2020 Mercedes GLS Leaks Out ahead of NY Auto Show

      ...Big Benz Leaks Big...

With most of the releases of the New York International Auto Show officially out already, there is not much left to leak.  However, there was still the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS that was yet to be seen.  A trove of those pictures have leaked out tonight.

We'll leave these here for you to peruse and comment on, but as this is an unofficial leak there is no technical information available yet.

Not much a departure from the current, but I think that is good.  The interior is a big upgrade, that is where the current model seems dated.  I like the sport front facia more than the standard, overall I think the exterior looks good, familiar but more modern.   The interior with the back seat upgrade looks more the like S-class of SUVs.

I assume the 48 volt I-6 is standard and the 4.0 V8 is optional.

Who picked that green paint?  They aren't going to sell many of those.

Fun fact, they have another 3-row SUV debuting next week.

At GM, shiny chrome = luxury.  At Mercedes it doesn't.   The GLS has done well, and they have to consider Chinese and European tastes also, as the USA is Mercedes' 3rd biggest market.  I think this will hit the mark.

Best looking Green CUV from MB I have seen yet to date.

    Interior is Meh!

Not sure why but I just do not get the interior design MB puts in them. The steering wheel reminds me of something 1980's, the grab holds on the center section between the seats clearly will be in the way of large people's legs and worse yet make people drop drinks and other stuff as they grab for stuff in the center area.

Give them credit for doing a decent vents on this compared to the cheap ass circle ones they have on the cars that reminds me of cheap circle vents on the fords.

I do like the large flat screen section of the dash, easy to read, see, etc. Rest looks right for the market, be interesting to see how comfortable the seats are.

Exterior I do like and while @smk4565 does not think it will sell in Green, at least here in the PNW Green sells. White does not except to Asians looking for purity.

I agree with @balthazar this does NOT look any more luxurious than the Buick.

Looks great. These things are just fantastic vehicles. If i had to pick a big SUV to travel cross country in with a family and cargo in tow, it'd be a GLS all the way. I love the clean, subtle design here. Mercedes is doing some damn impressive things these days.

Overall, I like it. It doesn't look like anything special and there's definitely zero "wow factor" to it.

You'd think they wouldn't have wanted to succeed to Lincoln in the interior game..but they certainly did. It's definitely an upgrade from the current one but it isn't a game changer.

Also, that green might not sell but boy-oh-boy is it pretty. I'm quite obsessed with dark "colors" lately. Dark green, dark blue, dark red... Love'm.

I was just in a new 101K Navigator recently, and I can tell you right now, even at that trim level, they are not an equal to Mercedes interior finishes, materials, fitment, tactility, and quality.

That said, I do like the the new Lincoln SUV's quite a lot, especially the Aviator.

    • 😒 Delayed indefinitely the mid-size EV Pickup, 3 row EV SUV and since it is a division of Ford, all the Lincoln EVs that were supposed to happen and now Lincoln will stay ICE with Hybrids as they stopped EV all together. So yea, you can say Ford is not committed to EVs anymore. Remember this was all the rage in 2022 when stories like this came out and Lincoln was to kill off all ICE by 2030, no EVs are dead as Lincoln will have hybrids between now and 2030 with Ice continuing on well into the undefined future. 5 Electric Lincoln Models Are Expected by 2026: Reuters Report So I would say Ford is NOT committed to EVs, they have pretty much kicked it to the curb. Ford Blue Campus was the Rage to be online by January 1st 2025 with battery production and the mid-size EV Truck and other EVs to start between 2025 and 2026. BlueOval City Now the latest is that production of batteries will start end of 2027 at the earliest with no time set for EV production. Hiring of the 6,000 workers by 2025 is now by 2030 at the earliest. What to know: The new Ford BlueOval City plant poised to reshape West Tennessee • Tennessee Lookout So yea, this tends to show no commitment to EVs Compared to other brands. IMHO
    • Doesn’t matter the date of the 3 row and you are making my point. All those other choices are not EVs and you left out the part where they thought EV demand had cooled hence their above statements.  Meanwhile, Kia has a three row EV rocking the roads here while Fire kicks the can. Point being they have, in fact, dialed down their EV future so my original point stands about taking them seriously right now. That can change but right now, the proof is right there in front of you and sitting in the Ford CEOs driveway (all the way from China). This is not an attempt to dog Ford. Just stating the obvious facts. Remember. We are talking about EVs only, not EVs, hybrids, and ICE.
    • Per your link, "What we've learned is that customers want choice, and so we're providing that choice, with a full lineup of EVs, hybrid, electric, gas and diesel products," said Lawler." Just because they're scaling back on the speed to getting more EVs out there, doesn't mean they're not serious or committed to them.  They pushed back "several" EVs? Name 3. Heck, name one that isn't the 3-row one that was supposed to arrive next year or so.
    • Are we going to act like they didn’t do and say the things mentioned in the article below? I also never said one word about the product being bad. Thats putting words in my mouth. They have, however, pushed back several potential EVs hence my statement above.    https://www.wired.com/story/ford-steps-back-from-evs-and-says-hybrids-are-the-future/
