"Controversial question" - which gender-atypical occupation could you/would you do?
I was joking about the armed robber, but when these guys are on the news, they always seem to be men. I wonder what they put down as 'occupation' on their 1040s... Not sure if it's an occupation, per se, more of a hobby or supplimentary income thing, like selling stuff on ebay. I would assume most armed robbers have a normal job, and do crime occasionally for supplimentary income.

Pontiac Should Have Had Genesis Coupe
People keep missing the point. I've already said it twice. The Genesis is just that latest in the 'sport compact ' market, which had largely died out. They had 4 cylinders and V6s. Anyone remember the Celica or 240SX? Or the Prelude or for that matter, Hyundai's own Tiberon? Different market niche than the Camaro. GM and Ford have tried this market in the past, i.e. with the RWD Monza and Capri in the '70s, to the Probe and Beretta in the '80s-90s.

VW and Porsche to merge
Very little overlap, though, and many of the brands are premium or ultra premium niche brands.

Impala SS Dead, Models Lose some Uniqueness.
They can save money also by eliminating the chrome Impala badges. Just have the gold bowtie.

Top Gear Trivia
I'm hooked... I've long been a fan of the magazine, and since I first got BBCAmerica on cable a few years ago, I've become hooked on the show, tiVoing every episode..some I've watched several times.

Joe has it for the Poncho's
Funny article. The Onion is great... I've long liked their articles, from their 'Area Man...' and 'Local Man..' stories, to their columnists, to their fake man-on-the-street comments. One of my favorite 'columnists' was Herbert Kornfeld, with his tales of his hardcore life in Accounts Recievable at Midstate Office Supply. I also like the Onion News Network videos with Doyle Redland.

VW and Porsche to merge
You aren't alone, I've known people that thought they were also. Both companies have a related origin in Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, and both companies have had close ties over the years, incl the occasional shared platform (like the Touraeg and Cayenne), and in Europe, the 914 was badged as a VW-Porsche. I remember US market advertising in the '70s for Porsche + Audi, they must have had some joint advertising or US operations then. 10 brands, eh? Seat, Skoda, VW, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, and truck makers Scania and MAN (which are partially owned by VW Group, I believe).

"Controversial question" - which gender-atypical occupation could you/would you do?
A friend of mine's wife was a Victoria's Secret salesperson when they met a few years ago. She's in telecom business sales now.

"Controversial question" - which gender-atypical occupation could you/would you do?
Could be...but there are certainly occupations, though, even today, that are predominantly male (construction worker, armed robber, computer programmer /software engineer (there are certainly women, but it's a tiny percentage), or predominantly female...

Impala SS Dead, Models Lose some Uniqueness.
They will probably just change the decals to say 'Chevrolet', since the COT turd in NASCAR doesn't resemble anything real.

Top Gear Trivia
I believe the first one is D, Justin Hawkins and the second is D, Michael Gambon (who was with Helen Mirren in the movie 'The Thief, The Cook, His Wife, and Her Lover'.

Does it still count as "Tech"...
Ah, cupholders.. don't know how I lived w/ out them in my older cars. My '80s Escort, Mustangs, Bronco II, never had them..I always had lame plastic clip on cupholders that stuck on door around the base of the window. My sister's Mercedes doesn't have 'em either...when I drive one of those cars and go to Starbucks I have to request a cup tray or drive home holding a cup in my hand, driving w/ one hand. I'm amazed it took so long for cupholders to become 'mandatory' in cars.

Consumer Reports Drives Camaro, Mustang, Challenger
Odd to see CR test these cars...I thought Corollas, Priuses, Civics, and other appliances were more to their taste.

Pontiac Should Have Had Genesis Coupe
Yes, the GTO was in a different market... there should be room for both largish RWD V8 hefty 'musclecar' style coupes and smaller, RWD 4 cyl/ V6 sports coupes---different markets, different buyers. As I said before, the Genesis is an entry in a market niche Japan, Inc quit a while back..it's like the RWD Celica and 240SX of the past. Or the Prelude or Integra.

2009 Full-Size Pickup Truck Comparison Test
I like the Dodge..have seen a couple in person. I think it has the best exterior, but I like the Chevy's interior, esp. the Tahoe-like dash. I'm not a truck fan, but a loaded crew cab like one of these is exactly how I'd want one, could be used as a car and to tow stuff and haul stuff.

Motor Trend Compares Camaro and Genesis 3.8
Keep in mind it is a GM forum...obviously, many here are going to be biased towards GM. That said, it would be nice to see GM have a compact, light RWD sports coupe like the Genesis, that's what could have been had GM kept Pontiac and Alpha survived.

2009 Full-Size Pickup Truck Comparison Test
This seems to be a pretty common way people equip their trucks, though. I'd say the majority of the full size pickups I see in the Denver and Phoenix suburbs tend to be loaded, high trim level 4drs.... I hardly ever see standard cabs anymore except for white commercial-use work trucks.

One side effect of the new site seems to be that email notifications of new posts in subscribed topics doesn't work. I haven't received any notification emails since the last downtime..

"Controversial question" - which gender-atypical occupation could you/would you do?
I'll admit to being a slacker w/ housekeeping...which is why I have a yard service, pool service, and maid service (did when I was living in my condo also). Libraries and books have long fascinated me, so a librarian--in a university research library --would be an interesting alternative reality career path for me. Don't laugh, another one that is appealing to me would be to be a dog groomer.

Buick to Get the Next Generation Astra in 2011
Yes, a Buick 'Jetta' could do quite well, with Buick styling cues. The Jetta is a nice little package..drove a rental one last year, was pretty loaded. Quite comfortable inside, drove smoothly.

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
I was going to go to happy hour yesterday afternoon at a popular Mexican place near work, but it was packed..too crowded, didn't want to wait, so I went down the road to an excellent Cuban place instead. Had some tapas-- empanadas, fried plantains, a mojito, some flan, and a Cuban expresso. Tasty.
