It would be a complicated answer. There are many variables to consider and calculate. On all sides of the equation. Definition of "all sides of the equation": 1. people who are against EVs 2. people who are for EVs 3. people who are against oil and big oil companies 4. people who are for oil and big oil companies All 4 types are different from one another but they may belong in one subset or two of each other. Biased reasoning that will make it seem that batteries are dirtier than gasoline or batteries are cleaner than gasoline depending on what spectrum the reasoning lies on. In some cases, its that. However, if the world's engineers could decide on a future where compatibility of recycling batteries could be achieved, then it could be a cleaner future and a very interesting one at that... There is talk about using old EV batteries as a unit, a collection of EV batteries that are no longer viable to power a single car, but as a unit, could power factories, buildings, hospitals, houses etc... as a second life after EV usage. https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/car-makers-and-startups-get-serious-about-reusing-batteries https://www.mckinsey.com/~/media/McKinsey/Industries/Automotive and Assembly/Our Insights/Second life EV batteries The newest value pool in energy storage/Second-life-EV-batteries-The-newest-value-pool-in-energy-storage.ashx#:~:text=Potential to spark a second life&text=Subjected to extreme operating temperatures, useful life in most cases. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1110016821001757 One thing that us humans should be thinking about, IS trying to reduce our polluting ways. Whether EVs are the answer, we really do NOT know if THAT is truly the way to go. However, we DO know that using fossil fuels is NO LONGER the way to go. We DO need to change our ways in THAT regard and STOP using fossil fuels to power our every day transport vehicles. If we DO accept and adopt EVs as our method of every day transport, and THAT happens to NOT be the answer, then we shall course correct and find another way. But we DO have to STOP fossil fuel usage to adopt a new way. RIGHT NOW. If batteries is a short term solution, then so be it. We shouldnt be afraid to course correct every time a solution happens to NOT be the right way. Batteries, you will find, on the greater scheme of things, do pollute LESS than fossil fuels do. When you do your own research from ALL the biased places from all equations, and you read up on all the possible technology that batteries, electricity, charging networks using solar power etc, you will see for yourself that electricity and batteries have a great potential to change our way of living. For the better. Take batteries as a second life. Install used batteries in your house. Use solar power to recharge these batteries. Use batteries to power your home. No need to be on the grid for too long. The grid has a blackout, no need for a generator as your home will have batteries to power your home. And the possibilities are endless.. Already, EV F150s, as Ford is tooting around, that in case of an emergency, the truck itself could work to power your home in case of a blackout... Tesla's often laughed at Powerwall. Well, second life batteries started as an idea BECAUSE of Tesla's Powerwall technology... Keep in mind we are still learning about electricity. We are still learning how to create it, how to better distribute it, how to harness it... Maybe we us a species will find that miracle energy source that will power every thing, for free and wont pollute. Until then, we will have to course correct for slightly better solutions, small steps at a time going forward in our future for our existential survival. Batteries is this next small step forward. Just my opinion. But my opinion is NOT based on anti-anything or pro-anything. Im pro batteries, yes. But its not because Im a tree huggin. car hatin' green guy hippy. Im pro battery because batteries and electricity have the potential to be THAT utopia solution. But Im also not bound to that principle. The research to come to a conclusion on your own is exhausting. YOU will have to do it on your own though. Take it all in. Its worth it.3 points

Today is June 1st and the beginning of Pride Month. I feel like I can consider all of you my friends and I wanted to thank you for being allies through all the years we have been coming here. This website will be 21 years old in August this year. I've been at the helm for most of the time it has been around and have never been not open about who I am. Car culture has been a historically toxic, "macho" realm with no room for the LGBT crowd. I am proud that I am able to be who I am with you guys while some other sites have LGBT leadership that is unable to be themselves publicly. Cheers to all of you for being awesome. So in honor of Pride month, whether you're LGBTQ+ or an Ally, what have you done today to make you feel Proud?2 points

Hi! My name is Oldshurst and I am an automotive bigot. All CUVs look the same to me...therefore I judge them to be all the same. I also HATE them all!!! I wish they could all burn to the ground. I am NOT for a more diverse automotive universe. I prefer the automotive world to be car based coupes, sedans and convertibles while REAL SUVs should be relegated to work shops and off-roading. Hauling stuff around should be done in pick-up trucks and fullsized vans and if we need to haul families around, sedan based wagons should be the ONLY way. We could stretch that to vans and minivans. Yup...all CUVs look the same and I am Oldshurst, an automotive bigot. PS: I am NOT lying when I say that CUVs all look the same. The rest is just humorous banter. Except the part that I wished ALL CUVs dead dead dead!!!2 points

Ford announced this morning that it will be making $3.7 billion in investments to expand plants and add 6,200 workers at several of its facilities in the Mid-West. An additional $1 billion investment over the next 5 years will be put towards improving the workplace experience for manufacturing employees, including healthier food, EV chargers, better lighting, and more. As many as 3,000 of the workers added will be converted from temporary hourly workers currently on staff. As part of this announcement, Ford confirmed a new all-electric commercial vehicle that will be produced in Ohio to debut around 2025. The Mustang will be going global with an all-new design and the international and domestic Ford Ranger, currently different vehicles, will be consolidated into an all-new global design. In Michigan, Ford will be investing $2 billion in three plants to increase production of the Ford F-150 Lightning to 150,000 per year in Dearborn, the all-new Ranger at Michigan Assembly in Wayne, and the all-new Mustang coupe at Flat Rock. Ford expects to expand the workforce by 3,200 in these facilities. In Ohio, Ford will be creating 1,800 jobs with a $1.5 billion investment at the Ohio Assembly Plant that will be producing the new Commercial EV, along with $90 million for the Lima Engine and Sharonville Transmission plants. Ohio Assembly currently produces the E-Series, Medium duty trucks, and Super Duty Chassis cab trucks. Missouri will get 1,100 jobs to add a third shift in the Kansas City Assembly plant which produces the Transit van and will be adding the all-new E-Transit EV van.2 points

Random but timely thought: TOMORROW is National Donut Day. Check the chains and the indies for their specials so you can scarf down a donut or two.2 points

I did this. I used to pay the GM dealer about $ 40 to do this every few years. This time around, I paid less than $ 25 for this Bosch filter and $ 0 for labor by doing it myself.* It is accessed from the engine bay, even though it is indeed behind the glove box. You get to look straight into the blower motor as you do this! *proof that YouTube is your friend2 points

This I found very interesting and so true about these types of cars. 10 Times Manufacturers Built Cars Gearheads Begged For... But No One Bought (hotcars.com) Sad as many were pretty amazing cars. @oldshurst442 Seems the NSX are not selling and actually depreciating according to this story, maybe you could pick one up on the cheap.1 point

We've had crazy gas prices in Quebec since the mid '80s to be honest. In Quebec now, its ludicrous. Its Europe levels of high gas prices right now up here. EVs are looking better and better by the minute...1 point

Tiganites and loukoumades are very very similar. In all honesty, I think one is a variation of the other. Tiganites being flat and individually being of different size and shape and usually bigger than loukoumades and loukoumades being made round and more uniform to each other. And I was thinking more of loukoumades rather than tiganites to be honest. My aunt used to make tiganites and my mom loukoumades. I definitely preferred the loukoumades. Been awhile... Looks like @trinacriabob is more Greek than I am at this point. LOL1 point

I'm not on board here. I do not like Krisy Kreme donuts and their oil slick like glazing at all. I will readily stop by Dunkin and I'm okay with Tim Horton's donuts as well. I like the drier cake frosting of the latter two places. These Greek treats sound similar to but look different from loukoumades, which always seem to be available at Greek festivals. As much as I like Greek festivals, they can get pricey for their a la carte pricing. If I have room after the meat, potatoes/fries, and baklava, I might try these. And they are also good. This conversation is useful because it's reminding me not to miss out on National Donut Day!1 point

This sounds like a throw back to the 70's or a 20 year younger version than @balthazar Edit: Thinking on this, I guess that is what happened to cars as they all became generic appliances with the god awful coupe back. So then I guess CUVs will all dye and I wonder what will be next?1 point

Krispy Kreme glazed donuts are the best! Dunkin' Donuts strawberry filled donuts are a close second. Well, the ones that I tasted and ate in the 70s and 80s at least. Tim Hortons Donuts suck BIG TIME!!! I am not a big donut guy. We only have 1 Krispy Kreme location and its far from where I work and live. It was near my mother-n-law's house. But she passed away a couple of years ago so I dont visit that area anymore. Therefore I dont eat donuts anymore. There is a Greek equivalent called τιγανίτες. English spelling tiganites. Its fried dough smothered in honey. Sesame seeds are optional. Those I die for. Unfortunately my wife REFUSES to make me. Since my mom and mother-n-law passed away, I have no where to go and eat them anymore. There is a place called MR. Puffs in the Montreal region that makes tiganites. There is an outlet near my restaurant. I just havent had the desire to go. I miss my mom and mother-n-law.1 point

Well, to be honest, it looks pretty sharp for a really small SUV. I assume it is FWD-based but I may have missed it. If so, I think the relatively flat hood makes those FWD proportions look surprisingly great. I like it but nearly 40k for something this size seems insane to me.1 point

Last year with the inline 6 in the Grand Cherokee was 2004. It was last available in the Wrangler in 2006 I think. I put 170k on my '00 GC w/ the 4.0 6, it was a good engine..really never had any engine issues beyond a persistent small oil leak..it was the electronics that were headaches as it aged...put 170k on it in almost 17 years of driving.1 point

I'm neutral on EVs, but EV-curious... EVs exist, ICE vehicles exist. Reality is complex. I know in my current reality context, a pure EV probably wouldn't work well for me. A PHEV could work, though. Would I buy an EV in a year? In 5 years? I don't know.1 point

Today's photos from #MudFarmLife. My Mom's '68 Cougar should clean up nicely, along w/ my brother's '69 Fairlane. The '82 Mustang GT has no brakes. The red and white '68 Cougar XR-7 needs a thorough cleaning. Going to get my '87 Mustang GT out next week. My brother's ;'89 Bronco II was a pain to get out of the barn, they didn't want to pull it from the rear as the rear frame was quite rusty and the gas tank was falling off. And last, my Dad's breen (firethorn bronze, though it was originally Lime Frost green) '67 Cougar will take a lot of work to get out of the barn...been off the road since 1985. That's it for this week, taking next week off from work and will be down there back at it again..still a lot of work w/ the house and buildings. The mechanics will be working on getting the cars running that can be fixed..1 point

The transmission on my old Jeep was starting to slip on upshifts back in early 2017, at over 16 years old and 170k I knew it was not long for this world and made no sense to spend further on it..that was when I decided to trade for my '14. Other that that, I've never had transmission issues in 35 years of driving... 4 cars and 1 SUV w/ manuals, 4 cars w/ automatics and 2 SUVs w/ automatics.1 point

So had to fill up both the Escalade ESV and Trailblazer SS. The SS takes premium and the Escalade regular. Gas fill-up for both today was $246.72. Talk about crazy gas prices, good thing I do not just drive random these days and work from home.0 points
