It's also a weight thing. Thick rotors are heavier in a time when every ounce counts against MPG. If GM went through all the trouble and expense to figure out a process to bond multiple metal types together to make their vehicles lighter but didn't cut 7-10 pounds off the weight of all four rotors combined it wouldn't be a very wise investment.3 points

@Drew Dowdell Ill one up you... @surreal1272 first reaction @oldshurst442 reaction @surreal1272 second reaction @oldshurst442 second reaction Hopefully we could could to this outcome I probably got my dumb hat on today. I do not get it. I understand the whole 45 degree latitude thing. Montreal is above this line. Closer to the North Pole....yada yada yada. I dont get the connection. Im missing something. Please 'splain to me...2 points

Probably summer then... but it wouldn't be the first time a concept was shown in January (traditionally Detroit show) and then production version in April (traditionally NYC show). I don't remember when either of those shows are anymore, but probably one of them. I can't see them taking it to the Texas State Fair, another traditional place to unveil trucks, they'll get booed.2 points

One of the frequent comments regarding battery-powered trucks is that their range is significantly diminished when towing. This is true with petroleum-powered trucks as well, of course, but the prevalence of standard gas stations removes range anxiety for those who fill up with dead dinos. Eventually, as high-speed EV chargers sprout up across the country, as Mercedes-Benz plans to help with by adding 400 charging stations nationwide, those concerns should be addressed. But that doesn’t help buyers who want a battery-powered truck today. RAM plans to help ease that range anxiety. Yesterday, RAM unveiled the RAM 1500 Revolution Concept at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show. While the concept is electric only, the production version, tentatively named RAM 1500 REV, would offer an option for a gas-powered range-extender. RAM CEO Mike Koval Jr. told Autoblog that the option will be available at launch along with the purely battery-powered model. RAM sees this solution as a way to make inroads in the burgeoning EV truck market while the charging network is still being developed. Technical details of the engine weren’t offered. Still, the most likely scenario is a purely separate generator unit whose only job is to provide electricity to the batteries in a towing or heavy payload situation, or if the battery charge has reached a minimum. Autoblog wonders if a physical connection from the generator to the wheels is possible. Still, this is unlikely due to the electric motor being mounted transversely between the front wheels. While anything truly is possible, we think a 4-cylinder mounted transversely powering the front wheels of a full-size pickup is pretty unlikely. If you’re a pickup truck buyer who tows frequently, could the RAM 1500 REV with a range-extender option change your mind about range anxiety? Sound off below.1 point

In your case I couldn’t tell the difference.1 point

This is a Great concept and one that I hope both Ford and GM consider offering. In cold weather areas, if you're in the snow plowing business, this makes great sense. A well muffled generator to give the extra power needed during a long night of plowing and road clearing while being very quiet on top of the use for hauling over long distances.1 point

No Problem and No Offense Olds, I totally understand that many people do not understand how some might see technology features due to not having to deal with the health issues. For me, I live life to the fullest and if I die before the average person life expectancy, I die happy as I have lived a full life. I love the clouds of Seattle, the most times cloud covered, drizzle and yet still I got what my mom also got, skin cancer along with a dose of Basal and Squamous cell carcinoma. Sadly, my mom had it worse, first was the nose and then the second time with having to have her whole face grafted, but after proper treatment she is turning 79 this year and is still living. I had the additional cancer form of Chondrosarcoma which causes pain, swelling, stiffness of the affected area and in my case required the removal of my whole nose and the cartilage under neath as to why I have an interesting Silicon bridge with my own skin nose. FYI, You all can laugh as I do everytime I talk about it, but I always joke that may Ass is on my nose as that is the common place they graft the skin from. Yup, my mom and I both have an ASS for a face! ?1 point

I didnt know. I would like to apologize if my question came out as arrogant or stupid or anything negative. I didnt mean to sound like a dumb shyte. But I dont know how a person with skin cancer deals with UVA and UVB sunlight rays as sunlight is pretty much inescapable in the daytime. I took your concern seriously, but I couldnt compute the message and the necessary solutions. And this is why I couldnt compute what @David was saying because I thought that automotive windows already blocked UVA and UVB rays and I was assuming that glass roofs were built that way as well. I wasnt cynical about what David was bringing up, was just not understanding how someone that may have skin cancer issues has to deal with such a thing. And seeing this as a possible solution... I didnt even THINK about that.... I dont think RAM will oversee such a thing, however, in the video, the presenter nor the vehicle itself suggests that a screen will be available to cover the windowed roof. I personally dont see skin cancer as a minor thing in our society. However, I do take it for granted that I dont have such an issue. I take MANY things for granted, many HEALTH oriented things for granted because I dont suffer, my wife and kids dont suffer, from ANY kind of health problems. So its easy to be nonchalant about health issues. However, I have empathy for those suffering with health. Ive lost a father to colon cancer that went general. Plus...Im human after all. Those pesky human feelings make me empathize for our fellow man. Yes. Very valid point. Again. Im very sorry for my foot in mouth. Like I said, I take it for granted that I, for now, dont have any health issues. So details like this, I will miss and not understand so well.1 point

I'm not a fan of glass roofs as someone with light sensitivity. I have blue eyes and I've had lasik. I wear sunglasses even on cloudy days.1 point

As a Skin Cancer survivor and one that likes EVs, all the auto's having glass roofs bring up a valid point as I will still have to deal with the UV rays that cause skin cancer and more even here in Washington as the summers are still sunny here too. I did love the fact that the Cadillac LYRIQ has a screen that one can close and keep out the daylight. Yes, I think this is a very valid point and I never open my sunroofs on my autos anymore and all my windows are darkly tinted. Besides the skin cancer, I have also had another form of deep cell cancer that required the removal of my nose and had it rebuilt with a silicon nose bridge and skin grafts. Skin Cancer is much bigger issue than many realize and as such, it is a very valid point of concern with auto's having these all glass roofs. Yes, as a cancer survivor, all of my auto's as well as my kids have aftermarket tinting that is much darker to block all UV rays.1 point

Just thinking aloud. People with skin cancer, do they go outside at all? Like ever? If people that are susceptible to skin cancer and live in strong sunlight states like Florida and California, maybe a window roofed vehicle is the least of their cancer related problems and maybe, these folk should take up residence in less sunny areas. Not to sound cruel or anything, but I dont comprehend the issue you are trying to raise here. I believe windshield and roof automotive glass already blocks UVA & UVB rays. If this is truly an issue for somebody, they're already used to tinting their vehicles because no side windows prevent UVA rays anyway.1 point

Huh... I never questioned the mechanics who told me I need to change the rotors. I havent witnessed any machined rotors since my dad's 1994 Grand Am waaay back in 1998 or something. I dont think I machined my Alero's rotors and I certainly havent machined my Acura's. I needed to change the rears in the fall. I never asked for machining and I never thought to ask why they didnt offer me that option. Now, I have learned why without asking. Cool!1 point

@Drew Dowdell @ccap41 Ya guys had me wondering, so I called and talked to my service rep at the Cadillac dealership. The current Escalades use thinner rotors and are not turnable. They must be replaced where my 2006 Escalade uses much thicker rotors and can be turned. The lack of machine shops that can do this is another reason for GM I feel moving to use and replace rather than turn the rotor. Course much of this is moot with EVs now.1 point

Yep, I think I only paid like $30-ish each for my rear rotors for my MKC. It's also just easier to do the job all in one go rather than stop and run out, hang around for a bit, then continue the job an hour later when it could have already been completed. I honestly think that may be the biggest thing for me. I'd rather spend the extra $10-50, whatever it may be, to just get it done quicker. I HATE stopping to run out for something in the middle of a project.1 point

Motor Trend is saying they'll be selling the work truck version this spring. I found that interesting, as well. This is the first time that I can think of that a manufacturer is starting with the cheapest model before the most expensive ones. Motor Trend, and the TFL guys, have both said that the production version of this Ram will be shown "in a few months." That's one thing that seems odd about this concept showing yesterday but the production version in only a few months? I'm sure a ton will have to change from this concept version but I do really like the seating idea. The rest is all pretty "meh". I mean there are some cool things but its mostly gimmicky. "It's still just a concept, but the real deal will break cover in a few months. The design of the production model has been locked in and keeps a lot of what the concept is showcasing. And the name is also a takeoff: The concept is Revolution, the production truck will be called Rev." https://www.motortrend.com/news/ram-1500-revolution-ev-pickup-truck-concept-first-look-review/ WTF is "Rev" for a name. I don't love Revolution but it's way better than Ram Rev or Ram 1500 Rev.1 point

At the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show, Markus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer for Mercedes-Benz announced the company’s plans to build a North American charging network and an ambitious schedule to complete in 2027. The plan includes more than 400 charging hubs with over 2,500 high-power chargers spaced out over the continent. The hubs will be located at regular intervals close to highways, major intersections, and metropolitan areas. The charging hubs will be open to all brands, however, Mercedes owners will get extra benefits such as the ability to reserve an outlet in advance. Depending on the location, hubs will typically have four to twelve charging stations, with some high-traffic locations having up to thirty. The stations will be equipped with 350 kW charging stations with distributed intelligent charge-load management allowing each vehicle to charge at its maximum capacity to minimize charge times. The hubs will be built with food and restroom facilities nearby. Mercedes is partnering with charging network ChargePoint for its U.S. buildout. Mercedes-Benz plans to launch its network in Europe and China at a future time, eventually expanding to 10,000 chargers worldwide. View full article1 point

? Ya know it can be tiring when you are such a horse with blinders. Yes, first we know the government is covering charging stations all across America. Second is I have covered over the last year how Shell, Texaco, and Chevron have committed to installing charging stations at their gas stations with the first ones to start being installed end of 2022, rolling out across the U.S. throughout 2023 and 2024.1 point

2024 is when we'll see the production version... if it is actually in production by then I'd be surprised... but if we see the production version get unveiled at 2024 CES (exactly a year from now), then rolling into dealerships in September 2024 as a '25 model is plausible. The Silverado EV is supposed to be rolling out in the Fall of this year and I put my reservation on one about a year ago... so it is similar timing. Because of my place on the list, I don't expect to see mine until 2025. BUT... if this RAM keeps some of the useful features of the concept, I could see putting down another reservation deposit on this as well.1 point

Nor will it be. Ford might put a Lincoln on there to try and earn some ROI on it, but Ford is already moving on to version 2.0 of that platform, but the differences are so large that it might as well be a whole new platform. I think Rivian and Ford backed away from each other on vehicle development. They might share some motor or battery tech in the Lightning, but their cooperation on development has mostly ended. Elon woke a sleeping dragon by taunting GM. VW is doing it because they got the pants sued off them, but they are equally as methodical and their MEB platform looks very solid.1 point

cool video. cool truck. but when the concept truck becomes functional to actually show us what the crazy concepts shown to us could do, the RAM 1500EV remains vaporware. I know I said Stellantis (PSA Group) has been thinking about and engineering EV platforms for quite some time and are actually succesful in Europe selling them and we shouldnt be surprised by such a sudden reveal of a RAM 1500 EV but...there was nothing functional on this truck other than the easy mock-up details of a pass through from the bed to the frunk and the seats on rails. But...even with that, the seats were stationary and the dude couldnt get in and out of the driver's seat very convincingly. He wasnt gracefull and he looked awkward. OK...maybe all the features talked about were actually functional but because there was like only 1 or 2 of these in existance, maybe Stellantis didnt want nothing to break... I dont doubt however, that the features both physical and electrical will be offered and I do think the STLA platform and battery tech is fleshed out and minor tuning will be made and will be available for production soon. One thing though, since when using cow hide has now being considered as wasteful and NOT earth friendly and not recycable and not environmentally friendly? Using plant based materials such as the apple by-product material for the seats requires just as much farming land as farming cows if we are going to mass produce plants to re-engineer them to become materials to use as clothes or seats... Also, greenhouses to produce plants year round in certain areas of the planet require energy... ALSO, eating cows and using their hide as clothes has got to be the most basic way of re-using what we eat INTO clothes. Caveman been doing THAT for THOUSANDS of years. Im not some sort of far right nutter or a left wing snowflake, Im just a normal phoquing human being using my phoquing noggin the way humans NEED to use their phoquing noggin but this ultra woke shyte has GOT to stop. We are going overboard in over-thinking things to the point that eventually we will find fault in breathing air and drinking water...0 points

Yay for more chargers and anyone can use these. So we need the EV charge network to get bigger. But what I don't get is why do all these EV chargers need some sort of app and an account to log in to. Why can't you just pull up and swipe your credit card like a gas pump. Also why aren't gas stations putting in EV chargers? Or are they just going to sell gas only another 15 -20 years then all close.0 points
