3100 seems pretty light..I thought the Corvette was more like 3500lbs.

That sounds like marketing speak. Nothing substantive. Pontiac's glory days have been gone for a long time, sadly, with just a few sparks of the old image here and there like the GTO, G8, and Solstice.

Judging the nature of Chevrolet based on any 20 year period (especially the last 20) is like judging the US by the 1980s. The path cannot stay the same now that so many other brands are gone.] Not necessarily...that's not a random 20 years, that's the last 20 years. And Ford's line is all FWD except for the Mustang, and Toyota is all FWD, so I wouldn't expect Chevy to change from that path. Like it or not, sales certainly indicate the mainstream prefers dull FWD 4drs. That's reality. I know many people on here can't face reality, but daydreaming will only go so far. I'd love to see the G8 transform into an Impala, and Chevy also have a small Alpha based RWD model with 3 bodystyles, but realistically, I can't see any of that happening.

I'm trying to be realistic and think of a way the Corvette can survive...you can bet GM's bean counters are thinking of ways to cut the costs and make it smaller and more efficient. The future isn't going to be the past.

Chevy is just staying true to the path they've been on for over 20 years (excluding the Caprice)---all FWD mainstream models, with 1-2 RWD performance models (Camaro, Corvette).

Well, both are probably too heavy. The Kappa platform needs more development to be world class, no doubt. I'm thinking about a 2800lb sports car. Such a car doesn't need 400 or 600hp to be entertaining.

Auggghhhh...didn't think of it that way. Maybe some of his off-the-wall insane ideas were more prescient than we thought.. Who knows, maybe GM will base the C7 off the Kappa platform...at least it would still be RWD but lighter...

Never say never...these are interesting times...who knows what will happen to the Vette.

That's surprising...I would think they would want to keep them to keep the volume up at BG. Without Pontiac, BG dealers will have only 2 cars, a couple truck lines, 3 CUVs and a couple SUVs.

Those would require money to develop...in the short term, they will probably just rebadge the G3, G5, G6 and Vibe as Buicks. G3- Skyhawk, G5-Skylark (or use the Astra as the basis), and G6-Regal.

Could be a fun car if it weighed a bit less w/ the 3.6 DI engine...

Ya..I was just listening to a podcast about the problem of counterfeit cell phones in China, including 'iClones'..i.e. iPhone rip offs. Since many of these phones (legit versions) are mfgrd in China, it's pretty easy for the mfgrs there to clone them quite cheaply.

Cool..at one time, I had 5 machines on my home network, all with '60s GM names ending in 'A'.... Impala, Catalina, Ventura, Invicta, Electra.

Of course, I wonder if 90% of the posts are from a couple dozen or so regular posters... now the % of clicks on individual topics by those posters is another stat..
