Fuel-Efficient Vehicles Propel General Motors April U.S. Sales Increase of 27 Percent Chevrolet Cruze posts best month since launch with 25,160 total sales GMC Terrain, Chevrolet Equinox set April sales records Retail sales rose 25 percent for April; up 35 percent year to date Incentives decline more than 10 percent while retail sales rise 4 percent from March DETROIT – General Motors dealers in the United States reported 232,538 total sales in April, a 27-percent increase versus April a year ago. Solid gains by GM's lineup of fuel-efficient passenger cars and crossovers powered the gains, led by the best sales month for the Chevrolet Cruze and record sales for the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain compact crossovers. Retail sales, those to individual customers, rose 25 percent versus last April with cars and crossovers up 49 percent and 28 percent, respectively. Retail sales for the Cruze were 180 percent higher than the Chevrolet Cobalt it replaced. The Equinox and Terrain also posted retail sales records, up 53 and 61 percent respectively. With gasoline averaging almost $4 per gallon, consumers are beginning to trade in larger vehicles for smaller, more fuel efficient ones. "Recently, rising fuel prices have led many to re-think their vehicle choice," said Don Johnson, vice president, U.S. Sales Operations. "Because of the investments we've made in fuel-efficiency and global product architectures, the company is well positioned to meet these needs." During the first quarter of 2011, the company's retail share of the small, compact and compact crossover segments improved by an estimated 3.4 full share points, compared to the first quarter of 2010. Much of this improvement is due to improved availability of the popular Equinox and Terrain and the launch of the all-new Cruze. Compared to March, retail sales rose 4 percent though incentive spending decreased more than 10 percent, Johnson said. April deliveries to commercial accounts rose 21 percent – the 13th consecutive month of commercial sales gains. GM's Newest Vehicles Retail Sales Soar 76 Percent in April Combined retail sales for vehicles launched since June 2009 – Chevrolet Equinox, Silverado HD, Cruze, Camaro Convertible and Volt; Buick LaCrosse and Regal; GMC Sierra HD and Terrain; and Cadillac SRX, CTS Wagon and CTS Coupe – jumped 76 percent during April and are up 76 percent for the year through April. Passenger Cars Total sales of GM passenger cars improved 50 percent during April, led by the sale of 25,160 Cruzes and 24,701 Chevrolet Malibus. Retail sales of GM passenger cars climbed 49 percent for the month. The Cruze and Chevrolet Camaro Convertible recorded their highest retail sales since launch. For the year-to-date, retail sales of GM's passenger cars were up 49 percent, also led by the Cruze, up 195 percent for the year compared to the Chevrolet Cobalt. Crossovers The Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac brands each set April total and retail sales records for crossover sales, driven by a 49-percent increase in combined retail sales by the Equinox, Terrain and SRX. The three also set individual April records for retail sales. For the year-to-date, retail sales of GM's industry-leading crossovers were up 29 percent. Pickups Total combined sales of Chevrolet Silverado and Avalanche, and GMC Sierra increased 2 percent; with retail sales down 2 percent versus a year ago. For the year-to-date, retail sales for GM's full-size pickups are up 26 percent, while total sales of 172,070 units represent a 22-percent increase. Month-end dealer inventory in the United States stood at about 577,000 units, up about 3,000 units compared to March and about 149,000 higher than April 2010. Brand Key Facts: Chevrolet: Chevrolet dealers delivered 169,794 total vehicles in April, a 25-percent increase versus last year. Retail sales for Chevrolet were up 25 percent. The Never Ending Story: More Rumors With The Cadillac Flagships

The Taxi of Tomorrow is: The Nissan NV200 Drew Dowdell - Chief Editor - CheersandGears.com May 3, 2011 In a move that is certain to be controversial, the Taxi and Limousine Commission of New York has selected the Nissan NV200 to replace the city's aging Ford Crown Victoria fleet. Two of the other finalists where the Ford Transit Connect and an entry by the Turkish car maker Karsan who promised to build it's entry in Brooklyn. Winning the contract gives Nissan the exclusive rights to sell cabs in the city for 10 years. Among the controversies is the fact that the NV200 is not handicap accessible like the Karsan design and unlike the Ford Transit Connect which is manufactured in Turkey, the manufacturer is not a domestic corporation. Currently, only 240 of the over 13,000 city cabs are handicapped accessible. Proposed interior of the Nissan NV200

Hmmm... While some EVs may be impressive in one fashion or another (Volt/Tesla), none hit the sweet spot for me as cars. The Tesla costs too much, has so-so styling, and little everyday usefulness. The Volt, like any "4-door family hatchback", holds no interest for me beyond its curiosity factor. I might admire the tech, but I don't love the cars. I am all for those who do love them having them available, however. Oh I wasn't implying the cars themselves would be of any interest to you... but if the El Camino were released with only the Voltec powertrain (appropriately sized of course) I could see you still waiting in line for one and actually coming to like it.

I really hadn't thought about that before. Ford had an almost Sloan like hierarchy there. Ford - Chevy Mercury - Oldsmobile Mazda - Saturn (the domestically owned car company that made people think they were driving foreign) Lincoln - Buick (big, floaty, old) Volvo - Saab (for the quirks of course) Land Rover - Hummer (not a direct comparison, but premium SUVs none the less) Jaguar - Cadillac (meant to be the king of the hill)

My problem with putting the car in the air is that I have a gravel driveway and the jack stands sink in to it. I'm still toying with the idea. I could buy some plywood and put the jack stands on that. I already know I need an alignment, so that will need to be done regardless.

Small change to the Politics section

If it was me that unpinned your thread, it wasn't out of spite. I just went through and unpinned anything that didn't have activity in the past 12 months. I don't recall unpinning that one specifically. I do my best not to be biased for or against people. There are some users here that really get on my nerves, but I don't limit their posting unless they get to trolling. Ninety Eight stopped posting because he only wanted to post the news from other sites. His was a special case in that I wanted him to post his own thoughts and not just a copy/paste from another website. There are technical reasons behind needing that to stop. He chose to leave rather than make his own posts. This site lives on posts. The more people post, the more other people will post, and it becomes a huge happy snowball. -

Small change to the Politics section
Drew Dowdell replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Site News and Feedback
I have removed the posting requirement for the politics section due to popular demand. Those of you who can post in politics, please remember that this site survives on posts in the automotive forums, the politics section is not indexed by Google nor is it accessible by the general public... thus does nothing to draw more interest into the site. The reason I put the limitation in, in the first place was because certain members were coming here to only post in politics.I have no problem with people posting there... just gotta pay the bills first. -

The Never Ending Story: More Rumors With The Cadillac Flagships
Drew Dowdell replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
They do when it's the Mercedes S-class. Problem is Cadillac needs credibility, which could be gained with a successful flagship, however, the flagship probably won't sell because of their brand image. They are sort of in a lose-lose. The S-class pays the bills by being a Taxi, Rental car fleet, and business airport car fleet whore..... the same way the Towncar does. It pays the bills, and it is a better status symbol than any car BMW, Audi, Jaguar, Lexus or Cadillac has. All those brands wish they had the S-class, it's image, it's history, and it's revenue. as long as I can get mine with a meter and a card swipe. -

The MKS Ecoboost is a validly fast car, but it is too huge and cumbersome to be a true sports performer. I was able to scare Albert with it's acceleration.

Not of any of their current vehicles, no. If they wanted to make me a performance version of the Mark VIII or LS, then yeah I'd consider it.

'69 Buick Electra 225 - Cop Spec at a car cruise. The car was as stripped down as you could get an Electra. AM radio, no tilt wheel, bench seats with no arm-rest, no A/C, but it had an A-pillar spot light and red flashing lights behind the grill. It was too dark to take pics, but if I see it at the cruise again, I'll snap some.
