  1. Cadillac’s EV model names would fit well in Ioniq..

  2. I wanted to see how the first set of lights would look like...as I was intrigued by that C shaped LED look. And I decided...yeah...no way! The look gets cheapened by the halogen looking parking lights on the bottom cluster. Then I came across a direct front view of the second set of lights And the there is something missing in the middle so although I DO prefer the 2 set upper projector and 2 set lower projector look rather than the Acura style jewel cluster look, JUST BECAUSE the middle of the clusters there is that double LED separation, THAT creates harmony NOT only between the top and bottom lights, but with the grille too. THEREFORE, I also think the third set of lights is best. My ideal would be the dual projectors on top, the jewels on the bottom with the double LED separation in the middle. If there was such a thing...

  7. Off-roading in an EV SUV is already proving to be superior to an ICE auto. Better crawl mode and decent control with electric motors. The Monochromatic Z71 would be awesome with a large Frunk and better control plus nice and quiet.

  10. I suspect the full size Ram-based 3 row models (Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer) will be in Tahoe/Suburban price range or higher, so definitely starting above $50k. The 3 row Grand Cherokee-based midsize will probably be priced and trimmed like the GC with a broad range of trims at a range of price points.

  11. I aint talking about that kind... But...like @David said...back to CADILLAC and the LYRIQ. No need to talk about Mercedes.

  12. It says own brand. Hyundai - Ioniq - Genesis, just like Chevy-Buick-Cadillac. It also does't make sense because it makes Ioniq look like the future brand while Hyundai is the brand of the past. Why damage the Hyundai brand while trying to make a spin off cool? A possible reason for this, is the Ioniq cars are going to be expensive, like $60-70k for that Colt 45 concept in the picture, and no one in their right mind will pay $60k for a tall Hyundai hatchback. So they figure a new brand will work, but it won't if it is Tesla pricing because they aren't Tesla. Who will be first to sell the Idiotiq?
    1 point
  13. Too many brands. In 20 years every car will be electric, so making an EV only brand makes no sense, because then when Hyundai is EV only, Kia is EV only, and Genesis is EV only and Ioniq is EV only, you just have overlap. The other big issue is cost. They have to market an entirely new brand that people won't know, which will cost a ton of money because they aren't Tesla. Look at how much money has been spent on Genesis to get about 10% the volume of some competitors. It think it will cost double what Genesis cost to get going, because you are launched a new brand and trying to overcome EV vs gas also. The billions they will spend in marketing could have gone into product.

  14. I just thought of another reason why Im not really into this "IQ" naming scheme. Hyundai has it going with Ioniq. *SIGH*

  15. We've discussed this before- base MSRP is irrevelant. No one buys vehicles at the base, no-options status, and vehicles starting around $100K have short option lists. A '20 Sierra Denali HD 3500 starts at $76K. Add ONE option, the Duramax, and you're already at $86K. But even at this price level, there are SO many equipment & options you can add, way more than most sedans ever have, it's ridiculous.

  17. @oldshurst442 Two things: 1) That's exactly what I was thinking. If a great white shark can swim up to Maine (a very sad situation), there's nothing stopping it from swimming up to Nova Scotia (Halifax, etc.) 2) The could have been me in that photo except that my rented Alero was a coupe, burgundy, and on the Trans-Canada Highway in AB near the Continental Divide. The moose was also a lot farther ahead of the car ... thankfully. But who can forget that?

  18. Silverado is already reaching into the mid $80K range. Sierra Denali is probably possible to bridge $90K. 'Why not'? Because trucks are better built, last longer and are far more versatile than sedan 'counterparts', with hearly as many technological features. Frankly, other than 'exotic' sports cars, trucks should already be higher priced than sedans based on that alone. New Tahoe is quieter at 70 MPH cruising than a mercedes s-class, and also out-brakes it 70-0 by 6 feet.

  19. Rolls’ are nicely trimmed but otherwise junk, so I’m not sure ‘classic’ applies, but OK. Another great example of ‘more dollars than smarts’ tho.

  20. Nice exterior color, indeed. However, I've got to say that, for their trucks/SUVs/CUVs, GM seems to make more attractive instrument panels and interiors than other car makers ... nice lines, contours, etc. Enjoy!

  21. That's a good price. You mean you actually consented to driving a Subaru? I recently was supposed to have an Hyundai Elantra or similar (mid-size) for 6 days and it was in the high $200s and I had to shop and shop for that. But the silver lining in the cloud was a NICE upgrade. I have found Costco to be good for renting cars. However, I don't think you can get frequent flyer points. (Or maybe you can if you give them the number at the rental counter.) Anymore, you just have to shop and shop.

  22. Not at this time. In unrelated news, after over a decade with Android (I was on the original G1 phone), I jumped ship to Apple and bought an iPhone 11 Pro in June. My Pixel XL battery could no longer hold a charge. The current Pixel 4XL got terrible reviews, particularly around battery life and I couldn't wait any longer for the 5 to come out in October. So my iPhone 11 should work with the inbuilt system for playing music. I pretty much only use Apple Music now and that works well in my Buick's system. So in light of the fact that I need to do all the fluids, undercoating, and possibly tires, a sound system is pretty low on the priority list. The other reason I'm not going to do it soon is that I don't like any of the head units that are out there. Nearly all of them light up like you're throwing some sort of disco party. I don't like that. I want something that looks as close to the stock system as possible.

  23. Afraid to see what they are now. Our Rental Subie last year for like 10 days was like 300 bucks.......

  24. Neither, I will mostly keep it stock. I may swap out the grille, headlights, and tail lights for something more modern. I’ll keep it subtle and tasteful though. but, because it’s been sitting so long, I have to change a lot of the fluids out. I’ll be doing an oil change, coolant change, brake fluid change, diff oil change, and possibly tires if they’re dry rotted. So that will need to be addressed first...

  25. ^ it’s bizarre that one of those descriptors is tires, the other is rims, yet we’re all communicating here.

  26. So you going to keep it stock, or lift it on 35s for the brodozer look or slam it on 26s?

  27. It's a lovely design, IMO. Chrysler built an extremely limited run of a few variants of these in the early '50s, most of which survive. But the article makes a typical mistake in it's story: It wasn't designed by Ghia at all, it was designed in Detroit by Exner. Like all the Chrysler-Ghia collaborations, Ghia only constructed it. This is the sort of sloppy journalism typical of today, coupled hand-in-hand with self-bias against American industry. 'It's good looking, Ghia was involved, therefore Ghia certainly must've designed it..... NOT Chrysler.'

  29. Seems Biden, a GM Corvette fan might have let slip that a C8 Electric Corvette is being worked on and coming with a 200 plus MPH top speed. Seems the presidential candidate believes that an EV market could revitalize the US Auto industry in ways that have not been accomplished with ICE. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1129154_biden-200-mph-electric-corvette-us-can-own-the-ev-market

  31. Sweet truck..like the color. I haven't seen a 2nd gen Avalanche in ages in any condition.
    1 point
  32. @ocnblu Got it. 3G is the first two digits of the VIN. 3 is country code Mexico and G is for GM. So it was a Mexican built GM and there were only two of those on the list, the Avalanche and the EXT. While I wouldn't have said no to an EXT, an Avalanche popped up that I couldn't NOT buy. So, I have bought what is likely the lowest mileage 2013 Avalanche in the country. All the paperwork and loan has been finalized, I just have to pick it up on Wednesday. It's a Blue Topaz 2013 LTZ Black Diamond with only 12,800 miles on the clock. I paid $32,990 and Carvana gave me $8,100 for the Cruze. It checks all my boxes for heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, remote start. The only thing is doesn't have that I would have liked is a sunroof, but for such a museum piece, I will survive without it.

  37. I know, right? Its not as if there is some sort of magical border stopping the shark from entering Canadian waters. There is no COVID situation in the oceans either where Maritime Province cod, halibut and lobster all gang up on these Mexican and especially American Great Whites telling them to stay the *%#@ out of Canadian waters... They roam as they damn well please... PS: I felt bad for that woman getting killed by a Great White a couple of days ago in Maine.

  38. Awesome EV conversion on making a true luxury auto even quieter. Seems the owner of Johnny Cash 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow had 130,000 miles on it and needed a full powertrain replacement. Many here will hate taking a classic and changing the powertrain, but in this case, I think it makes total sense since your not looking for a roar of a V8 Mustang or Corvette but a totally quiet smooth ride. As such, I think this conversion is awesome for making the auto even better. The owner purchased a new Tesla Model S as the Donor auto to be used to update this RR Silver Shadow. https://www.thedrive.com/news/35534/a-classic-rolls-royce-with-a-tesla-swap-makes-perfect-sense

  39. Rental car rates seem to have gone way up. Probably to cover sanitizing the vehicles, lost revenue, etc. I am not even seeing weekly rates on most rental agencies' sites. They seem to price by the day. It used to be that 5 to 7 days were priced at the same rate, which helped out the 7 day folks.

  41. Sierra Denali starts at $55k. Maybe a 3500 dually diesel gets up to higher price. I am talking a vehicle with a base of $100k, GMC could never do that. And 3500 spec trucks with a diesel are not really a good comparison due to the commercial nature. I am talking passenger cars/suvs. Because there are Freightliner M2 106's selling for $150k and I wouldn't call that a luxury product, it is a commercial vehicle. If the Hummer is $100k and the Bronco is $30-50k, I can tell you right now the Hummer will last about 3 model years and be gone as fast as the H3T was.
