  3. Rüsselheim, at least, is AFAIK a USD 600 million dollar modern (close to new) plant. Zaragoza, spain is apparently regarded as being quite cost-competitive. The others, IDK anything about their flexibility or cost-effectiveness. But the key for GME (and not Adam Opel AG - GM has to start managing Adam Opel AG as part of GME one and for all) is the overcapacity, the costs associated with that overcapacity, and perhaps GM's cost/management accounting system that isn't producing good decision-making data/information.
  4. Buick's not global (US; China; Israel, as far as I remember) and only outlived Pontiac because China likes the Buick badge. Replacing Opel with Buick would not net any sales gain (one also has to consider the Engineering Center in Rüselheim, as it is a damn good one). Also, calling Cadillac global is quite a stretch: Cadillac is virtually inexistant outside of the US and Canada, and Cadillac's sales in Europe are (to be kind to GM) pathetic for a brand with the kind of history/heritage Cadillac has. The industrial capacity issue is the issue, but I really don't understand why GM is so bad at managing that part of the business in Europe; the plants should be (99% sure they are) flexible enough to build a Cruze together with an Astra or an Aveo/Sonic together with a Corsa. If VW can manage this with its brand portfolio, why can't GM?

  9. Good to see you posting here! So it would be Alpha for models up to CTS/Commodore size; and Omega (heavily reworked LWB Zeta, if I read your words correctly) for the larger models: Cadillac LTS, Buick Park Avenue (China), and Holden/Chevrolet Caprice?

  13. Agreed. As for the LaCrosse, we'll see (I think) it being replaced by a much more luxurious car than the current one as it will have to be placed above the Impala and take the retail space of the XTS (as the LTS comes online), while the Regal/Insignia will be replaced by an Alpha sedan.

  17. Me too; and it's not only the US but most of the Western World that has become like that. I think the leadership/elite has become so weak in quality that fear and conformity is the only social control tools they know how to use.
  18. From what I have read so far, where this car fails is in the way it was lauched. Pretty much like the launch of the RWD/AWD SRX a few years back, it seems GM didn't spend too much time thiking of lauching it head-on on where the sales are and instead chose to give priority to the variant that should have been lauched last (in this case the e-Assist model; in the previous-gen SRX case the USD 50K V8 models)...

    Wonder what the C8 will bring. On the techincal side there is a lot that can be open for debate and possibly change. On the looks side a lot can change too, but I am a little torn on the issue of if it is time to look past the Corvette's shape (that to me at least still evoques the 1968 car somehow)... I mean, the Porsche 911 styling has not changed that much and the car still is a success, so why mess with a Corvette shape that has been successful? As for the animation, that redering looks too Ferrari-esque... I drool over Ferraris pretty much the same as any other performance car enthusiast, but I wouldn't want the Corvette to be a Ferrari styling clone
