  1. Just saw a GMC ad during the NFC Championship game, where they were touting 'celebrate the New Year' now with 19% off MSRP. So is the unstated message is they are overpriced by 19% ?
  2. Stayed home this weekend w/ all the foul weather, and have watched a bunch of movies. One old movie w/ Robert Mitchum (Foreign Intrigue, 1956) had this neat '49 Delahaye 135 cabriolet...blue w/ red interior, the top was half open in some scenes. Also watched another Mitchum film--'The Friends of Eddie Coyle' (1973)...gritty '70s crime film set in the Boston area..had a gold late 60s Mercedes S-class, a neat lime green '71 Road Runner, several '71-72 Galaxies and LTDs, a dark green w/ white top '69 Camaro SS, a Karmann Ghia, and Mitchum drove a battered matte black '62 Cadillac Sedan de Ville.
  3. To quote a 40+ yr old song--- Don't stop thinking about tomorrow Don't stop, it'll soon be here It'll be, better than before Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone
  4. Mine is a '14. I need to check the settings to see if there is an auto on setting for them.
  5. Something funny about having the AWD SUV and FWD CUV in the garage, with the RWD sedan outside..
  6. My Grand Cherokee is the same way--one thing I do like is how the buttons for those appear on the touchscreen at startup...so I punch them before the regular screen comes up and I have to navigate the menus to get to them. Does yours do that? Agreed about the 3.6, very smooth engine.
  7. More like retreating to their home soil...GM has given up on a lot of their worldwide operations with the sale of Opel, etc.
  8. Coming down heavy again...
  9. Those funky Eurovans do have their charm. The snow stopped for a while...a lot of wind blown snow in my driveway...shoveled a path from the garage to my sister's STS and around it, brushed off the snow on it. Must be 8-10 inches or more drifted behind it down the driveway to the street...ugh. And now it's snowing again..
  10. Mine is really comfortable and smooth on road trips. I've taken a bunch of close trips around here (2-3 hr drives) and wouldn't hesitate to take it on a longer trip.
  11. Which is a good thing w/ luxury cars. Sales numbers aren't everything..not talking about Wal-Mart or Toyota.
  12. Definitely several trips...I've pretty much seen enough of the South and Southwest, so I'd like to go cross country on a Northern route, maybe I-90. I've done a lot of I-80 and I-40 in the past, parts of I-10. I've driven parts of the Pacific Coast Highway, but would love to drive the full length. Did the NE Ohio to Florida Keys trips many times as a kid in the family RVs and Town Car and also alone in my Mustang GT when I was 18. A coupe or convertible could be fun also...
  13. On the subject of road trips, my longest was my last...June 2017 in my '14 Grand Cherokee...Phoenix, Arizona to Cleveland, Ohio in approx. 52 hours and 2099 miles. Was not fun, but something that had to be done..last trip of my move and had to get 6 dogs home. I would like to take a more relaxed pace coast-to-coast road trip some day, not sure what I'd do it in...
  14. I enjoyed being a teenager in the 80s...lots of 80s cars I love, along w/ 80s music and movies... A bit of non-automotive randomness...was up late last night watching Audioslave, Soundgarden, Eagles, and Prince videos on YouTube...missing some of my favorite musicians that have passed in recent years. Had a funny thought---what if Freddie Mercury had made an album in the 80s w/ John Mellencamp? It could have been titled 'Mercury Cougar'... (John Mellencamp went by the stage name Johnny Cougar then John Cougar in the 80s).
  15. Cool..neat experience I'm sure. I did make many road trips from NE Ohio to S Florida and places around the Midwest growing up in my Dad's various Town Cars from the 70s-90s. Very comfortable road trip cars. My sister's '00 DTS was very comfortable on road trips, I did several Phoenix to San Diego and Phoenix to Long Beach drives in it over the 5 years she had it.
  16. Those early 70s 442s were such good looking cars...
  17. I haven't been in the G70, but the Tesla Model 3 is cheap and nasty inside (sat in one a while back)...and generic looking outside. The G70 seems like it would be a much nicer daily driver.
  18. This is pretty cool...not my pics..saw these posted on a Facebook group..there was this display of vintage Cadillac dealer promo models (1/25th scale, old Johan promos) at the Detroit Auto Show. Don't know where at the show it was (wasn't there). I have several of these in my promo collection. Wish I'd been there to see them.
  19. Got the STS back today, tire turned out to be a nail..she got a bunch of other work done the week it was in the shop--new spark plugs, coils, valve cover and intake manifold gaskets, and a bunch of front suspension work--new springs, shocks, struts, stabilizer bar, front end alignment, bushings. Drives much smoother and quieter now.
  20. A bit excessive with the stick on stuff...my brother is into stick on aftermarket crap, but not to that level. I did have a few back window decals on my old Jeep incl. a Broncos decal. So far I've been restrained on my second Jeep, just my alma mater and an Apple decal.
  21. I want to see more of Maine..was up there in the 90s when my sister lived in Boston..drove up to Kennebunkport and Portland...beautiful state w/ some great beaches.
  22. I still love Colorado (lived there 12 years), but the parts I like (Denver, Boulder) have become quite expensive since I left. And it's pretty dry and beige, no beaches. Ohio has some rather high property tax (Over $4000/yr on my $165k house and about the same on the family farm which is valued around $285k). and regional income tax (RITA) here in the Cleveland area.
  23. Florida has hurricanes and flooding, the West Coast has wildfires, earthquakes, mudslides and other issues. I love parts of California, but the cost of living and traffic has long turned me off..I like the PNW also...Oregon's beaches in particular I've enjoyed visiting.. Another region w/ mountains (albeit lower) and beaches that I like is the NE..... I do like Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts quite a bit..the greenery and coast..I could see myself living up there.
  24. I've spent a lot more time in clogged freeway rush hour traffic than city rush hour traffic..kind of hate bumper-to-bumper freeway traffic especially on 115 degree days when the AC wasn't working....downtown Scottsdale and downtown Phoenix (even as large a city as it is) surface street traffic weren't bad compared to the 10 and 202 freeways coming from the burbs into Phoenix. Denver freeway traffic on the 25 could be bad also....especially in blizzards. For years I had commutes of where I was I living in a central city neighborhood of Phoenix and commuting to distant suburban office parks by freeway.. sometimes I'd be against the prevailing traffic flow, other times in reverse of it. Working in Scottsdale, though, it was all surface streets, with the last 2 miles the most congested at rush hour. And when I lived in Denver, for a couple years I had a 1/2 mile commute... So far in Cleveland my commute has been walking from my kitchen to my home office..;)
  25. Paying for parking for work would definitely make me think about public transportation. Never had to in past jobs, always had a company parking lot or garage.
