can't say that I want her brand of politics behind the big desk. I know she pleases the extreme right, but I was hoping that McCain wouldn't appease those folks with his pick. I was disapppointed.
  18. You should watch C-span more often, it is actually the dems that have been pushing nuclear lately. Clean coal scares them more than nukes these days. The proposals I heard in hearings led by Pelosi herself called for well over 100 new nuclear plants in a ten year period. A rediculuos number given nimby and other roadblocks, yet they used it as justification for meeting porposed CO2 limits. I was screaming at the TV.
  19. I think I have this right, but I may have missed something: Shortest: 1986 Monte Carlo SS, traded after 3 months for my '87 El Camino SS longest: 1979 GMC High Sierra 2500 4x4, had it well over a decade (but the Mothertruck may have been around just as long by now)
  20. Exactly my reaction.
  21. With that clarification, we agree. Still, I am very pleased to see that the states are not waiting for the feds to get their act together and are moving forward now.
  22. We got lucky here too, though I hear that a small tornado is suspected not too far away. As usual with heavy rains, I got some water in the basement and the lower level of the barn (very minor). That, and a few branches and lots of leaves down sums it up. As dry as it has been here this year, on balance Hanna was a good thing locally.
  23. Now this thread is getting somewhere! It is far better to be focusing on ideas leading to solutions than it is to thump on the candidates and re-hash the past. oldsmoboi: I have to agree about the undue influence of the religious right over the Republican party - that trashes what could be a great thing. I do, however, disagree about state control of energy issues. I see it as 50 chances to get it right, though federal support will also be critical in getting things going.
  24. Excellent coverage of those issues, Mr. Blu! I agree on all points.
  25. On that, I am certain that you are mistaken.
