  1. The lightest one weighs as much as a Sonata, the heaviest one is V6 Malibu territory.
  2. Well, if Cadillac wanted to match BMW in the crossover market, they should have dropped the 3.0 and kept the 2.8t. Sales for them would be right in line with the X3 then.
  3. It's the clock-clock-clock from the Direct Injection system. At higher speed it becomes a Gggggrrrrrr. I am not sure if it's the injectors themselves or the high pressure fuel rails and accumulators vibrating from the closure pulses from the injectors. Eitherway it is decidedly coarse... the 3.6 DI V6 I drove in a rented Camaro was noiser, coarser and less refined than the 2.4 liter 4-potter in the Malibu -- significantly so. yet in the Enclave, Acadia, and CTS, it's smooth... so clearly GM knows how to quell the sound.
  4. For parity with the Camry and Accord, the Malibu needs to lose 250~300 lbs. Help me out understanding this one: Camry 4c/6a - 3307 Accord 4c/6a - 3395 Malibu 4c/6a - 3415
  5. SRX is sized like an X5 or ML only in exterior. In interior space, it is clearly up against the X3 and GLK. Your trouble is you realize when you are rhetorically trapped and you then change the target of "what Cadillac must do to win the market" First it was sales.. they have to outsell Mercedes in each market they compete in. When Cadillac actually does that, you change the target.. now by outselling Mercedes and BMW and Audi combined... they are suddenly "lowest common denominator". On top of that, Cadillac also has to be superior in the eye of mythical "people"... those people who are soooo in the know, but for some reason never actually purchase the damned cars. The X3 sold 6,000 units in the U.S. last year at roughly similar transaction prices to the SRX. I think Cadillac would happily piss off those "people" you speak of if that's the measure of success you want them to stand up to. Really... what is the excuse of the X3. How is 6,000 units in sales ANYTHING for Cadillac to look up to?
  6. Exactly, Cadillac has chosen to compete with Lincoln and the bottom of the Lexus lineup, and wishes not to compete with the big league models. Sad. For all the great stuff the United States has engineered, we can't build a car that competes in the big leagues. And we had Duesenberg and Pierce Arrow, Cadillacs of the 1920s and 30s. We (and Rolls-Royce) were the big leagues long ago, it would be nice to see that once again. You are SOOOO right. There is no way that a 300 HP SRX will EVER compete with a BMW X3-M..... I mean... if BMW actually bothered to produce one.... but really... it couldn't even compete with the GLK - AMG 630..... if Mercedes would just get off their butts and build it. Unfortunately, I hear the Audi SQ5 has been shelved. The SRX most certainly can compete with the RWD based models. It kicked the X3's and GLK's and Q5's combined asses all last year. Those three combined sold 50,539 compared to the SRX's 51,094. In fact, assuming Cadillac's claim of only a 10% take rate of the 2.8T SRX is correct, the turbo SRX alone came within 900 units of outselling the X3 for all of 2010. The SRX Turbo posted some pretty high transaction prices as well, you couldn't get one until you were ready to step up to a $49k base price... so you can't even use transaction prices as a point of escape here.
  7. In fact, that looks like the identical setup to the Regal for the center console
  8. Wow @ the interior!
  9. For those of you not on Facebook, you can watch the 2013 Malibu reveal here. 8:30pm eastern time

  11. The current Malibu is still one of the most handsome mid-size family cars out there. Keeping the new one familiar to that is a good thing. GM could have gotten away with an interior MCE and a slight freshening on the outside, but we're getting a fully redesigned car instead.
  12. Happy B-day Walt
  13. I was hoping it'd be the updated ECOTECs... make a slightly bigger splash than saying, "The 2013 Malibu will be powered by the 182hp DI 2.4L". I rather see something like, "The 2013 Malibu is said to be powered by GM's new 2.5L DI Ecotec putting out 200hp, and updated turbocharged 2.0L found in the Regal and Verano, putting out 240hp/270lb-ft," or something like that. That's what they are saying over at GMI. It will have the new 2.5 and the reworked 2.0T. I haven't heard what the HP numbers are, but I guess we'll find out on Monday. HP on the 2.0T will be the same figures as the Verano.
  14. That's a good lot of car for that monthly payment. The gas savings alone should offset a lot of it.
  15. Smaller and lighter batteries do have the side effect of lasting longer because there is less mass to haul around.
  16. I could see faulty wiring for the plug in causing the problem, but unlikely the car itself. I couldn't have a Volt at my house without seriously upgrading my electrical service if I wanted the 4 hour charger. I'm still on 60 amp fuses.
  17. Yes. Though I expect the turbo will be the same one from the Verano.
  18. There are scheduled engine improvements to the 4-cylinders across all brands that we will hear about more later this year.
  19. they could have dropped the capacitive touch buttons for one.
  20. Google is evil
