  2. If the Lineup is the new Astra, Regal (Insignia) and LaCrosse, I see them doing quite well both in the US and in China. And Astra/Regal is basically the Chinese lineup's volume: they get Park Avenue, you guys get the LaCrosse, both as high-end models. Savings come from not spending billions in different exteriors and interiors, not diluting advertising dollars by having to spend them on 7 or 8 brands. As for building, maybe Magna's idea of building Opels in Canada does the trick?

  4. Interesting... The Jetta does not have a start-stop system, IIRC. That would make for part of that difference in city driving mileage. Diesel and gas relative prices play an important role too as here in Europe, traditionally, diesel is taxed less making it cheaper than gas... maybe the economics of this are quite different in Europe and the US. Are you sure US Government money is not being used to fund it? I wouldn't be that sure regarding the funding needs of the Volt program not being included in GM's funding needs under the restructuring program submitted to the Government and to the Bankruptcy Court.
  5. Maybe that limitation goes away with the bankruptcy process?
  6. I think that's the idea behind keeping Buick and ditching Pontiac.
  7. Here's a related issue for you all to debate, as you know the US market... are the Volt, Prius, Insight, etc., the 'penis extenders' for the green crowd? I mean... hybrids add weight and complexity for benefits thay most likely could come from using modern turbodiesels with particle filters... so the hybrid fashion has to be a mix of perception regarding diesels and that 'penis extender' effect.

  9. In 1958 GM had a dominant and unchallenged position in the US market and because of that it had tons of cash. In the time frame of the Kappa development and rollout GM had lost half its market share and was in very precarious financial position. Hance why it took 3 years to roll out a Solstice targa.
  10. Sending the current Impala to Avis&Co wouldn't be a bad idea, as long as it meant Buick would not sell CX-trim levels anymore.

Wow, an Isetta in US roads?
  12. Thx for posting those. Looks like a very nice car, but I'd prefer Buick not to offer CX models. In fact, I'd offer only one loaded trim level, with very few options.
  13. Penske bought no engineering assets, so Saturn will have to source vehicles from OEMs. I'd say preferably from OEMs that are not present in the US right now.
  14. Hmmm... I wonder if that will be the new Megane Sedan... it's rumoured to get a different name when moving to the new Megane platform... It'd be interesting for 2 or 3 Samsungs models to find their way to the US via Saturn.

  17. Aha, so that's why the South lost the American Civil War... Response to thread: uncomfortable

  19. Buick will get more advertising dollars and the new Astra is... well... new, unlike the Astra you got in the US which was introduced in a very advanced stage of its lifecycle.
  20. In an ideal world that car would have been the G6... That new Hyundai coupe is, in terms of its concept/philosophy, pretty close to what a RWD G6 could have been.
