  1. I guess it's honest simplicity of construction is part of the appeal, like the Land Rover Defender. Retro without trying to be retro.
  2. Yeah, the 2nd gen Liberty was about the size of the 1st gen Grand Cherokee...each generation gets larger; today's wild looking Cherokee is actually longer than the 2nd gen GC...
  3. Actually, the G-wagen dates from the late 70s...yes, they are a low volume niche vehicle, but I see them often enough...seem about as common as Range Rovers (not the Sport, but the big one) around here.. they sell well enough worldwide to have them had continued far beyond their original variation...
  4. Ah, would never have guessed a Liberty, as they were considered a compact. I thought you had said a midsize.
  5. I would assume...the odds of Balthy buying a Merc seem as unlikely as you buying a Cadillac...
  6. I can only think of a few candidates--midsize RWD/4WD SUV, 2005 or newer, domestic, V6...Grand Cherokee, Durango/Aspen, Explorer/Mariner/Aviator, 1st gen SRX (long shot as it was more of a wagon than an SUV/CUV).
  7. Whatever..believe what you want to believe...3dr and 5dr have been applied to Rabbits, Golfs, Omnis, Escorts, etc since the 70s-80s..not just SUVs and CUVs..but I guess facts like that don't apply in the Ed Gein Fanclub. Anyway, back to the thread topic, gray, black or another color?
  8. You are really pedantic and.or deranged, aren't you?? No one said anything about entering or exiting through the rear hatch... 3dr/5dr has been a standard designation for decades...even in the era of print magazines it was a standard designation--in the real world, not your fantasy world. And what in the hell do the dimensions of a Volare (a car from 40 years ago that few remember and fewer care about) have to do with anything???
  9. Actually, 5dr is the standard designation for 4dr hatchbacks, has been for 3-4 decades. Newer than 2010?
  10. Toyota 4Runner would be a good reliable choice, and it fits all the parameters so far..but I get the impression Balthy wouldn't go Japanese..
  11. Apparently, the original Corvair concept is seafoam green, there is a recreation in red. But the seafoam green was apparently scrapped in '57. So it's a mystery, I suppose.. http://www.oldcarsweekly.com/news/hobby-news/legendary-1954-chevrolet-corvair-dream-car-recreated
  12. Those had a straight 6 (mine is an '00 w/ the 6).....however, the 3rd gen from '05-10 had a V6, as did the Durango. I can't see Balthy going w/ a Mopar, though. Forgot that detail..one of GM's forgotten engines.
  13. Hmmm...I'm thinking a GMT-360 or Explorer/Mariner. Warmer or colder?
  14. What questions? Didn't see any...thought you wanted 11 guesses. Edit: ah...you wanted us to ask questions. Ok...FWD/AWD?
  15. Aztek, Rendezvous, TrailBlazer or Envoy.
  16. By the way, heard on the radio 'Prius' is growing in popularity as a baby name...for boys and girls. Kind of like how 'Lexus' was popular a few years ago..
  17. Some probably do...many are urban cowboys...putting on appearances.
  18. I see lots of lifted, off-road looking trucks around here, very popular in AZ....very few probably go off-road, though...most look too clean and polished..
  19. I noticed on the way to work yesterday morning that the neighborhood Toyota store has two of the new Priuses on the front row..a white one and a dark red one (like in the Super Bowl ads)...looking pretty badass lined up w/ the candy colored Scions and Yarises (I didn't realize they still offered a 3dr verison of teh Yaris)..
  20. Let's see...my current commute is approx 24 miles a day, 5 days a week. 120 miles a week, and then maybe another 25 miles around town on the weekends and evenings. So maybe 150 miles a week. At current gas prices, it's only about $20-25 a week to fill up (I average 16 mpg). So an electric w/ a 200 mile range could work for me, but I'd need an outlet outside to plug it in..don't have a 220 outlet. My current office parking garage is putting in charging stations for EVs. But it's all a moot point, since in a few months, my commute will probably be completely different...
  21. Then you are SOL, I guess... LOL. Never leave home without adequate fuel or charge.
  22. I suspect older EVs will be recycled before the rabble can get ahold of them..
  23. I had older parents also..Dad born in 1921 (WW II Army Air Corps vet), Mom in 1931...brother born in '49, sister in '57, myself in '70...from my Dad I got into Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr, from my Mom I discovered Elvis and '60s soul, from my older brother and sister '60s-70s rock and pop....I had a Walkman early also in the 80s, and great radio stations in E. Ohio then S. Florida to listen to. So being a Gen Xer w/ Baby Boomer siblings and older folks..it made for interesting experiences growing up..my Dad retired at age 58, bought the first family RV and a beach house in Florida, so we went from 2 houses to 3 and an RV..grew up w/ a lot of road trips.
  24. The tighter turning radius has nothing to do with it being BOF, it's because of its north-south RWD/4WD drivetrain rather than the transverse FWD/AWD layout of the Equinox, Explorer, etc. I understand what you are staying and the point I am making is some people here feel Unibody design is better than BOF and can handle better than BOF. Yes the powertrain layout affects how they can do the suspension and the turn in and out of the steering. Yet the over all handling of my BOF is superior to many Unibody showing that engineering can and does continue to improve old technology to outperform many newer technologies. Kind of a moot point, as BOF is only used for trucks and full size SUVs today, and people don't buy those for handling.
