Is the old 2.0L L4 FI engine reliable???
american_revolution_2005 replied to american_revolution_2005's topic in The Lounge
I actually know a mechanic who could do it. My friend's dad has his own shop at his house and he was replacing the floorboards in my friend's Suzuki Sidekick. He is apparently an expert at it because he used to built sheetmetal for aircraft. He said it wouldn't be much and he would be glad to help me out. -
Is the old 2.0L L4 FI engine reliable???
american_revolution_2005 replied to american_revolution_2005's topic in The Lounge
My biggest concern are the floorboards. They haven't rotted through yet but they are getting worse than they should be. I just want to know if I can replace those or fix it beforehand. Most older cars seem to have head gasket problems anyways. That can be replaced. -
I keep on admiring a 91 Sunbird LE sedan at a used car dealer in my town. It was a trade-in one owner car and it has only 128kms on it. It has been sitting there for about 6 months so the price has been lowered. They send I could have it for $200. I did the free history report on it and it turned up 0 records. It was owned by a little old lady lol. The paint is rough but the rust isn't bad. THe powertrain is in excellent condition. The car has a turn off though. The floor boards are getting soft and rotting. Can this be prevented before they open or can new floorboards be put in? The kms are legitimate as the car has a 6 digit odometer unlike the Aries. Nothing mechanical is too bad. The condition of the body isn't that great. Just paint though. How reliable is the 2.0L LF FI engine from GM. It was apparently in all of the older Cavaliers and the Cimarron. Is the 2.2L a much better engine or are they alike? I just want to know long-term reliability before I start looking deeply into it. For you guys down south, 128,000 kms is about 79,536 miles. Please tell me the major problems with this engine or with the entire car. Thanks.

Need a History Report and quick!!!!
american_revolution_2005 replied to american_revolution_2005's topic in The Lounge
I dont trust the guy and what he said about it. However, I have considered more cars. My Chrysler dealer has a 98 Neon that came in on trade-in with under 200,000kms. He said it would be around $1000 or under. I also found 3 1993-95 Mercury Sables for $500. They looked to be in excellent condition. -

This one isn't that bad with rust. It's $200!!!!! You can't go wrong with that. Parts are pretty cheap for it. -
I need a history report on a 1988 Dodge Aries LE. It is for sale at my local Toyota dealer for $200. The salesman who I know pretty well said it was driven by an old lady who died and his buddy bought it. It currently has 41,000 kms according to him but I dont think that is right. It only has a 5 digit odometer so that is what it reads. It does run really nice but it needs new rear struts and the rust needs to be bondoed up. The car what rust proofed except for behind the drivers side passenger door and behind the rear wheels. If someone could PM me if they end up with one. I would really appreciate it. The VIN is 1B3BD46D8JC286776. Thanks. I really appreciate it. This would be my first car so I need to find out.

Pontiac Fiero $800
american_revolution_2005 replied to american_revolution_2005's topic in The Lounge
I am going to recommend it to my auto teacher. We need another project car soon. He would want to put a 3800 or something in it. -
I was wondering if I should go ahead into looking at a 1986 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 that is for sale in Orangeville. I spotted it on Craigslist. The car is an 86 w/ 80,000 kms. It needs a front bumper, brake work, and a new battery. What do you guys think? Are these cars potential problems. I have heard of many breaking down frequently. Would this be worth it ot just be a money pit? I dont think I would want to drive this in the winter so that is something that would turn me away. What do you think?

I have seen those before. I have a vintage GM postcard with that car on it.

Nice cars. Why didn't you include the Blazer though. Its a 94 and looks sweet even it that pic. I am going to try to find me one with not too much rust. My dad doesn't want me to get one but I do. my uncle had a 93 about 3 or 4 years ago. It was a nice green one. -
Oldest person you know of to buy a new car
american_revolution_2005 replied to I hope GMRULES again's topic in The Lounge
My neighbour, 85 or 86. Always driven Full-size Chryslers. Got rid of his LHS and he got an 05 300 Limited. They are always black too. I do know of an 82 yr.old woman who bought an 06 Mustang GT. She has always driven the generation of Mustang when it first comes out. She didn't however buy the Mustang II until the King Cobra came out. She had a Torino like the Starsky & Hutch one. She bought the special edition Starsky & Hutch on when it came out and then went to the King Cobra. She is my grandma's friend and has pictures of every car she has owned. -
Haha. Nice burnout, bad rims. Malibu's Most Wanted lol. That Chain Hang Low vid by Jibbs haha, is great. Mainly because you get to see a 300lb lady do the spilts. His CD is also called Jibbs:Featuring Jibbs. (I wonder how long it took to figure that title out)

BIRTH ORDER - Where do you fall in?
american_revolution_2005 replied to trinacriabob's topic in The Lounge
Oldest of two. Sister two years younger, 14. I do not get along with her at all and pretty much because she is a stubborn, little brat who thinks she can get what she wants if she stomps and yells and screams like a little child in Toys R Us. -

I wanted to go for the 6 anyways. Maybe if I get enough money I could get a cheaper one with a 4 and find a 6 to put in it.

Charger4U I am older than you lol. I am turning 16 lol. -
London is south down the 401. On my way to Detroit though. I go through it every time. Nobody knows where Orangeville is anyways.
-
I am not that close to London. It is about 2 hours. I looked on that and that 96 2-door was nice and in Cambridge, I go to the Tri-city area often. The price however, too expensive. There is a 99 Grand Am sedan for sale in my area for the same price.
-
I am going to be starting a job soon and I have some money saved up so I may try to find a good Grand Am coupe for sale. I absolutely have loved Grand Ams, any generation and I have always wanted one as a first car. Pontiacs are great and I think I may rather get a Grand Am. Sporty looks, fair amount of power. I think I might try to find a 90s Grand Am coupe. I see plenty around but no body seems to be getting rid of any. They are beautiful cars nonetheless. I am scrapping all ideas except for a Grand Am, possibly a Sunfire, and some 3800 V6 vehicles. My dad has the idea of me getting a car with absolutely no rust. Up here with all the salty roads, there is no such thing as not having rust. I told him to look under his Expedition but he refused to. That thing has rust building up pretty fast LOL. Any certain years I should look out for or problems?

What is the difference between 365 condoms and a Goodyear Tire?] One is a Goodyear and one is a great year. LOL. Sorry I just got a huge kick out of that and it has stayed with me all day.

BV are you that desperate to get rid of the Grand Am? LOL. My question is why. Those Grand Am's are beautiful especially the coupes.
