  1. Those were cool...I just saw an episode of Mythbusters last week where they had one, were testing the 'Speed' movie scene about the 50mph sharp right turn..
  2. Nice weekend here in Phoenix...sunny mid '80s...soon it will be in the 90s, then 3+ months of triple digit fun. I'm looking forward to next weekend, going to be back in Denver for 3 days...got some stuff to do back there, and a couple friends' 40th birthday cookouts/parties next Saturday to attend.
  3. Please, stop it with the stupid right wing delusionary nonsense.
  4. What about Yaris fans, though? Or Scionities?
  5. True enough..I've had my Jeep almost 9 yrs and almost 100k miles (will probably hit that mark this summer, right around the 9th anniversary). Probably won't trade it, but will likely buy another daily driver within two years and keep the Jeep for winter driving.
  6. No, but then again, I couldn't tolerate any FWD appliance for more than a couple days, let alone 5 years. But the mainstream are content with them.
  7. I've read that in Europe the NG Focus is due for MY 11, and most likely will be going back to the 'Escort' name, which is pretty cool. So we will probably see it in MY 12.
  8. That's the point of having a good resale value..drive it 5 years, trade it in... no 'fix up' involved.
  9. Given Toyota's resale values, reliability, and reputation, driving a Corolla is a very intelligent choice for their buyers. Such it is. Dull car, but a sensible choice for millions. It's not what I would buy, but I certainly understand the choice.
  10. Go to My Controls and select 'Change Display Name'. I've thought about changing mine, bored w/ 'Moltar'. I may change it one of my pseudonyms I use in other online communities.
  11. This makes me think..did Pontiac in Canada have a version of the Corolla or Prizm?
  12. I'd hardly call the Corolla owners I know 'stupid', they tend to be very practical but frugal people... I know people w/ 6 figure incomes that drive Corollas. They just aren't car enthusiasts, that's all. Nothing wrong with that. Some of the sharpest techies I've worked with over the years drive Corollas, Civics, Camrys, and Accords.
  13. I think it's part of his persecution complex schtick.. it gets old.
  14. I wonder if Alpha will ever see the light of day, though? I assume whatever is left of GM will ax it to focus on FWD..
  15. An outrageous # in the US, something like 25k a year...no idea what the worldwide # is. It's huge.
  16. Yes. Illegal immigration is a different problem. Don't know what the answer is to that one. The problem is that the economy is now dependent on having a permanent underclass to do the low pay sh*t jobs, I'm afraid.
  17. Well, AZ is full of them, and many of them are unsanitary, which is how the swine flu has spread.
  18. Yes, just purely functional A-B transport modules. No character or personality at all. But, that's what it seems the public prefers today...
  19. I would think that an Epsy Dos based FWD vanilla sedan is much more likely..wasn't Alpha going to be a compact car platform?? I assume Alpha will be cancelled sooner or later anyway.
  20. Haven't ridden in one of the newer ones. I have a friend w/ a '93 and a couple others w/ 2000 vintage or so. Best memory was going out to lunch, 4 people in an '00, and myself and another guy that were riding in the back having to get out so the car would clear a parking lot speed bump.. One guy I worked w/ for years drove a '99 Corolla, but he recently stepped up to an ES350.
  21. Yeah, I was thinking Greyhound also...my sister used them several times a few years ago to ship some furniture pieces. Probably cheaper than truck freight shipping. I don't know what the size/weight limits are.
  22. Could always send GM a tweet....GM has several feeds on Twitter. I haven't 'written' a 'letter' to anyone in probably a decade. I'm afraid too many years of using computers and email have reduced my handwriting to an unreadable scrawl..
  23. Don't see them out here either...I've pretty much only seen them at car shows over the last 15 years..they seem to be pretty scarce out and about anywhere. I think I prefer the '71-72 shape over the '69-72 because of the sculpturing..love the rear end and the front (though 4 lights would have been nicer than 2).
  24. My favorite GPs were the '69-72s...the big ones from '62-68 were pretty special also. The FWD models are best forgotten.
  25. That's my assumption, which is exactly how GM was from '97-'07 (Cadillac had the only RWD sedan(s) those years). GM will just have fewer FWD generics in the future than they have now. It's sad to lose Pontiac--the Solstice and G8 were two on the short list of memorable cars GM has today.
