For the Gamers....

Recommended Posts

I'm kinda wondering if my Playstation 2 is about the kick the bucket or something....

I have one of the old playstation 2 (the nice big ones), and it is starting to have issues.

I'm currently playing NHL 2007, and it seems like the game is getting "stuck". I'll be playing, score a goal, and there will be like a 5 second delay before the horn sounds...

The game itself is fine, and I tried a Nascar game too, and it will do the same thing after a while...

Though I have noticed if I play hard for while (and does this with te Nascar game), it almost makes a clicking or disk jumping sound....

It has been just fine up till the last few days....

I've heard issues of drive and lense issues, but I'm not sure.

my friend brace yourself... it sounds like you may have the dreaded disc read error starting up on your ps2. the reader just may need fine tuning, it cant focus to the disk. you can kinda fix it for the short term. i had the same prob with mine, i had midnight club 3 and midnight club 3 remix came out so i bought it. both the same games except remix had 10 or so more cars. my ps2 would play one but not the other, then vice versa.

heres a video of how to do it.

That Disc Read Error thing is evil, my first PS2 had, it, it was one of the early models I was lucky enough to get for my birthday while they were in short supply. I still have it. It would stop playing newer PS2 games then games altogether and then CDs. Haven't had teh problem with any of the other PS2's we own though.

I should try this on my old one.

I'm wondering if I should just get a new one.....

Do the new slim ones have any issues? I remember hearing about overheating or something like that....

My brother has one of those and loves it. No heating issues. Sure you can't stand it up on it's own, but it comes with pedestal that screws on the bottom if you want to stand it up. He also has a portable screen for it. He's had it for over a year no problem free.

We still have our big one, it lasted 6 years, then the disc read error thing, we fixed the laser but it only lasted a few weeks. We finally went and bought the new slim one and the laser went out after 4 months, I sent it in under warranty and the reman junk they sent back had the sauders broken where the ac adapter plugs in, so I gave up. They are both in a closet collecting dust. I've thought about trying to find someone in town who could fix my old one but the new one can kiss my ass. lol

it's not really hard to fix, if you're handy with a screwdriver. it could take maybe an hour to do. just look how to do it by googling it.

the slim lines are supposed to be slightly faster... were there reports that they were going to redesign it again?...can't remember.

Well that's it.

"disc read error" came up after my game froze after about two minutes...

Won't play any disc, gave up on the memory card a bit after that...

Refuses to do anything now. :(

Guess this means I have to get a new PS2....

A black one or silver?

The silver is sleek. :AH-HA_wink:

I wonder if white is still available?
