  1. Decka, I saw your exact car today(pre-mod and crash), even the color. If you could find another one transferring all your "goodies" to it just might be the way to go. You did a nice job making that car more appealing.
  2. Another aspect of the problem is the sad state of public transportation in this country. And our failure to move toward tele-commuting in a meaningful way even though a huge number of jobs require only a computer and internet access.
  3. One other factor that fuels my dislike of japanese cars is the fact that they tend to be high-winders making power at the upper end of the RPM range. I much prefer low-end torque. And then there is styling, here the answer is simple: I don't like any of it. The latest Acuras are as close as it gets to good, and they are not stunning to be sure. The balance run from bland, to odd, to downright ugly (FJ,Prius)
  4. Hydrogen is viable right now with existing engine technology if an infrastructure is created. My main point is that greater diversification is the answer, not a wholesale conversion to a single alternative fuel.
  5. I forgot methane.
  6. Read my above post for a better understanding of my position on Japanese vehicles. It seems you guys are focused on mid-size FWD sedans- is that a fair statement? That is not a segment I will ever be interested in and I don't see much major difference between any of the entries in it. They all seem... adequate.
  7. Last time I checked Silverado and GTO were still available and will be again. No, none of the Japanese cars you mentioned would meet my minimum criteria. I need a real 3/4 ton truck and Japan doesn't make one. The sports cars don't measure up to my GTO, and the FJ can't touch the Tahoe (I wouldn't buy anyone's compact SUV so that's not exactly fair, I admit). So, no, nothing in that list would work for me at all.
  8. Can't come soon enough.
  9. It is pathetic that we haven't developed any of the following into viable alternatives. It should have been started in the 70s and in place by the end of the 80s. Propane ethanol natural gas Hydrogen (non-fuel cell) Bio diesel A diversified fuel supply could do so many good things for the world (other than OPEC). The developed world has been damn lazy about this for decades too long.
  10. You can't get blood from a stone, the leaders of the UAW are smart enough to realize it. They, and the domestics will negotiate their way back to reality, otherwise it is lose, lose. A soft landing is what the UAW needs to engineer for its members as the domestic industry is in freefall until these issues are resolved. I am certain that they will be.
  11. They are selling out because they are highly desireable cars - period.
  12. The sad part of all of this is this thread was started to make us all aware of an article about positive developments for GM. A good positive piece of news about a good product and its affect on the marketplace. Sadly, it became a chorus of not good enough, not accurate, doesn't matter GM still lags behind etc., etc., ad nauseum. One of you asked what GM makes that would get us into their showrooms. Silverado - I bought one (my third new one by the way) GTO - I bought one of these too. GMT800/900 - Would be my "go to" choice in SUVs hands down. Corvette - class leading, most bang-for- the- buck sportscar on the planet. Kappa - undeniable design and sales success I could keep going but you get the point. The japanese? Listen to the crickets chirping: no one's home
  13. Great addition to the thread. And sign one of those books for me. One thing: I think the Impala SS wheels may have been made by ROH, I'm not sure but I don't think it was American Racing.
  14. Nice!
  15. Keep us posted, this car is a hell of a find. Oh, you may want to reconsider the color change thing. But, I'll let OCN tell you why.
  16. OK, I'm not going to address the 87 points of contention here. Let me just say this, I'm not "sensitive", I'm pissed. Why? Because every bit of positive news about GM gets greeted by someone crapping all over it the moment it is posted. I'll just leave it there.
  17. At 52 votes, are we all done? Some very interesting results if we are. An Impala, a Buick , and an El Camino as the top three. I never would have guessed.
  18. Yeah, yeah heard it before. These cars are hits plain and simple, let's just celebrate that for a while shall we?
  19. I hope we've heard the "Kappa was a mistake" garbage for the last time. This is great stuff.
  20. Bump for OCN and Balthazar to see.
  21. An old friend of mine is responsible for this gem: "Yo mama so dry, even the crabs carry canteens"
  22. Thanks for posting that, Guy. It is the most concise relation of the Monaro/GTO story I have read to date.
