    As the Diesel Emits: Volkswagen's Fixed TDIs Are Hot Sellers

      It was a good month for Volkswagen's TDI vehicles (the first in a long time)

    You would think the stigma of the diesel emission scandal would keep people away from picking up a fixed Volkswagen TDI model, but you would be wrong.

    Reuters notes that in April, 12 percent of Volkswagen's sales were for TDI models (about 3,196 vehicles). This is quite impressive when you take into consideration that Volkswagen was only given the go-ahead to sell TDI models with the fix back in mid-April.

    But we have to wonder if this percentage would be the same if Volkswagen didn't put some enticing incentives on TDI vehicles. As we reported last month, Volkswagen is offering either 0% APR for up to 72 months and $5,000 cash bonus if you decide to buy or an $8,500 cash bonus if you lease.

    Purely political.  There are deranged forces afoot attempting to force people into the fatal compromise of electrics.  Time and time again the public shows little interest in electric cars... and this is all over the world.  The Chinese are also showing "tepid at best" interest in silly electric cars that strip freedom and are a blatant waste of money.

    The Chinese had virtually no charging network last time I looked. Interest will grow when filling stations do.

    If The político climate changes we may well see them bring diesels back 

    Really looking forward to test driving a Cruze diesel!

    IMHO, they could go right back to selling them  The public has a short memory.  Did the Camry lose it's sales crown during the whole unintended acceleration fiasco?  Nope.  Despite that recalls and lawsuits are still out there for GM's ignition fiasco hasn't had the slightest bearing on GM sales.  Especially with GM jumping into the diesel fray, i think it would be a mistake for VW to abandon them.

    It's not just price, because we've selling ours for MSRP.

    There's people that just genuinely want them and will buy without heavy incentives. VW could easily just bring them back.

    Good for VW that their diesels are selling again. Still no substitute for torque.

    Electrics may be the future, but there are good reasons they should be: nearly infinite torque and you can change the source of how you generate your electricity.  Winston Churchill said prior to WW2 that it is a good thing that crude oil is in so many places that any one country could not totally dominate oil supplies.  Unfortunately, OPEC showed up not long after Churchill died and has made a (partial) mockery of that thought.  Because electricity can be generated from so many domestic sources, no one here will be subject to foreign interference.  Both nuclear and renewable sources will be more than enough to end our dependence on oil, at least within a reasonably short time.  Electric vehicles are not the threat some people think it is (in theory),  They just need to be made reliable and fun to drive, and that will come soon enough.

    I never understood the reasoning behind the idea that because VW cheated on emissions that diesels were on their death bed. All of the stories of European auto makers one by one dropping diesels from their product lines. It made no sense, company x is found guilty of cheating people out of caffeine in their cola products so all beverage makers drop cola products yet there's a sizable demand for caffeine drinks. No other industry out there would leave a market demand unfulfilled.

    I view VW fans in the US the same way  I view hockey fans in the US

    • There are a few of them. Not as many as the more popular sports like football or baseball or basketball. (GM, Ford, Toyota)
    • But the loyal fans are freakin' loyal. No NHL lock-out or strike will keep them away (No emissions scandal will keep them away)
    • In some cities, hockey is THE sport in winter such as in Boston or Minneapolis...(just like VW's diesel engine....nothing else will do for these folks but VW's trusty TDI)

      What ever the entry level version is, I thought it was the Z06, but as @oldshurst442 pointed out would seem I am thinking of the base Stingray version as a focus point. Yet if it is a $60K car, I doubt many can think of having it as an extra weekend cruiser.

      The Z06 starts in the 6 figure range. It starts at $112k. Add the "performance package" for another 9k (which should be standard on a Z06, right?) and it's a 120k car before changing paint, wheels or interior colors.

      Major announcement between GM and Hyundai. General Motors and Hyundai Motor Company Announce Plans for First Five Co-developed Vehicles - Hyundai Newsroom GM and Hyundai announce plans for first five co-developed vehicles The two companies will co-develop four vehicles for the Central and South American market, including a compact SUV, car and pick-up, as well as a mid-size pick-up, all with the flexibility to use either internal combustion or hybrid propulsion systems. Hyundai and GM also will co-develop an electric commercial van for North America. Hyundai and GM expect sales of the co-developed vehicles to be more than 800,000 vehicles a year once production is fully scaled. I have to wonder if the well-received PV5 electric van that Hyundai developed and sells under both Hyundai and Kia labels in Asia and Europe could not end up being part of the electric commercial van for North America?

Investigators say the 51-year-old U.S. citizen was attempting to illegally enter Canada. He was detained and handed over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for further investigation. Police Chief Michael Pearce praised the officer, saying, “This is an outstanding example of how proactive policing can yield positive results. While conducting a simple property check, our officer helped prevent an illegal entry into Canada.”   A defector... Reminiscent of former Eastern block folk from  the 1980s...

      I said the Z06, ZR1 twins will sell out.  GM will build as many as the demand needs GM to build.  And it will probably be a higher number than any Porsche 911 variant in that category.  Firstly, Porsche limits production of those track focused upper trimmed variants.  Secondly, like Ferrari, Porsche obliges the owners of would be GT3 RS owners to buy Cayennes and Macans and have a history of past 911 purchases. Only Ferrari gets shat on for that business practice... I dont think Chevrolet and Corvette as a manufacturing team and entity and GM ultimately, are ready to introduce a Corvette SUV as it once was presented a couple of years ago.  The Corvette engineering team is too focused on giving us mental performance from the C8 platform.  And more to come is rumored.  And then there is the 9nth generation.  The C8 is already on its 6th year.  Its close to the time where Chevrolet is thinking on the next gen Corvette.  Whether this next platform will come at year 8 or year 14 of C8 production, the 6th year of any Corvette generation is when Chevrolet starts thinking if another generation of Corvette is going to happen and is talking to General Motors corporate on what budgets are needed to follow. And then the engineering team starts to form to start thinking about what is the the next Corvette going to be like. And no...lifestyle vehicles have NOT replaced anything. The sportscar is still alive and well. For those that have the money to spend on secondary vehicles as toys, these people buy Hummer EVs just as much as Corvette and Porsches.  But those that do not have monies to spend, well, they cant afford groceries in this current political climate.   But sportscars are still being bought.  Lifestyle vehicles...too I guess.  I heard that Jeep is also tanking in sales.  I dunno if its only the Wagoneer or the regular Jeep, but regular Jeeps have gone insane expensive too.  And I do not see Rivians nor Broncos all that much on the roads nor do I see US peoples rave about Rivian and Broncos the way they once did 2 years ago...
