They have no problem selling cars here in Arizona... apparently we don't have the same ancient, idiotic dealer regulations here.- 10 replies

Are car lots closed on Sunday in NJ? That's one thing I miss about places I lived in the past..was fun to go 'tire kicking' on Sundays and stroll around looking at cars without being hassled by sales resource units. Everything is open on Sundays here.

I can't see myself considering an electric car until the range and charging ability is as simple and ubiquitous as going to a gas station, but I definitely like Tesla the company and esp. the Model S...being in the software biz myself, I like Tesla quite a bit as a tech company (and small shareholder--I have a few shares in my investment portfolio, along w/ GM, Ford, Daimler shares as far as car companies go). The Model X just doesn't appeal to me, but I'm not in that market... the Model X looks bland compared to the sexy Model S. The Cayenne, Range Rover Sport, M-B GLS, and Escalade look much more premium and appealing in the premium CUV/SUV market... I want to see them succeed--as a car enthusiast and tech enthusiast, I wouldn't root against an exciting, upstart American tech company that is also an exciting upstart American car company... It's a new premium brand, and for some, that's going to be a hard sell over the established premium brands..

I guess I missed a lot in '13-15..wasn't around much those years, missed when all the new people appeared (Motor Trend forums refugees, I've read)? Some of them deserve a lot of mark downs, IMO... along with some of the long timers that get obnoxious occasionally...

There seem to be very low limits on marking up or down posts...I can seem to leave only 3 or 4 + per day and one - per day..

Tesla Model 3 to Debut End of March, Production Late 2016
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in Tesla
I do wonder when the German big 3 will have full electric versions of their compact and midsize sedans on sale..then there will be a credible threat to Tesla's growth.. -

You have this weird fixation on the 'mainstream'....F the mainstream, Tesla will be going after the entry lux market with the 3, like the 3 series, C-class, ATS, IS, etc...which are all RWD w/ available AWD... -
Yeah, a CUV companion for the Model 3 is inevitable, since the compact luxury CUV market is pretty hot now...I've heard the name 'Model Y' mentioned somewhere..

The Prius Super Bowl ad is hilarious and stupid....'badass Prius'..'heck on wheels'.. https://youtu.be/KxIIi6SVuII <iframe width="671" height="377" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KxIIi6SVuII" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I've long found Tesla interesting as a Silicon Valley technology company, more than a car company. Batteries, control systems, etc are what makes them very interesting.. -
DeLorean Motor Company Back in Production Starting 2016
Robert Hall replied to G. David Felt's topic in Industry News
The engine in the original was a 130hp lump, they can do better than that. I wonder if they will upgrade to modern size tires and wheels..if not for the BTTF movies, the DeLorean would be a forgotten marque like the Bricklin... the stainless steel body was an interesting detail. I always liked the angular styling of these..the styling alone definitely stands out amongst the angry plasticky designs of today..- 8 replies

I think the Model X is in production now..an acquaintance in Silicon Valley said Tesla contacted him last week and told him his preordered car would be delivered in early March.. -
Searched by me, lowest of 6 '04 Vues is $3800 with 134K. Highest is $5995 with 76K. What's the story on the Dodge Nitro? Shares platform with a Jeep, correct? Yes, shares platform w/ the Jeep Liberty. My sister drove a rental one from Ohio to Az a few years ago...I drove it a couple times, decent enough, but the interior materials are very cheap and nasty in that late 2000s way...(Chrysler products in the late Daimler and Cerebus periods seems to have uniformly nasty interiors).

WHAT? The Wine Was Not Merlot? I'd rather have a pinot noir or malbec..

I see nothing about the Model X that would make it a compelling buy over the Porsche Cayenne, for example. For a luxury SUV the Porsche is larger inside, has a better range, etc. And has normal doors, not gimmick doors.
-
They get people to talk about them and write articles about them. The general public likes things like that and Musk knows it. It's a gimmick that no other vehicle has. I don't think the 'general public' will be buying very many $100k novelty CUVs.

Saw a white Mercedes-Benz Metris minivan in window van form, first I'd seen on the road. Also saw a white w/ blue stripes tall roof Ford Transit panel van, with 'GT-350' stripes on the sides, black wheels. Also saw at the bank a black Rolls Royce Phantom w/ the custom front plate that said 'A$$HOLE'...lol. Also saw an old GM Scenecruiser bus in Red Bull livery..which I later discovered has it's own facebook page.. https://www.facebook.com/Red-Bull-Scenicruiser-113160381322/
-
If they had simply done a CUV off the Model S they probably could have had it to market a year after the Model S..but they dicked around for years with those stupid 'falcon doors'...pointless gimmick nonsense that adds nothing to the vehicle.

Just swap the badges, no one will notice..they are all sitting on the same lot at the local Toyota-Scion store... I guess their target Millenial customers all grew up and moved on to Toyotas...

I seem to recall a rumor that they may offer the Colorado-based TrailBlazer here, but there wouldn't be a need for it w/ a new midsize CUV (and it has awkward styling and is dated now).

Solar has been a failure here in AZ, which should be the leader a solar because of the disgusting climate, but it's been opposed every step of the way by the old-power dinosaurs like SRP and APS...corrupt, narrow-sighted companies with a vested interest in preserving the status quo.. -

Ford probably had a top-10 car C4C turn in car w/ the Explorer..lots of those got unloaded (my sister should have C4Ced her old Mercedes before they became undrivable paperweights). -

Or if they didn't hook w/ Mazda, they could go back to their old partner, Mitsubishi...
