  2. EVs aren’t consistent enough to form any opinion. You basically have Teslas and you have the rolling penalty boxes that look like eggs. Shocker, the rolling penalty boxes that look like eggs have poor resale. The Versa Note and Chevy Spark have terrible resale also because they’re rolling penalty boxes that look like eggs. But that’s the entire market of EVs right now, there is no middle ground like say an EV CR-V. So it’s pretty impossible to form any conclusions as to what an EV resale landscape will look like when more models come out.

  3. And so a preference was permanently ingrained. - - - - - I appreciate your sentimental recollection. My grandfather had a string of Pontiacs - I only have one memory of his gold '72 Grand Ville, and a few more of his '76 Grand Ville. He always traded in, so the '72 left for the '76 (and the '76 got T-boned, replaced by a '78 Sedan deVille). My grandfather liked to recollect how his '72's 455 would pull. Said he was coming home early one morning from fishing, wanted to 'see what it would do'. He said it was still pulling strong at an indicated 120 MPH when he had to back out of it. Basically the '72 was this, but I recollect a proper metallic gold, and this is more a beige :

  4. What's with the millionth-place calculations? Getting tax reimbursements out that far to the right of the decimal? I'd like to know what the billionth place number is next time.

  7. True, I did see spam at a couple fast food places and roadside stands...read an article about it's popularity there. Otherwise, the food was great there...had dinner at the Benihana in my hotel (Hilton Hawaiian Village), the famous Roy's, a couple seafood places, and a really good Thai place in Waikiki....I need to go back eventually, want to go to Maui, the big island, and Kauai...both trips I've been, I've only been on Oahu.

  8. Winning...and dining = Charlie Sheen And if that is the case, Im guessing what happens in Hawaii stays in Hawaii? ? EDIT... I SWEAR I SAW WINNING in there. I had to restart my quote to you and before I knew it...winning was gone.

  10. Interesting article on EVs vs. the almighty state revenue stream (Norway). Someone, either the IC owner or the taxpayer (Hmmm, that would be the same person) is going to get hosed, in all likelyhood : https://www.yahoo.com/news/electric-car-warning-signals-denmark-134208182.html

  11. I actually preferred the look of the older one. It was much more distinctive compared to the competition. I’m done with small displacement turbos replacing larger NA engines myself, but this isn’t the best case scenario for that argument. The 1.8 was gutless and saw no noticeable fuel economy gain over the 1.4T. The 1.4T does roll on like a larger engine and would be perfectly suitable as a base engine in these. The 1.8 NA should have been dropped completely and a 1.8T should have been offered.

  12. I'm totally with you on this. I, too, would prefer a higher displacement N.A. engine over a small engine with a turbo. I know that there's CAFE and all these benchmarks the automakers have hurled at them and the turbocharger was one route toward compliance. However, ten horses and 1 mpg don't mean much to me when you can have simpler and more hassle free powertrains in the engine bay of your small or medium-sized car.

  13. And the reason for EV depreciation is pretty easy explain. From that piece you’re probably referring to, ”All of the electric models that lost the largest chunk of their original value are short-range models. One of the keys to success (and a signal of success) for the new long-range fully electric vehicles is that they escape the pull of strong depreciation. With the first Chevrolet Bolt EVs due to near that three-year mark early next year—and the new ones in their tax-credit phaseout—we’ll start getting some answers on whether that's the case in a matter of months”

  14. huh? Just read a piece that said the average IC auto loses 39% in 3 yrs, compared to EVs which lose 52%.... with the Tesla 3 being the exception @ 10-15%.

  18. No. I like the powertrains in the EVs... I like the Tesla powertrain. The Bolt EV is an absolute hoot to drive. My issue is the body they put them in. I wouldn't buy a Bolt EV even if it was powered by a Blackwing or a 6.2 Ecotec. I buy vehicles I like the looks of first, powertrain second. I bought the Avalanche because I like the Avalanche. The 5.3 I would describe as adequate at best, but I would have definitely preferred at 6.2 or even an EV if those were options. Lots of people like the Tesla looks enough to buy one. I do not. I think they look like a soulless jellybean and their interiors are spartan... but so does a '99 Taurus or Lumina. I wouldn't buy either of those either. Put the Tesla powertrain in a CT6 and I don't care if I can't afford it, I'll make it work somehow. I really wish AWD wasn't a requirement for me or I'd pick up a CT6 Plug-in.

  19. I have to agree there.....even the base model prices are getting silly.... And I’ve noticed in MI that the insurance really did not get cheaper on July 1st either.......

  21. The vertical slots on each side of the grille is why I thought it was the '40. A couple other spotting from that trip---a black '62 Falcon convertible, no top, sitting in a yard along w/ a couple mid 60s Ford F-series pickups and a couple old 60s-70s IH fronted schoolbuses, and along I-77 in Canton spotted a classic car dealer w/ a yellow '56-57 Corvette on top of the building on a sign.

  22. Well considering it’s a four door only (The 4Xe) and most of those pics show two door models, you should really reconsider the sheer idiocy of your comment. Again, FOUR DOORS!

  23. Again, for the deniers in the back, if you are looking at ANY Wrangler for its cargo carrying capacity, then you shouldn’t be looking at a Wrangler. Fortunately most people, with a lick of common sense, know what a Wrangler is for. Of course, most owners I know have done this with theirs because that’s part of the allure. And I (and you) don’t know whether I’m dumber than him or not. I just know I’m not dumb enough to expect cargo carrying abilities from a Jeep Wrangler. That’s why I said he was dumb for buying one of that was his criteria for ownership. Understand the difference before trying to insult me. Just dust off your knees and walk away if you’ve got a problem with MY opinion. And you have zero room to ever mention a damn thing about credibility. That is just laughable!

  24. Its not the story about your PDR guy I dont believe. If you care to know why Im nipping at your heels, Im willing to discuss it. But, you never seem to give me a back and forth conversation. Its only YOUR voice you wanna hear. So...the day you STOP answering back with laughy votes or laughy emogis or simply stop ignoring me or mocking me when I talk to you, this is alls you get. BTW...I thought you never cared about discussions. I thought you trolled because it was just amusement for you... ? So why do you care what I do with my, and I quote you, my supply and right to the red side of things? ?

  25. Then he was dumb for buying a Wrangler. A Wrangler has never been marketed for cargo room. On top of that nonsense you’re presenting, you said he had a two door. If you don’t see the problem with that where cargo capacity is concerned then maybe you just need to stop making up fake scenarios about people looking at Wranglers for their cargo carrying capability, all because Jeep now offers a partial electric model.
    1 point
  26. Well, it’s not the first time you’ve taken a knee. Might want to invest in some knee pads. Funny thing is that in this “pro vs con” article on owning new Wrangler, cargo capacity isn’t even mentioned on the “cons” side of the argument. https://www.car-buying-strategies.com/Jeep/2019-Wrangler.html That’s also ironic coming from Mr. “no wants an EV” himself.

  27. My guess is to why they're using an older Android phone comes down to cost. If they were to supply all of the Sonatas in the press fleet for the U.S., that would be quite expensive. I guess they had a stockpile from another thing or something. I did get it to work, but I found that I had to be a bit closer to the vehicle, like on the front porch to get a good connection. Also, I am an iPhone user, not Android. This is one of those times where I wished I had one. 1 & 2: Excellent performance for both of these situations. Engine perks right up and moves the sedan at a quick rate. Also, doesn't hesitate to downshift when needing to make a pass. 3. Might be a bit tight in headroom due to the sloping roofline and panoramic sunroof on my tester. I fit in there fine but I'm 5'8" 4. There is some in the rear pillars.

  28. Took my Jeep out yesterday on my first road trip in it of the year..drove almost 250 miles of freeway, small town and hilly backroad driving around E. Ohio....averaged 25.8 mpg. Not bad! Felt good to get out of the house for a few hours..hardest part of road tripping in pandemic times is finding a bathroom..

  29. No one, and I mean no one, buys a Wrangler for its cargo carrying capacity. That’s what the GC is for. Oh and yes, 800 lbs. heavier is “yikes” but it is also the most powerful model in the lineup.

  31. I was looking forward to this weekend and then, all of a sudden, some moron shaped like a bowling pin had to wimpily (red, not a valid word?) utter the words, "He almost walks on water." I'm sure this dude will go do down in the annals of televised interview history. Nonetheless, I hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend, the last official holiday weekend of summer.

  34. 800 pounds HEAVIER than the normal version? What a joke, how is that even remotely a good idea in a Charger, which is already criticized for being heavy, or a Ram truck, where it would trade off hauling capacity? The Wrangler is already not the best when it comes to cargo capacity. For customers who value that in a wagon/SUV, the 4Xe is an awful choice.

  35. Our PDR guy has a Rubicon 2 door, the whole cargo area is taken up with wooden racks for his tools, etc. OLDS, my ankles are getting raw from all the nipping. You don't believe me about our PDR guy? Weird.

  36. He's not as dumb as you. He's the brother of the owner of our company. And he does a great job. You on the other hand have zero credibility. Paintless Dent Repair You can bet it WILL be mentioned in "cons" for the 4Xe by the ppl who will be conned into buying one.

  37. Cool, looks like they're already producing accessories for the 4Xe, since it has a paltry amount of LOCKABLE CARGO CAPACITY.

  38. Do you know how feminine this post sounds? You downvote every post I put up anymore. It's a bit much, like... stalky. I like Pontiac Firebirds from 1970-1973, and long walks on the beach at sunset, or hikes in the woods without a banjo soundtrack. Do you like steamed chicken and rice? I do. Call me!
