Well, at least there is a proud set of folks out there to still keep them going. And with some pretty sad choices out there, the charger looks better every day... ? . Not that I hate future cars to anything, but it’s nice to have something with old fashioned balls....2 points

Which makes one wonder if he could not have the Model E, why not the Model Ǝ and really F&*K with Ford! This would then have given Tesla the Following Models: SƎXY1 point

There is still a place for Imperial measurements in today's world. Even for the rest of the world that uses the Metric system. Although I find some Americans refusing to learn the Metric system as stupid...I also find Metric users stupid when they make fun of Americans for using the Imperial system. feet and inches is still ideal for someone to describe height because feet is the perfect size. One Meter is too big to visualize. Centimeters too small to bunch them all up. Nobody uses the decimeter... 1.87 meters? 187 centimeters? 18.7 decimeters??? Sure, one could adapt... 6 feet 1 inches is simpler isnt it than all three metric measurements?! Fahrenheit, although I personally get confused with it, I ould deal with it as I work with Fahrenheit in my restaurant kitchen. Well, the Quebec health department makes us work with both Celsius and Fahrenheit, but I think its because Fahrenheit is more precise? So, Americans shouldnt be forced to change, but Americans should learn the Metric system. Actually, the world over shouldnt have dropped the Imperial system all together because it has its merits too! As far as Cadillac goes: ^^^ THIS!!!1 point

Here's my take on the Cadillac proposal. I actually can see a case for going to torque (vs. HP)- it's what an engine develops. And I also can see a case for using it so electric and IC can be compared somewhat to each other. What I am NOT on board with is incorporating it into the model name- that just seems like 'following the herd' and I never understood having the literal same car called a 'abc100' and 'abc200' and 'abc350' - it's schizophrenic at best. It's not a different model vehicle- ti's the SAME vehicle with a different powerplant. 'abc100AWDSunroof' is the same thing. Use nM for torque if you want- either as a discrete badge somewhere or on the engine cover. No problem with that. Buick used to use torque call-outs on their air cleaner lids. It's also stupid IMO to do it to be 'global' or because nM incorporates metric. F that.1 point

Thanks for shutting down the metric boys in this thread, Balthazar. Oh and yes, this latest badging scheme is stupid, even more so with the rounding up business.1 point

as someone who has a pacifica in the garage, and test drove a blazer a few weeks ago, the pacifica is a better driving vehicle, much better all around. Blazer isn't an equal. Pacifica is a great rig, deserves way more credit than people give Chrysler. Blazer is good enough for those who drive that and nothing else.1 point

There are THREE tune levels above 707; 808, 840, and the 'Hellaphant' crate motor was recently unveiled with 1000 HP.1 point

There was even talk about resurrecting the Barracuda name plate and making that a smaller and lighter convertible based on the Giorgio platform. And If Im not mistaken, this was why all the talk was about how the Challenger would also be on the Giorgio platform too. Or something like that... All those 5 year product reviews that Marchionne did every 6 months...had FCA projects going in all directions, then cancelling, then re-approving, then shelving, then reassessing, then pleading to other manufacturers to merge or form partnerships with, then trying to force partnerships with other manufacturers, then seeing nobody is interested, then issuing more 5 year product reviews every 6 months going in all directions, then cancelling, then re-approving, then shelving, then reassessing....rinse and repeat. Before I forget, somewhere in there in between all those 5 year product reviews every 6 months, FCA separated with Ferrari. Probably a good thing for Ferrari. As for the C in the FCA part which includes Dodge. The future looks grim Im afraid...1 point

Honestly from what I’ve heard-there is no future. The plans for now are to basically keep updating them until the eventual sales slide coming for these (and in general) cars. It’s why you see the freedom given to “hot rod” them up instead o putting that money toward some EV or downsizing (both would happen if they move on) Best I can say is enjoy them while they are here-any future in FCA cars is only AR alone......1 point

Fiat controlling Chrysler & Dodge will inevitably result in them fucking up both brands.1 point

Given there was no mention of Dodge products in the 5 year plan last year, my guess is it will be a refresh of the current cars sometime in the next decade. Nothing official has been announced. Whatever FCA is planning outside of Ram, Jeep and Alfa they are keeping very quiet...1 point

Per the Book of Knowledge: The Model 3 was codenamed Tesla BlueStar in the original business plan in 2007.[49][50] The intended name was Model E, which was abandoned due to Ford trademark. Model 3, originally stylized as "Model ☰", was announced on Musk's Twitter account on July 16, 2014.[51] Musk wanted the three current models to spell SEX, but settled for "S3X".[52] In early 2017, after trademark opposition regarding Adidas's three stripes logo,[53] the triplicate horizontal-bar stylization was abandoned and changed to a numeric "3".[54] I didn't know about the Adidas triple stripe aspect to the naming. The triple stripe reminds me of the hamburger menu seen on the top left or top right of mobile websites..1 point

I read it was Ford that blocked Tesla from using the name 'Model E'...Ford has that trademarked (probably for a future CUV EV). And yes, performance is very much part of the marketing and brand allure of Telsa as is the 'green' EV angle. After all, EVs like the Bolt and Leaf are sold on the 'green' hype angle and not performance. Performance has been used to sell cars for decades, as we all should know. Whether or not the typical driver ever fully uses that performance potential is immaterial..1 point

Cost..way cheaper to upgrade an existing, established model than design a new model..the costs in airplane development are astronomical..they've evolved the 737, 747 and other models over many decades with new engines, new avionics, etc.. And there is a very real human failure w/ the 737 Max 8/9 in that Boeing did not train pilots on the new MCAS software..1 point

That and European countries, other than England, stand by their automotive companies no matter what they do... Germans will never turn their backs on the German makes. Proof: Diesel sales in Germany are on the uptick and Im willing to bet the farm the German brands are profiting from that... https://www.motortrader.com/motor-trader-news/automotive-news/january-diesel-sales-increase-bucks-trend-germany-07-02-2019 As far as Boeing goes, I read: https://nationalpost.com/news/heres-the-terrifying-reason-the-737-max-8-is-grounded And apparantly the last accident, the 737 Max 8 was bobbing up and down as well, but the reasons for it doing that is still under investigation. And THAT is another reason why I dont think autonomous driving for cars will EVER happen! Airplanes have had computer flying the aircraft and controlling its flight characteristics for as it seems nowadays...forever. And as you can see, still not perfected. Awesome tech, as a F-117 could not stay in the air without computer control, but accidents do happen, as we could see...and pilots themselves are furious when they cant physically themselves control the airplane... Pilots, are still in the cockpit making decisions on flight controls, yet silicon valley thinks that an autonomous pod without a human being being aware of the driving situations will work out?1 point

Mr. Balthy. Its part of the sex appeal of driving and owning a Tesla. Teslas are not just same ole same ole, save the planet from ourselves electric vehicles. When unveiling the Model 3 he was quoted in saying: "At Tesla, we dont make slow cars." Tesla's 4 vehicles now officially spell S-3-X-Y. 3 because Mercedes blocked him for using the letter E. SEXY And speed is sexy. And speed, apparently, sells. And what seems to be amusing is that Tesla engineers are harnessing what electric motors can do in propelling a vehicle with much speed and getting solid range with the batteries. Im sure that if Tesla engineers geared the motors and the batteries and the computer software towards less speed, that the range would be slightly more than what Tesla vehicles currently actually offer, but Im also sure that talking about range without the speed might be less sexy and therefore a lot less sales. Its Tesla's marketing and image. And it seems to be working. I wouldnt change up the Model Y's image to be different from the other 3 Tesla models. As far as the shares going down...maybe its because Tesla has hinted that in the next quarter, Tesla might be losing money...again...and therefore hocus pocus smoke and mirror announcements of another model might not have deflected that reality...1 point

Aren't you an American? Same goes for Europe! I was in the UK last week, getting new tyres for my British Leyland P76, and they still have rim sizes in INCHES there! Probably too fucking stupid to comprehend how to go full metric - wonder when they're going to do that. - - - - - There IS NO math or computations involving an engine displacement call-out on a motor vehicle. It's not part of a formula, you don't have to involve it in any conversions, dissection of it's meaning is not required for legal operation... you don't do ANYTHING with it. No one is required or even asked to convert CI to soda bottles. The designation literally just sits there like a cartoon outline drawing of a ladybug. Just like when VW was selling the original Beetle in the US 50 for decades with "1600" on the decklid; if you own a Challenger 392, EVEN IF you're continually shipping all around the world and driving it in various counties, it literally doesn't make a goddamn difference what units the size is called out it. Saying all engine displacements should be done in one size "cause math" is even more fucking stupid than saying everyone in the world should speak one language. THAT at least involves interaction/ communication, commerce, understanding, etc... but try and push that idea.1 point

Yeah, that's dumb..... I'd love a CT6 850.... totally pwn the Germans.1 point

"To further complicate things, V-Series will have V badging but will not bear a torque figure. Why? In part because the number is too large. The CT6-V, for example, with the 4.2-liter twin-turbo Blackwing V-8 engine generates 550 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque or 850 Nm."1 point

Also, 271 ft-lb = 367 Nm. I think rounding up by that much is also ridiculous.. Everything else has forced induction, right? Oh I forgot about the N/A 6.2 in the 'Slade.1 point

I like this, makes better sense to move to Newton Meters and have a global understood standard. I wish the US would get on with modernizing and drop the stupid standard system and move to metric overall. The US would find it so much simpler to do math on everything if we went metric. I wonder how long before we drop Horsepower and go with kW as a global standard for rating of auto's.0 points
