  1. XP got it.... indeed the first use of an "on-board computer" was the Duesenberg SJ/SSJ of the early 1930s. Yes it was a mechanical computer but a monitoring system for such things as he brake pressure? Now THAT is attention to detail! Warning lights for the battery voltage & a confirmation light for the automatic, mechanical lubrication of the chassis by the computer? That's pretty amazing for an era when Model-A fords were the bread & butter car for the masses. Moltar: I believe the Vector had several power-train choices, including some wacky pre-VW "W8" (hence the name of that model), the protoytpes and a few of the production cars had Small-block based V8s with twin-turbos & also a V12 sourced from Lamborghini or maybe it was Mercedes or BMW was installed in one of the cars at one point, although that might have been by a customer.
  2. I hate "fart-cans", they're obnoxious and do NOT improve performance.
  3. I posted about this diesel-powered forced induction 2st-century-Checker-9C1 in March... http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...c=22949&hl=
  4. My theory is one of two things: - extra sensitive gas pump filler vapor-off system - 25% odometer discrepancy
  5. My gateway has served me alright.... but I will agree with Reg's microsoft comment. If Microsoft was a Hyundai Excel than Apple/Mac would be a MINI Coup.with the works package.
  6. DVD rewinder TRUE DAT!!!! It was once said to be both "one of the least expensive and yet most overpriced cars in the USA" by one of the major auto rags. Now that's a backhanded complement if I ever heard one. Toyota: epic_FAIL
  7. HE: ...it was not that kind of "close" you're getting colder.
  8. If I posted all the letters I wrote to magazine & GM about the feasibility, and NEED for a 5th gen. (1st gen. RETRO) Camaro and Firebird/TA I think the entire internet would crash. One of my best friends, the one who now lives in Arizona and daily drives a 1961 Rambler American was introduced tome by my ex when she found out his senior project was my personal crusade: making a business case for a 5th gen. Camaro. I did some illustrations toward this end. That was in fall of 1999, into the spring of 2000.
  9. Well, that raises many new questions, answers few.
  10. Moltar: Cord (810 or 812) is wrong. Although if this was horse shoes or hand grenades... Balthazar: If you said 24 VOLT electrical system I'd have said Tucker!
  11. Hemi under glass ooozed coolness.... esp.when I was a kid flipping through old dusty Hot Rod/Car Craft magazines.
  12. HarleyE: Ifor one, am not that impressed with the new RR, or any RR of the past 4 or5 decades.
  13. 13/15.... dupont..... lol
  14. didn't bother asking.... He's like a crazy religious nut, has an answer for everything, be it nonsensical or questionable...
  15. Yes, true... less time wasted playing with modern technology, more time for calling about old school technology for sale on craigslist.
  16. I found Slovakia's in just a minute of searching on google.
  17. It perplexes me how you can simultaneously call yourself a Pontiac fan and yet cheer on GM's starvation of the brand. it really does seem as if they're TRYING to kill off Pontiac. You yourself have said things to that effect , & yet you always seem to use a smiley face as if it's funny. You think it's funny that GM is on track to ruining another great percentage of their legacy and killing off a division that survived the depression of the 1930s, WWII & even a few bad decades (sales wise esp.) more recently? Sick. I swear PCS I do not understand your motives but it seems you're getting a paycheck from someone else other than just GM, if you even work for GM at all.
  18. Hmmm... that Old is cool.
  19. No cheating. What car is this quote talking about? more hints: - eight cylinders - 32 valves - forced induction
  20. I just had an opportunity to check out a nice '37 Ford 2dr up close. 1. bad news: it had its flathead replaced by a modern SBC 350. 2. good news: the guy has driven it 107,000 miles since the engine swap, shortly after he bought it 15 years ago!
  21. Another reason to despise those dirtbags & the garbage they make!
  22. I wish I could get service on one of these: oh... and BTW: our 1984 Mercedes 500SEC has a factory car phone! the 1997 Cadillac STS had one too but that car was 13 years newer, which is sightly less impressive.
  23. I had a terrible experience with Cingular... back in 2002, just after College. For years I used pre-paid/track phones. Since fall of 2006 I've been with Verizon. I'm happy with my service, phone & plan/coverage. I pay about $120/month for myself, my wife &my ex... that's a long story but at any rate, three phones, unlimited texting & a good amount of minutes all around. As far as my phone it's an LG "enV" hand-me-down from my mother in law. I had a Motorola Razor but I fried it when it got wet in a bad rainstorm. This LG is about the most advanced thing in my house. I remember when Speed- ingPenguin bought one for like $600 three years back.
  24. Oh GM, why hast thou forsaken me!?!? - Pontiac
  25. The net gen. fad? Heat extractors/side hood vents. From the Focus to Jaguar, and from the Escalade all the way down to the Vue.
