Best Oil?

Recommended Posts

What do you guys think is the best oil?

Anyways, I'm asking because my dad always buys the cheap stuff... regular Pennzoil 5w30, and that's what I have to put in my Millenia (due for a change, according to what the guy said). However, I want to put the best stuff possibly in it, including high mileage stuff if it really is all that much better for an engine like mine. But yeah... Tell your what you use and what I should use. :D

We've used either Castrol or Quaker State forever, and not a single problem has arisen because of it. I might consider going synthetic. It's supposed to last longer and give better protection, but it might cause leakage depending on the car. One caveat with synthetic, though...once you switch, don't switch back.

I use Mobil1 full-synth in both the Malibu & the Suburban. The only motor I had die on me was my '88 Lebaron, and at the time I faithfully used Castrol. As it is, I can't blame Castrol for the untimely engine meltdown: I probably shouldn't have kept the car in the yellow-range of the tach for an hour.

Of the big four, the preference of the "regular oil" goes like this:

Castrol

Valvoline

Quaker State

Pennzoil

I have used Castrol 10W-30 exclusively. I believe in sticking to one brand and one viscosity. It seems to have paid off....over 225,000 miles of faultless service.

Not so much true-you can. I've had co-workers going from full syn in winter to reg. oil during the summer months(Mobil 1) with almost no issues..(just a little leak he had)

I personally wouldn't switch back and forth though... :)

On my newer cars, one runs on Mobil 1, but the other is still running on dino oil

(until it gets to the proper milage)-but will get Mobil 1 as soon as it is time...

The wagon runs on Quaker State, which it has been running on since new.

It will keep getting QS until it stops running...no messing with that .... :)

if you can afford $8 a quart go with nothing but Royale Purple. The best oil out there. I have used it before its the $h!ttttttt.... I noticed a little more responsive throttle.
