  1. Saw a chop on another site and I agree - it would be a great idea. The HHR has tons of fans across all age ranges and a pickup could only help. It really is one of GM's better ideas in recent memory.
  2. I don't do fast food chains unless I'm starving and there is no other choice.
  3. Sounds like fun to me.
  4. Yeah, sorry about that. I hadn't expected so many different cars from the June show, nor had I expected to stay very long. I will take the camera no matter my expectations next time. I really, really, hope that Olds custom shows up again so that all of you get to see why I was so impressed.
  5. The thing will do mid teens under the right conditions, my 6.0 did 11 with a tailwind. I may do a real check sometime soon. It's been quite a while, and most of my driving is stop and go with it.
  6. Amazing show at the Chesterbrook July Cruise Night. The highlight was a full custom '49 Olds Sedanette with insanely good workmanship. I'm not usually into these but it really was that good. Another car of note was a '37 Buick 8 Super that was an unrestored survivor with that patina that 68 loves so much. I think that there were 4 or 5 First gen Monte Carlos including one phantom SS complete with a Chevelle cowl induction hood molded into the original Monte hood ( fully Functional). Also there was a Nask Metropolitan with a GM v6, a '69 Caprice (unrestored) with 29k original miles, a '70 Nova SS with 21k original miles, a Plum Crazy Hemicuda, an Atomic Orange Zo6, a '41 Chevy convertible, a Hudson Terraplane hotrod, a '53 or '54 Chevy Sedan Delivery, an unrestored 409 Impala SS, and so on, and so on. Just a great show.
  7. Killer collection, Ted! Amazing.
  8. The Duramax is all over the place with mileage depending on how I'm using it - so I really don't keep track. There are just too many variables: 2wd vs. 4wd, loaded vs. empty, towing vs. not towing, plowing vs. not plowing, babying it vs. standing on it (usually the case). Even so, it does much better than the 6.0 gas engined 2001 I used to have. That truck was a real pig on fuel.
  9. GM built planty of unique car during the era (ZL-1/COPO Camaros etc.) that now bring gobs of cash at auctions. But Chrysler went beyond unique straight into "oddball" with weird combinations, one-year cars, one-of six examples, and so forth. It was as if there were no rules on Chrysler's assembly lines - if someone ordered it, they would build it.
  10. Well, portholes on anything other than a Buick usually look completely lousy and wrong. But somehow, the fact that the HHR has that domed hood and the portholes were on it rather than the fender, almost gives it a pass.
  11. Obviously, judging by your own post, the rules are not always followed. That automatically permits the "possibility" I mentioned.
  12. Saw portholes on an HHR panel the other day...
  13. Not a chance. At 45, I won't be changing my spots. No beige, no Buick, no Caddy, no Saab, no FWD...
  14. I'd really like to have these. Dreams can be maddening!
  15. Don't forget that the 'Cuda and Challenger were not clones. Even the wheelbase is different.
  16. Completely agreed! There is no way that the odd off-spec car is going to impact our country in any measurable or meaningful way. Below a certain number, the feds should just not waste time keeping these cars out.
  17. And, I can see how some Camaro purists might object to that. However, I'd rather have the solid car that the weight buys you than a featherweight and flimsy car. I don't think the performance will be diminished in any way within its class by the weight. As for MPG, in a car such as Camaro that is a concern much farther down the list than it would be for say, a Cobalt. Not that the Camaro isn't very competitive within class on MPG, because it is.
  18. AFM is the only reason for the L99 to exist. GM's AFM will not work with a manual. The weight doesn't bother me one bit, but then I'd never buy an automatic Camaro new anyway. It would be almost as wrong as an automatic Vette.
  19. I'm going to have to let PCS himself explain the details, but I can tell you that I was informed of one of these cars being built with an LS7 long before the 427 project was confirmed anywhere on the net. This UK car really muddies the waters, but certainly is within the realm of possibility. Since then, PCS has been dropping hints and then talking openly about this car for quite some time now. The only new aspect to the story is this second such car in the UK. 'bloke, I share one bit of puzzlement with you on this topic. I also wonder how PCS will manage bringing the car home to the US legally. It certainly could be brought here under the auspices of GM for the first year without issue, after that it would need to be crushed, sent back to OZ, or officially brought into compliance with federal rules as a grey market car. It can be done, but it would be both expensive and difficult.
  20. I think that link is in one of the other Camaro threads. If not, then thanks for posting it.
  21. To a point, I guess. But mostly just tired, it's been a very long week.
  22. No doubt.
  23. I could not give a meaningful response on the plates as I simply don't have that information. However, the UK car isn't really the subject here - PCS' car is. The only determining factor here would be the engine as the outward appearance was not at issue. In fact, the car was described to me as being outwardly identical to production HSV fare. This was prior to any production announcement of the 427 by many months. It was not made public by PCS until some time after he told me that the car was being built. Bottom line: nothing in these photos can lead us to a conclusion here. The answer lies under the hood.
  24. The notion you seem to be entertaining that PCS and I might be conspiring together is absurd.
