I think the turbo will remain at 2.0L (or 2.2L max), but I too await the rest of the story from GM.

That's the kind of balance they need to aim for. I'm curious to see how this goes over the long run.

That concept they showed a few months ago had me hoping for good looks to go with the excellent Subaru engineering, but unfortunately it did not materialize...

Well, well... It actually looks pretty nice and sporty! Too bad GM (apparently) isn't willing to resurrect the idea of a small and relatively affordable RWD roadster/coupe...

Start/stop. That's a way although (I read) slightly problematic with auto transmissions. There are two things I've never gotten used to while experiencing them... start/stop (feels like you're stalling when you approach a red light), and a CVT (feels like you're going to blow the engine when you give it any gas). I've driven a BMW 120d with start-stop and for the first 4 or 5 traffic lights I swithced it off. But after that I switched bzck on and actually got used to it fairly quick. It's more a matter of getting used to that interruption, I guess, as the instinct is to think "ooops, this thing's gone dead". And it does provide for some real fuel savings around town

In Mercedes defense, the only thing that will translate to production will the the outside general shape, so no real problem if there's something not so tasteful. Concept cars don't have to be tasteful, they just need to be over the top to attract attention and this one does.

Clearly a car produced and sold on the basis of marginal costing. With the tooling and engineering long paid for, production costs should be nothing more than the materials and labor costs. Maybe this should be the fleet-special Chevrolet Classic with a proper Impala offered for retail buyers, even though that might deprive fleet car users from sampling GM's latest offerings.

0.5" shorter? Does that mean it's around 4900mm long? EDIT - 4859mm, so not as long as the Insignia wagon; not that different from the Insignia/Regal. Will blend well in Europe, size wise.

It's not nitpicking; what you're writing makes perfect sense. There could be some overlap, of course, but Cadillac (1st) and Buick (2nd) should be the higher standard/optional content brands. Having a Chevrolet other than the Corvette (and to some extent a couple of versions of the Camaro) biting at Buick and Cadillac would not be a good idea.

Yeah, I think that was pretty much Paolino's point: you'd have to decontent and sell it on the basis of offering interior/trunk space and acceptable RWD punch.
