BMW is hard at work on a front-wheel drive assault, with the company considering almost twenty-three FWD vehicles (Twelve for BMW, eleven for MINI). One of those vehicles could be a two-seat roadster, due out in 2015

“We are considering a car in the spirit of the original Z3. It is of similar size to the E36/7 [the codename for the Z3 produced between 1996 and 2002] but is planned to use the front-wheel drive platform to keep costs down and achieve a margin level that ensures it is sustainable at comparatively low production volumes,” a BMW official reportedly told Autocar.

Codenamed Z2, the model will sit underneath the Z4 and compete with the Miata/MX-5. The Z2 will come with a range of gas engine, including a 2.0L turbocharged engine producing as much as 300 horsepower.

Well, would GM and nearly every other car maker had not gone to producing primarily front drive cars for the last 30 plus years if it hadn't been cheaper and saved lots of room?

BMW is making 12 FWD vehicles? Chevy doesn't even have that many! (8 by my count for chevy)

They're considering making 12.. I'm thinking the count includes variations of the base FWD models (1-Series, 2-Series)

    Spark

    Sonic

    Sonic 5-door

    Cruze

    Volt

    Malibu

    Impala

    Equinox

    Traverse

edit: 9 - forgot the Volt

BMW is going down the WRONG road in doing FWD. People here see BMW as Luxury only with Performance Driving Road Machines and I see this backfiring for BMW. Oh well, they should use Mini Cooper to expand having Class 1 & 2 FWD appliances and not water down BMW. Europe might be used to this, but not the US.

This week, Hagerty obtained a document from General Motors' executive director in charge of program management, Michelle Braun that says development on future car and truck programs has been paused due to the COVID-19 outbreak. But the document also mentions some intriguing information on upcoming powertrains for the C8 Corvette. Here are the details,
Corvette Z06: 5.5L DOHC V8 known as the LT6 that will produce 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. No mention of any type of forced-induction. Corvette Gran Sport: 6.2L OHC V8 with a hybrid system that's expected to produce 600 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Corvette ZR1: Twin-Turbo 5.5L DOHC V8, dubbed LT7. Output is expected to be 850 horsepower and 800 pound-feet. Corvette Zora: The powerhouse of the C8, it will take the Twin-Turbo LT7 and augment with a hybrid system. This is expected to produce 1,000 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. Hagerty's report says the rollout of the new engines will begin in 2022 with the LT6, but the COVID-19 outbreak may push the plans back.

BMW unveiled the Concept iX3 at the Beijing Motor show in April of 2018.  The overall look of the crossover is somewhat conventional, but with the traditional kidney grille being closed off for aerodynamic reasons and special aerodynamic wheels.
The production iX3 will be rear-wheel drive only and have a peak rating of 286 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. All of that power comes from a single motor. The motor is BMW's fifth-generation eDrive powertrain developed solely in house. BMW says that the technology used in this motor is scalable and thus can be used in different automotive segments.
The battery is a 74-kWh pack that is capable of powering the iX3 for 273 miles on the European WLTP cycle (EPA rating will be lower).
The iX3 will be built in Shenyang, China through a joint venture BMW Brilliance Automotive starting in 2020.
Once the iX3 goes on the market, it will be BMW's first vehicle to be available in gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and pure electric drive configurations.

    • Easy answer to that as I have always had these in my auto's year round as they really come in handy especially in winter weather and you need to pee. No smell, easy to use for both men and woman and easy to dispose of when you are near a trash can. https://www.amazon.com/Travel-John-66911-TravelJohn-Disposable-Urinal/dp/B000NV878S
    • Weird Morning, but this is Monday. Starting off with Twisted Sister.
    • The problem w/ driving anywhere right now are bathrooms..public ones at parks etc are closed.   With the nice weather, I do want to go up the coast to some of my favorite beaches, lighthouses, etc.
    • Being a Roller Coaster Junkie, when the kids were growing up, I would pile them in the auto after school and drive the 18hrs to the parks in California through the night so we were there Saturday morning. Then I would drive back Saturday night getting home Sunday. Yes I am a crazy road trip person, but loved to live life and was so fun to just get out, drive and stop every 500 miles or so in the Suburban to refill the extra large tank I ordered with it when I bought my 94 GMC Suburban. Course Bio Brakes are always important, so would stop at the I5 rest stops when needed, but not places there for drinks or food, so having an ice chest in the auto and refilling the Yeti just makes it perfect for me. I know not everyone is like me. Even in this Pandemic, get out and go for a long drive and end up back home. At least your out, see the country side and then come back home to a nice BBQ steak and drinks is my thinking.
    • Additional movies I have watched in the last 10 weeks of work from home social distance that I really like and yes action / Scifi is my jam! I am Mother. https://www.netflix.com/title/80227090 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6292852/ Shanghai Fortress. https://www.netflix.com/title/81161230 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6628322/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3 The Titan. https://www.netflix.com/title/80148210 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4986098/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 If you like space, extraterrestrial aliens, action, then these movies are good to watch.
