We've been hearing about a new Infiniti compact car to take the Audi A3, BMW 1-Series, and Mercedes-Benz A-Class for the past year or so. What we didn't know was when the new compact would arrive, until today.

Nissan announced a new deal with Magna Steyr to build the new compact in 2014. In a statement, Nissan said Manga Steyr has begun work with them on the production model.

The new compact will utilize Mercedes' new MFA compact platform that underpins the new A-Class. Mercedes will also provide other bits for the new compact, including four and six-cylinder engines.

wow, this will be interesting. Paying MB for a car that will compete with MB.

I can see the auto mags now. Cookie cutter of the MB a series, same problems, same stange road handling manners.

Better body style or worse body style. Plastic interior bland compared to superior MB A version. on and on and on.

It will be interestingto see what they bring out. The image above and others on the internet have not made me go wow yet.

So there is going to be the Audi A3, BMW 1-series, Merc A-class, this Infiniti and the Lexus CT...if the subcompact premium niche takes off in the US, it will be interesting to see if Cadillac gets in this space eventually...unfortunately, they made it difficult to name since they used 'ATS' for the C-segment model.
