Ask Xp about the time I got pulled over on the CT/MA border in the Infiniti Q45.... The cop walked up to my car to SHOW me the radar gun that said "99mph" and he said: (and I QUOTE!) "Man you've got good reflexes, I KNOW you were going way faster than 99!" You see, as soon as I saw him I just hit the brakes and pulled over for him before he had his lights on... People who try to RUN away on an open highway end up in jail, I've NEVER been arrested, but I have lost my license a time or three.... Yeah, about 70% of drivers in the USA are fu&&ing morons!!! Speed kills... true. But for every time SPEED kills there's 99 otehr cases of somthing else being the problem: - driver distraction - alcohol AND speed - alcohol and falling asleep at the wheel - speeding in bad weatehr conditions, fog, ice, rain, snow... - I could keeep going And let's not forget, a$$holes like this who cause road rage cause bad situations & poor judgement to escalate to much WORSE!

DF: Yes, the car got buttered for ONE night, and at 10:00am the next morning XP had already texted me saying he can get the official part, through one of the warehouses and it would be there at NAPA the followig afternoon. It was installed Sun. morning in about 45min., since this time the previous clusterf**k was avoided as the temp. fix worked well... xcept for the lack of FUEL line hose in that one thick splice. And like I said that is why I immediately ordereed the exact part I needed, that could not be done at 8:30pm when I ripped the original trying to remove it. Wanna see the "MADE IN DEUTCHLAND" stamped package? XP can back me up, less than $20.00, so call it $21 after tax. ---- As far as the Avalon I described, I do not want to open up that can of worms but let me just explain something: It's the PASSING lane. NOT the 75-in-a-65 lane... NOT the "fast" lane... PAAAAASING. It was an empty road in the middle of the night, that situation calls for him not even clogging it up at ALL even if he was doing 80mph.... IF another 500SEC had come up behind me doing the 160mph top speed I would have moved the F*** over beause at that point HE needs the PASSING lane. People who hog the passing lane are NOT helping, making a positive differance or decreasing road rage and esp. acting responsibly or helping public safety by hogging the lane so as to police the public. Ever heard the saying "two wrongs do not make a right?" ---- Moltar: Oh I'm SURE that is 100% true, but how much of that $500+ is dealer markup on the parts & the absurd labor fees...? I enjoy working on my own cars, I'm too cheap not to, even when the job gets a bit annoying.

Wow... how evry cool, I had never seen the '62 Buick C.O.Y. ad. Thanks Harley! ----- Hmmm.... I could give a $ht less what wins C.O.Y. from Motor Trend, esp. in 2008, but I find this interesting: 2000 Lincoln LS 1999 Chrysler 300M 1998 Chevrolet Corvette 1997 Chevrolet Malibu 1996 Dodge Caravan 1995 Chrysler Cirrus 1994 Ford Mustang 1993 Ford Probe GT 1992 Cadillac Seville Touring Sedan (I owned a '97 STS for 5 years) 1991 Chevrolet Caprice Classic LTZ (current driver: '92 Roadmaster) 1990 Lincoln Town Car 1989 Ford Thunderbird SC 1988 Pontiac Grand Prix 1987 Ford Thunderbird (my first car, on paper, was an '87 Mercury Cougar XR7) 1986 Ford Taurus LX 1985 Volkswagen GTI 1984 Chevrolet Corvette 1983 American Motors Renault Alliance 1982 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 (one of my favorite old winter beaters was an '83 Firebird) 1981 Chrysler K-cars, Dodge Aries/Plymouth Reliant 1980 Chevrolet Citation 1979 Buick Riviera S 1978 Chrysler, Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon 1977 Chevrolet Caprice 1976 Chrysler, Dodge Aspen/Plymouth Volare 1975 Chevrolet Monza 2+2 V-8 1974 Ford Mustang II 1973 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1972 Citroen SM 1971 Chevrolet Vega 1970 Ford Torino 1969 Plymouth Road Runner 1968 Pontiac GTO 1967 Mercury Cougar 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado 1965 Pontiac Motor Division 1964 Ford Motor Company 1963 American Motors Rambler 1962 Buick Special (owned a '62 Special, loved it) 1961 Pontiac Tempest 1960 Chevrolet Corvair 1959 Pontiac Motor Division (I love my '59 Buick but '59 Pontiacs are awesome too!) 1958 Ford Thunderbird 1957 Chrysler Corporation 1956 Ford Motor Company 1955 No Award 1954 No Award 1953 No Award 1952 Cadillac Motor Car Division 1951 Chrysler Corporation 1950 No award 1949 Cadillac Motor Car Division -
Do NOT start a fight you are not prepared to finish. Trashing Pontiac & Buick to prove your point is beyond stupid. Talk about an "apples to oranges" comparison!

7,000 posts in two years? Sure, why not? Granted I'm not a upper-echelon manager but I am QUITE busy and still manage to rack up dozens of posts in a week... BUT this forum comprises of 50-75% of my internet time in a given day. I'm not also gaming & claiming to be catching red-eye flights all over the world on GM's tab and driving a $45,000 company car. More and more P.S.C.'s insistance that he does not owe anyone anything makes me wonder.... Like I said, TALK IS CHEAP, I call Shenanigans! You're missing the point entirely! I had a GM performance crate ZZ350 in my '68 Camaro with aluminum heads and other non-factory junk but I did not try to post it claiming it was a GM prototype car from '67 that pre-dated the ZL1 or some other B.S.

Wanna buy a Packard, or rather the Packard?
Sixty8panther replied to Intrepidation's topic in The Lounge
The Chinese were, durring the "cultural revolutiopn", trying to make tanks and otehr military equipt. from melted down spoons and other metals, even WHITE metals, that made thier stupid botched abortion of a Communist regime even more laughable. I will be the first to embrace China and be 100% for sending them our best wishes... AFTER they rid themselves of their Socialist tendencies and purge their attempts at replicating Stalinist CCCP. F*** ANY country that is communist, I think it's DISGUSTING that after working at H.P. for 18 years my dad's job was taken from him and shipped to "Kommunist Republik of China"... it's also esp. IRONIC since we (my family) came to this country to escape the Communist oppresion of 1980s CzechoSlovakia! It's vulgar and repulsive to me that we, esp. our government has decided to KNOWINGLY allow China to rape, pilage and burn this country's resources, monetary value & standard of living!!! And I also think that no Asian country, India, Japan, China or who-EVER outside the USA should EVER have the chance to OWN the rights to a nameplate like Packard. But... I'm sure plenty of you guys woud do it in a hearbeat; just pack up the F***ing Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell & hell, throw in 'old Ironsides' too, ship 'em over to China as a token of our goodwill. -
I replaced the main fuel-feed hose going to the fuel pump from the gas tank on the Mercedes 500SEC, it had a very slight leak when we bought the car & I knew it was a big part of the reason why I scored the car for like 30-40% of its' realistic current private seller value. It was a press-fit brass fitting with about 8" of fuel line & a hose clamp. So the WHOPPING $19.95 it set me back from NAPA... [brainwashed masses] German cars are expensive! [/stereotype] ...anyway the fix was cheap and quick but due to the gasoline that was lost as a result of the leak & repair, a good gallon+ is soaking into my driveway, I still have not been able to get an honest reading on the MB's MPG even thought I know it's going t be 18mph or so BEST case scenario. In other news I did a high speed run in the car saturday night but ran out of highway when a prick in a Toyota Avalon would NOT surrender the passing lane despite me coming up on him at well over 120mph and flashing my high beams. At any rate, the car feels smoother at 120mph than most '80s cars feel at 75mph. It's quite slow to get to 50, 60 & 70... what with even HIGHER gearing than the USA spec. cars, but once you're cruising at 85/90 the next 40 miles seem just a couple seconds away with heavy throttle application! So, long story short, the 500SEC has probably gone through about 60 gallons in the first 800 miles. Still slightly better than the Banana Boat, and if I attempted driving that tank at 124mph I'd probabbly roll it into the median after a tire blowout.

The Suziki Grand Vitara IS the best baby- SUV on the market right now. That is fact. BUt as far as these three Daewoo rebadge jobs, they've gone bad!
-
Eh... the Cien was awesome but not even half as cool as the Sixteen, there's a million "EXOTIC" mid-engined V12 supercars out there but the Sixteen was a car the likes of which we have not seen since the era of coachbuilt Dusenbergs, 452 powered Cadillac dual cowl phaetons etc... It's was a billionare genetleman's family sedan, a car with the potential to be considered adult, not a toy or a sports car, a car that was something a Rockefeller Aristocrat or J.P. Morgan would be impressed by.... The Sixteen made the Maybach look lame by comparison, like a BMW 5-series makes a Lincoln MKZ look stupid by comparison.

New Buick to be called LaCrosse, has been butchered.
Sixty8panther replied to vonVeezelsnider's topic in Buick
Lord almighty... what a sad, anti-climactic product launch. GM might as well put a pillow over Buicks' face in th middle of the night. Like Moltar said though, what did we epect styling wise when it's just another FWD cookie cutter POS. The fact that Buick is not getting any products off zeta, not even one... it's disgusting. GM should be ashamed. -
Hhaha... the green Monster's trunk leaked horribly through the rear window... (the '71 Murder Cadillac)

And there you have it! 100% agreed. Here's a BRILLIANT idea: don't call it a HARDTOP, call it a "fixed roof convertible" or "non-retractable-hardtop" if not to the public at least in official litterature, that would make the regualtion obsolete/irrelevant sice it would not be a sedan in the eyes of our intrusive, dumb as rocks federal government.
-
The current CL600 was said by Mercedes to have equal or greater roof structure and side impact protection than a 2dr sedan, they even stated it in black & white in an ad back in apring 2007. I was going to say (write) exactly that the other day... Excellent point! A, B & C-pillars are already thicker than is practical for visibility, so as far as I'm concerned these new regulations are throwing out the baby with the bathwater by ignoring PREVENTATIVE SAFETY! Thanks Feds!
-
Now that is an idea I can get behind. I agree 100% about the unsafe driver being the weakest, & most dangerous link in even the most unsafe "deathtrap" like a Pinto. Now gimmie my hardtop GM!!!
-
A word about the famous Pinto accident: - Those girls had JUST FILLED UP that little POS with a full tank of gas - They never put their gas cap back on - It was a dumb move to stop the car half in the slow lane of a highway So let's recap: four young naive girls pull over on the highway and get promptly rear-ended by an 18-wheeled, 20-ton truck.... the open gas tank gushes raw, fresh gasoline out of the filler neck and all over the twised wreck which is now a huge jailcell, contorted into a solid ball of bent up metal. You know what would have helped their chances? A DOT-mandated fire extinguisher in the semi. BTW: You know that little spring loaded-flap that partially closes the fuel filler neck on your car when you take the nossle out of the neck? Thank those girls for that invention. QUOTE(Satty @ Aug 7 2008, 04:32 PM) There is a small, ghetto car lot that has a Gremlin sitting back behind, I wonder if they're saving it for the day they become collector's items. Yeah... there's millions of those retards out there. These people, that think cars age like a fine wine even if kept under a pine tree parked on a soggy muff of moss. These retards are the ones who ensure the cars end up at a junkyard as.... junk, or at best, if they aree lucky they end up as parts cars. It's a sad epidemic, I call it "Barrett Jackson syndrome" You know: I saw some '71 Plymouth something-or-other with a 426 HEMI and white convertible top go through auction on TV the other day for $2,500,000 and still NOT MEET reserve... so OBVIOUSLY my '72 Fury III 4-door hardtop HAS to be worth something like $20,000. Who cares if it does not run, and the heads to the rusty-squirrel-nest 440 blockare in the trunk... and the car has not run in 12 years or been moved under it's own power since 1989.... Oh, and BTW: the carb ran a bit rich when I last drove it so you - might - want to have that rebuilt along with the transmission that has some metal shavings on the dipstick.... It might be a good idea... Okay, seriously $18,500 FIRM, and I keep all the 8-tracks in the glovebox.

66Stang: Excelent point. There's one thing a '58 Plymouth Belvedere hardtop, '61 Cadillac hardtop, '68 Firebird hardtop, '71 Riviera hardtop, '87 MB 300CE hardtop, '95 Miata or an '08 Ford Taurus sedan have in common: There would ahve been a 99.9% chance of fatality to all the passangers in your car if that semi. had struck you at 60MPH. All done. Do not pass go, do NOT collect $200, R.I.P. That's life. Do I go the extra mile checking my blindspot, yielding & crossing intersections when driving my classic cars? HELL YEAH, and THAT is the ONLY way to decrease your chances of having a voilent, unexpected car accident, deadly or otherwise. What are you basing that on? One isolated test from the NIHS?

Oh, and the remaining $635 I would spend on german chocolate & lesbian porn!

WOW!!! This design makes the current Corvette look like a 1st gen. Ford Probe by comparison. I LOVE the Corvette, I really DO, but both the 5th and 6th gen. redesigns are just slight departures from the 4th gen. All that talk of 2nd gen. |DNA in the 6th gen. before it as unveiled made me think the C6 was quite boring... it's performance is SO much better than its styling depicts. PLEASE GM, PLEASE, build something THIS radical... it will sell better than ever!

If you could fix the chief problem Big 3 cars had
Sixty8panther replied to LosAngeles's topic in The Lounge
Many valid points being made here... I voted "FWD = major suxage" BUT I think that an even bigger problem that eclipses FWD is to blame more than all others.... and it has to do with the safety nazis, tree huggers and MOST OF ALL, bean counters! It's the same reason why America does not build even ONE pillarless, fixed roof hardtop cars, it's why we don't have any stunning designs south of the $50,000 price point, why the Germans & Japanese are eating our lunch and will continue to do so... While the Germans & Japanese emulated American cars in the '60s and '70s and GAINED loyal fans & market share for decades after Detroit started going bland & unimaginative, FWD-everything, GM Ford and Chrysler spent a couple decades (talk about wasted time!) trying to build a better mouserap... er... japanese car. Leavee Camrys and Civics to the Japanese, build REAL American cars again and people will buy them. -
Some of the stupidity in this thread leaves me dumbfounded..... Let me get this straight, a car that is essentially a MUCH SAFER & more practical variant of a convertible is to be deemed UNSAFE and impossible to manufacture, and yet the much less SAFE and impractical ragtop gets to stay in production....? Disgusting. And beforee you ask, NO I do NOT want to erradicate ragtops, I'll prob, never buy one and they're not my cup of tea post WWII but I DO SUPPORT al of your RIGHT to own one.... How many of YOU can claim the same anti-hypocracy? --- MM: Enjoy that V8 under your Malibus hood, because soon that WILL be considered UNSAFE, excessive and ILLEGAL. Hope that makes you happy about your complacency. --- P.S. if the governement does not stay the hell out of Automotive regulation we really WILL all be driving "Government issued Camrys" in one sense or the other... and that my friends is a really $h!ty world to live in. More & more it seems, if you guys are even partially right (V8 or RWD or Hardtop doomsayers) than there are going to be many an antique plate in my future, what's sad is that with today's technology we SHOULD have the best of both worlds.

please explain... where?

Wow... that's sad, sorry to hear. Try your best to stay positive!
