Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has announced that a new five-year revival program for Alfa Romeo is in the works and will be introduced next year.

"We continue to work in a pretty determined fashion in trying to reshape the Alfa Romeo platform and I think we will be in a position to outline more at the end of the first quarter of 2014," said Marchionne.

For those keeping score, this is Marchionne's forth revival plan for the brand within nine years.

The plan focuses on a new rear- and all-wheel drive architecture that is reportedly being developed. This platform will underpin four new models: Guilia sedan and wagon, flagship sedan, and a mid-size SUV. The architecture will likely be used for Chrysler and Dodge products as well. A source tells Automotive News that this new architecture will underpin the next-generation Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Challenger.

With this new plan comes something we're used to with Alfa Romeo: Delays! The earliest we begin seeing the new vehicles is around late 2015 or early 2016.

Maybe like GM, it is time to just KILL Alfa Romeo and let it live in the history books. One can only have so many revival plans before it is a lost cause and this is clearly a lost cause.

I do not see it surviving at the current rate of lost sales:

Last year the brand barely sold 100.000 units in the whole world, down 29% circa.

The brand is far from the late 80′s/early 90′s when it sold 144.000 units only in Italy (6% market share). Last year it had to deal with only 2 models, as the 159′s production ended.

In Italy, which counts for 42% of the brand’s sales, its registrations fell a massive 28%.

2013 Alfa Romeo may sell around 70.000 units, which is extremely bad.

Over All, either they need to make it a niche model with a smaller profitable number of auto's or kill it and invest the R&D dollars into Fiat & Chrysler.

I just hope they can keep the character of the Charger/Challenger/300. I DO NOT want them to be turned into "European Sports Sedans".... I like my big, cushy, "S-Class on a Budget", 300C as the sledge hammer wrapped in a pillow it is today thanks...

Yes..the size and heft is a big part of the appeal of those cars to me. They aren't about light and nimble.

The thing is, even though the LX cars are large, they can still dance. The Charger R/T is a better dancer than the 300C of course, but people have to compare them to cars of the same size, not just cars of the same price.

Oh yeah, they definitely aren't old school full size floaters... I've only driven a V6 300 of this generation, but it drove quite nicely a couple years ago around a variety of roads over a long weekend in N. California...

Alfa Romeo still has some crossover rollouts coming, however a recent peak at the quarterly earning statement gave a clue as to what else is happening at the brand, and the truth is, it isn't much. During the earnings call this week, CEO Mike Manley said that Alfa's "future product lineup has been significantly scaled back with a corresponding reduction in capital spend."
Alfa currently has two products on the market in North America, the Giulia sedan and Stelvio crossover.  Those will both be getting a refresh for the 2021 model year.  That same year, a new C-segment crossover will make an appearance. This model, previewed by the Tonale concept car, will ride on the same platform as the Fiat 500x and Jeep Renegade. It should eventually be offered as a plug-in hybrid as well.  After that, a B-segment crossover should appear as well.
Once the crossovers are on the road though, there isn't much left.  The expected return of the GTV and 8C Competizione don't appear anywhere in the plans.

FCA US Reports April 2019 Sales; Quarterly Reporting of Sales to Start in Q3

Jeep® Grand Cherokee and Jeep Compass post new April sales records Ram pickup notches best April ever as sales rise 25 percent Overall Ram brand sales reach new high     FCA US to report sales quarterly starting Oct. 1 May 1, 2019 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC notched four U.S. sales records for April, highlighting consumer demand for the company’s brands despite continued softness within the industry.

FCA sold 172,900 vehicles in the month compared to 184,149 vehicles for the same period a year earlier. Retail sales accounted for 129,382 vehicles and fleet accounted for 25 percent of total sales. On a year-to-date basis, fleet accounted for 27 percent of total sales.

The Jeep® Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee both reported April records as sales rose 10 percent and 23 percent, respectively. This was the second consecutive month Grand Cherokee set a record monthly high.

The Ram brand achieved its fourth consecutive month of record sales for the year, as April sales rose 25 percent to 53,811 vehicles. Ram pickup sales also had their second consecutive month of record sales with 49,106 vehicles sold.

"April marks the start of the spring selling season and we anticipate strong consumer spending as we move through May,” U.S Head of Sales Reid Bigland said. "The industry may be shaking off the first-quarter sluggishness, but shoppers are coming into showrooms and buying. We sold more than 300 Jeep Gladiators, which are now starting to arrive in showrooms across the country, and we expect our Gladiator count to continue to rise, reflecting both ongoing demand and the fulfillment of the 4,190 orders taken in early April for the 2020 Gladiator Launch Edition."

See the attached table for the breakdown of brand and nameplate sales.

FCA is paying Tesla hundreds of millions of dollar to pool their vehicles with Tesla to avoid EU fines over emissions. Tesla put out an invitation to other automakers to use its fleet to lower their emissions totals and FCA took them up on it.  Neither company released financial specifics of the deal, but it is estimated by the Financial Times to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Similar to California which allows manufactures with a surplus of ZEV credits to sell them to manufacturers who need them, the EU Commission allows manufacturers to pool together their fleets to avoid paying fines. Tesla makes significant money selling these credits in the US, earning $103.4m in 2018 and $279.7m in 2017. Once set up, the pool in Europe is good for several years.
Vehicles in 2018 are allowed an average CO2 emission of 120.5g per kilometer. That figure will drop to 95g per kilometer next year.  FCA's average for 2018 was 123g per kilometer, one of the largest off the mark of the 13 major manufacturers. FCA is seen to have fallen to near the back of the pack when in comes to reigning in CO2 emissions.
FCA was forecast to be facing fines exceeding €2 billion ($2.25 billion) without pooling with Tesla.
