I need a storage garage in SE PA...hmm...for...
caddycruiser replied to caddycruiser's topic in The Lounge
Heehee, I thought about ordering one of those from Oz (where it's a normal GM/Holden accessory part ) just for $h!s & giggles. Heh. Holden Nudge Bar. -
Exactly Roger The car is back to being a bear clawing tank today, because now it's snow and not thin solid packed ice. 12" in the driveway, pushed most of it off the car, hopped in and vroom forward through the unshoveled 12" without as much as a slip, so the parking spaces could be cleared out. Something that darn Camaro on 20" summer Pirelli's certainly couldn't say for itself
-
Oh jeez. Thankfully momma only visually remembered Camaro's from the 60's & 70's and then the new '10 when she wanted one. The hee-haw in between, she barely even recognizes, oddly. Funny stuff though...cringe funny...but funny...
-
Heehee I love how yesterday it was "1-3 inches", they put the first white dust salt crap down on Wednesday to prepare, and waking up today there's now 12"+. Being Delaware, everything is shut down. Probably good, I can't go out & bumper cars around in the poor G8. At least it humbled me & my "PA snow skills"...sorta.

That was part of the plan before, but again now I'd like to slow the mileage on the G8, use it for less constant puttering around & more fun/cruising/etc. To the Solstice end, RWD, top comes off or down, 2 seater, and more efficient 4-cyl...the G8 is a limo...I don't need another boat but something in between could be nice too. Had a dream last night about the all black Solstice coupe, cruising with the top off, treating it mostly like my G8 but handling a chunk of my yearly miles...then in future years have an LS series GM V8 dropped into it. Or not. That rare bird collector factor means a lot too. It's perfect for the "ooooohhh" factor I demand, but can't check reality boxes off like an SUV would...IDK. Gotta hit up some Ford dealers & check out some CPO things elsewhere too, hmmm... -

I could rock that. Most '09 Saabs left are going for at least $10k under MSRP, so it makes for a lot of possibilities in the $20k's. Somewhat more unique...but not hugely so... -

I'll give it up, you're good. And YES Started with always wanting one, the year changing, the last of the last Pontiacs being left, and me looking around to see what was left. White loaded roadster at my Jersey G8 dealer they've had forever & at a killer price to me, and then a mixture of others I wanted to look at & drive. Need to compare the base vs. GXP for power, and real world space/roof deal with roadster vs. coupe. Still debating a loaded white "Pure" base convertible and a loaded black "Mysterious" base coupe...either one just drives me...I'd go negative on solving my yearly transportation deal, but look at them. The G8 would love a buddy like that...well, at least mostly as much as it would have what the original car this thread started for was There's so many GREAT new choices. Fusion/Milan, Equinox/Terrain, etc. All that I'd enjoy & would be great, even lease-able at nice numbers. My problem arises in the "not special" category...but it's hard to find something that's as wow as a Solstice for such a low price but that's also not another impractical RWD sports car...but then again I need to be practical at some point and not have 2 or 3 things I love on good days but can't use fully otherwise... -
Exactly. It was a side joke I didn't finish. My "Whooptidoo" (he calls it that) driving father was out today and reported back "it didn't do as well as I expected, well, for the most part". As always, ice is ice, snow is snow, doesn't matter how many wheels you have spinning, sometimes you just don't go Last year I stayed home from work on our March blizzard day, working from home, for exactly the reason above. But today dry when I left, crashworthy 2 hours later, nuts.

GOOD ones! One of my best peeps with in PA who has a matching G8 and now works part time for a Ford dealer as a runner (gets to drive everything, swapping cars from dealer to dealer all over) recommended an AWD Fusion/Milan. Like so many other people, one of the favorites he always likes driving. Also the again suggested "with the G8, just do a 2 year lease on something so it's cheaper & you can swap it out every 2 or so years..." Not a bad idea, really, for what this 2nd car would be. He also suggested a Saab given the current crazy rebates and such, also not a bad idea. Same for the Equinox/Terrain, as I was looking at some Terrain stuff today, just because I tend more to that side than another Chevy. The bowtie just doesn't speak to me in the same way, no matter how much I like them. What I was going to drive, etc. today up north is pretty much the antithesis of all of these vehicles & so called wants, but I continue to want one. That rare, different, cool, etc. factor no matter how impractical also speaks to me. RARE, especially...hmm... -
Up until Friday my "perfect" idea of heading north (storm coming from southwest & going east) to Philly was a good idea, spend the night, etc. but seeing how long it went on and how bad it got, yeah, not a good idea. And I certainly mucked the car up worse my even trying. At least I didn't smash anything, damn ice. Scary, scary drive with zero control, period. Couldn't go, couldn't stop, just like being on skates. Yeah, again, shouldn't have left but at the same time...gotta get out sometimes. Though I think next time it's winter and a trip is in store, I'll borrow a Subaru

Exactly. And like I said, from western PA, I'm used to multiple feet of snow...you just shovel & go. Today, for whatever reason, and because it's DE, even the snow that did fall earlier combined with the temps combined with the type of snow, absolutely horrible. I've never driven with such a lack of any traction, just 2 weeks or so ago plowing through a few inches on back roads without even a slip and higher throttle. Today...like ice...and still having visions of sliding across a main highway sideways through a light, almost taking out a Buick...that old lady had to have freaked out seeing me sliding right at her. Felt like one of those cheesy winter/bad driving accident shows. Now at almost a foot, again it's worse elsewhere, but with such a lack of road treatment and the high teen temps, dangerous to the extreme and everything is closed. I'm stuck in the driveway for all intensive purposes. And fast forwarded the shopping for that 2nd car, because between this and when I move elsewhere, G8 can't be subjected to this continually. Few miles south, but not much difference. _____________________________________________ All I can say is I came so close today to wiping the G8 out, no matter how expertly I drove, just scary. I was impressed by the DE drivers for once, though, and their careful driving around me. That doesn't always happen in winter. Guess it was just that bad. First time I've seen every single local church, etc. completely closed for the entire day tomorrow, in a very, very long time.

Grr! Grr! Grr! Just had to say it again... Snow. I hate you. G8...well...he could just go back to Oz and say forget this...Borger's new driveway would be better...

After today calling my Jersey dealer back (hey, that might be a clue as to one of the new possibilities) to say I turned around & couldn't make it to check out what I was going to today...we talked about those and I said "maybe we can talk about a Terrain instead when I do make it up..." I was looking at those after my hell trip home (look at my other lounge thread...), and still am, sorta. Of course, I, like Roger would want one tarted up nicely Then I was browsing some CPO Envoy Denali's and even a TB SS...but...IDK... And the NEW thing still is big...what I was going to check out today at a few dealers would so NOT be a snow vehicle...but garsh do I still want one...what a busty little bird... As for what it was going to be, and was just about credit app signed & ready to roll? Well... -
It's snowing. It has been all day. A LOT. A LOT more than expected. It won't stop. It just keeps coming and coming and coming. I had a "plan" today to get up, eat and leave for Philly/Jersey/etc. before it really started and because the forecast up there was better, drier, etc. After some issues, got rolling around 9:45, it was snowing & white here but dry about 5 miles from home, hit Wawa for coffee & kept going. Got to just past Milton on Rt. 1 north (for those of you who know DE beach area), the road all of a sudden turned wet & covered in brown salt then I saw I was a few cars back from a salt truck. I thought I could escape DE without getting the G8 crudded up, but it was too late. And the pending doom look was too much. Turned around, met a friend for an hour in Lewes as it kept snowing then tried to get home. G8 & me almost completely bit it more than once. Slow slow slow. One road, coasting, cars stopped in front of me to turn. Let off, braked, felt like all locked & I was just sliding. Barely could get it turned enough to go off to the right & hit a field...thankfully not too badly. Struggled to get back going again, then got to the main road where I'd have to turn at a light. Doing about 5mph, tried to go right, ended up losing all control, braked & seemed locked up again, slid sideways completely across Rt. 24 from a side road, got 12" from hitting a car sitting at the red light but after about sh$%$%'ing myself, hit the grass on the complete other side of the highway and got corrected enough to keep going that way & spend another 15 minutes slowly back tracking to get back towards home...insane. You could still see grass, I'm from western PA where 3ft of snow just means "oh, it's Tuesday...", and I about killed G8 (even on it's new A/S tires that otherwise have had it tanking through some thick snow), and myself. Insane. This was yesterday: This was poor G8 after I barely made it back home today: Twin kidney's filling up & over filling: The start of the trip...but just hitting salt truck remnants: And the trip...post G8 about eating it & being ripped apart...nearing home: When I had left to come home, you could still see grass blades, the roads had snow but not much...but were just solid...rock hard solid...no go, almost. Crazy. At the beach. Poo.

Quick update to this. The potential deal on the "holy $h!, how is this even possible?!?" vehicle I first was talking about didn't go through, which stinks, but oh well. Now it's just time to shop otherwise Looking at my odometer, not to mention almost crashing today in bad weather, the G8 just needs a second friend period. All over the map right now, but considering a few things. Some impractical but cool. Others practical, stylish, etc. Just not sure. Today was going to be a northbound shopping trip to the Philly suburbs & Jersey, but I made it 20 miles, got behind a salt truck & more snow, and came back home. I'll let everyone know what the #1 was eventually... ...have some shopping to do. Any new/newer GM suggestions, ey, that would be a great 2nd beside a G8 GT guys? Up for other ideas, of EVERY shape, size & kind -
This is your thread...and a good one... As for me, still can't say, but what it "was" is now up in the air & I may be going a different route. Not sure. We'll see. Abstract & annoying response, my specialty. I will say this. No Toyota's Reality check Roger...but keep the ideas flowing, you never know when
-
I understand completely...old vs. new...especially with the same car. Never once had an issue except the one time early on 2 miles from home, but you just keep thinking "what if". Never happened, but regardless. It's serving the purpose intended, an almost cash very, very low payment used car that may not be 110% new perfect, but a tank and for used, about as cheap and easy to maintain as you can get without it being a base pickup truck...which will work until you decide on all accounts it's time to go new or newer again. Glad to help, otherwise, when I get to my phone or email Sadly apparently something big & bad is happening with our '93 underhood (only got bits & pieces from my brother, who now has it, sort of) so maybe we could be on that Roger's Fleetwood offer list. Heh, maybe even me...people STILL talk about "that car" I had & with my recent 2nd car potential news flailing by a thread at this point, it could be an intriguing & familiar possibility. I'd say a low mileage Sonoma like you had & pristine might not be a bad idea...just finding one and/or that mileage/age/etc. factor possibly not advancing you far enough forward is the main issue. A newer H3 would at least have that covered & hopefully some warranty, CPO or otherwise. Grr, now I want to car lot browse & shop too
-
Exactly. Find & drive one Roger. There are now some good deals on barely used ones...to the extent even I was just intrigued by a local Ford dealer having a low mileage fully decked out black '09 H3 for $25k. I think you'd really like one, Roger. Really. Not perfect, but a cool package, and would have a lot & more like that Sonoma you loved. Not a Prius, not a rocket ship, but a great smaller package with room for at least 4 comfortably enough. So, yes from me...find & drive to yay or nay the idea A Colorado or Canyon, with the right package, could also be a ticket but of course are more truck than SUV which changes the whole cargo, etc. deal and don't have that "baja" sort of feel.

As is my grandfather's '03 Rendezvous and every other Rendezvous I've been in...U-body van based or not, it and the 'Tek always felt about 10x more solid.

Hyacinth Bucket! Grandma started me on that show YEARS ago...another fave is the Vicar of Dibley...haven't seen either in a while, but crack up.

Happy Birthday! ...and AWESOME plate shot above, trinacriabob

Sounds like mom & her Camaro rim, that she's still in pain about. "It was a tight spot, my eyes were adjusting from my contacts in the dark & it's hard to see out of the car..." Or me and, right after having the G8 lowered, driving into town & parking face in to the sidewalk. Didn't feel or hear anything, and always before the car cleared everything. A week later washing..."that doesn't look normal..." and I scraped/dented the bottom of the fascia.

Here's a few shots from the AACA this weekend that a Tweep of mine snapped while there. Too bad...now even more...I GOTTA see this place. http://tweetphoto.com/9526318 http://tweetphoto.com/9527544 http://tweetphoto.com/9528099 http://tweetphoto.com/9528290 http://tweetphoto.com/9528658 http://tweetphoto.com/9529045 http://tweetphoto.com/9529626 Too cool -
Out for a very brief shopping/errands run today... 1) Brand new all black & chrome Nissan Rogue "Krom"...looked different enough to make me double take & wonder...but in weird "WTF is that?" way 2) Black '04 GTO 5.7, scraped up side sills & un-matched rear wheels (drag ready?), parked G8 next to it...could have been a family shot, had my phone not wonked out at the same time 3) New '10 Prius sitting in a sub shop parking spot, driver/older dude out with the hood open scratching his head & wife inside...I can only imagine... ...and the standout... 4) Black '09 Challenger SE, 3.5L, smaller aluminum wheels, etc. Waited for her to back out of a space, she waved & smiled to thank, then I saw the horror...base model car...but on the hood bulge she (or someone) had put the "6.1L Hemi" emblems from an SRT car...WHY...oh WHY...it doesn't even make "cool" sense...it's just weird...

Errr...and I presume few know exactly what "hold" means? That's odd, but again, not bad per say.
