Right now a big issue in China is that manufacturer, particularly in tech and automotive, are required to turn over intellectual property to state-owned businesses. Trump is fighting that. I disagree with such turnovers in China and I disagree with it here.1 point

They have multiple avenues. Since they are trying to be more economically democratic, but still with a directed economy, the way to most influence consumer spending is to charge additional tax at the pump and use that tax to build temporarily subsidized EV charging stations. That way "The People" can vote with their wallet the next time they buy a new car.1 point

My fault, the way I said it came out wrong and unclear. Trump is arguing with China to get them to stop this requirement. That's what I agree with him on.... not the domestic requirements he is doing here.1 point

Unless everyone is pumping at 100%, which they aren't, oil producers can increase production faster than Chinese industry can increase car sales. Furthermore, as the price of oil goes up, indirect industry tends to slow. The oil prices going up rapidly is one of those Series of Unfortunate Events that helped to cause the last big economic meltdown. Socialism isn't the issue.. corruption is.1 point

That was some especially dry sarcasm on my part. i had hoped no one would think I seriously believe Venezuela is being pulled out of it’s problems as if oil hits $200 a barrel the world will probably crumble.1 point

Thorough review ... I rented one on the heels of a Nissan Altima for a few days after an exchange and liked it much better than the Altima. I was able to get over 41 mpg (after converting kilometers and liters) on a jaunt from Quebec City back to Montreal in an Altima and thought they were great. Then, the Sonata told me how much more definition there is with a step-gear transmission. And, like you said, it shifted beautifully. I believe the highway mileage may have been about 35 or 36 mpg. I think they worked wonders with the mid-cycle refresh. The placement of "Sonata" in slanted letters across the rear has worked wonders for the car, albeit a small change. Usually, I don't like that. I also know that the current vernacular is to slope the rear back lite to the point of almost eliminating the trunk lid. I wish it wasn't as sloped, but it works with the car. I have test sat in the new model at both the auto show and in show rooms and, while Hyundai dashboards tend to be very practical, I can't say I like how horizontal the buttons are laid out in the center stack. I believe one salesperson referred to it as the "piano key" design/layout. That's a good way to put it. I prefer things a little more compact in the center stack. However, if I was buying in this segment and buying foreign, the Sonata and the Passat would be the only ones I'd consider. The price point of the Limited is too high. In lower grade trim, they are a good value. I would pass on the Camry and the Altima. Hopefully, GM can amp up its game in this segment.1 point

Wife did a Garage sale with 3 friends at one of the friends house and I was the slave labor lifting and setting things up. Lucky for me, I went for a walk to check on the G-Sale signs and saw this lovely in need of some TLC Super. The only Toyota I have ever wanted. Been sitting there for a while but totally would be fun to have. An old geezer with a tube in his throat out for a drive as he says he takes it out ever day that is sunny. 55 Chevy1 point

Okay a part of me is that this is totally invasive. Yet that’s basically what every automaker foreign has to hand over to get market access to China. Like I’m just pointing that out.1 point

'67 Chevy Sportvan, cute; set up with 'pop-top' roof, real solid/clean shape, in shop for front disc brake conversion. '54 Ford F-600 flatbed, all original unrestored, odometer said 11996. Amazing condition- no way did the odo roll over. At shop after sleeping for 11 years, owner wants it gone thru to get it road ready.1 point

Today's work : • sorted thru my box of various '59-72 horns, adjusted the original '59 horns until they honked again, then tested them vs. others so I have my '72 Riviera 4-note horn quartet together again. Have a 12-V regulated power supply unit, but it can only fire 1 horn at a time- need a car battery to blort all together. Will refinish the horns cosmetically. • put the car up on jackstands. Need to drill my gas tank to accept a 1/2-in fuel elbow, and it would've hit the trunk floor as is. Came up with some rubber bushing to space the tank down about a 1/2-in and clearance everything. Need to go buy a 7/8-in drill bit to get the fitting into the tank tho. Also need to buy and modify an universal fuel sender, as the original is shot.1 point

Just about every level of Gov't tacks on a 'revenue ticket' in just about every operation. It's automatic. Why in the hell should the local gov't take $9 of my money/year because I have a dog? What expense does the township incur due to my dog ownership? (Note: I do not have any dogs.) This reminds me of the 2017 census questionaire, where they wanted bank account numbers and balances down to the penny and any/all other sources of income, including cash. There was the usual threat of fines/imprisonment, mixed in the a heaping measure of threatening language. Big Gov't can take a flying fuk at a rolling donut.1 point

RE Trailblazers as discussed above~ I have a 'visual filter' which automatically engages to filter out modern vehicles- they're just amorphous blobs to me mentally. I can switch it off tho. RE TBs, my neighbor across the street has one see everyday. I switched the filter off and saw 2 TBs yesterday and 2 today. Does seem like a very good longevity rate for a vehicle 10 years out of production.1 point

With work, I stay in touch w/ colleagues in AZ via email, daily phone calls and Skype messenger (text only). For my teams in India and Barbados it's too unpredictable for video, so we have conference calls, with the occasional WebEx to share desktops. I've been working this way for over a year now, took some adjustment, but since I've been working w/ this team almost 4 years it was a pretty smooth transition.1 point
