    Back on Topic, This is an interesting thought about PSA and GM. We could see the start of consolidation and hopefully a clean up of the over capacity in Europe.

    I agree, a 2 seat EV will have limited appeal and the car is too small to really have a longer range like the Bolt. This will be a compliance auto for MB to use against their low MPG products till they come out with actual EV's in their higher product line and then I suspect we will see Smart Car eventually die.

    With all the Auto's on Gas getting better MPG than Manual, this is the one time I am actually confused as this is ass backward from what Diesel with Auto is getting elsewhere. I am truly confused how the Auto is worse than the Manual. Makes one wonder!

    ^^^^^ I agree, who can Photoshop this for us and cut off the space between the rear wheels and the tail light. That would be interesting to see.

    Do they come in AWD? Not that much difference in overhang. What 6-8 inches maybe 10? I would and feel all Hatches need to change one thing, the C pillar, that angle forward kills entry and exit. I would rather have it go straight up and give maximum entry into the back seat.

    @riviera74 I believe Drew as do I see where you could bring in PSA, get the intellectual property rights and then close and consolidate Opel / PSA to have a strong Engineering division with some profitable auto's that are used across the company. I agree with you that Europe is ready I think for a consolidation in the auto business. China will be the next place for consolidation as right now way to many auto companies there too.

    That I would totally agree with you on. The Malibu Maxx was a great idea with poor execution. Take that size and space with today's quality of built auto's and make a hatch out of it and there will be plenty of people who would love it.

    Disagree with you as the Malibu Maxx had awesome rear space. You could be comfy or fit a ton of stuff in it. Style sucked, but the over all space was right on for big people.

USA Today has stated that Mercedes-Benz has notified their Smart Car sellers that 2017 is the end of the Gas powered auto. Smart Car will live on but only in Pure EV mode with a complete lineup. Mercedes is quoted as saying they have decided that the three-cylinder, 70 HP powered auto that averaged 40 mpg just did not make sense any more in today's age of cheap gas and net battery tech. Smart Car only sold 6,211 autos in the US last year, down 17% from 2015 and Car2go has notified SmartCar that they will no longer be using their car in their program instead moving over to the CLA Sedan and GLA crossover as their customers are asking for. This alone which accounted for the largest amount of Smart Car sales would indicate the days are numbered. As such, Mercedes-Benz will show off a new selection of EV Smart Cars some time this year and only have EV models for sale in 2018. USA Today Story

    I agree, I am also surprised by the gap on MPG between manual and auto. I wonder how much more they will get in real world driving, after all someone is always getting higher than EPA #'s for Diesel.

    Sucks when after 233,000 miles your alternator decides to die. Had to finally replace it on my daughters 1999 Durango last night. Plus why go basic alternator for $127 when for $136 you can have the Heavy Duty version? Even with the couple times a year a trailer is pulled with the Durango, just makes sense to have the little higher output unit.

    This totally makes sense, those that want the flexibility of a CUV interior but not the tall riding position will move to the Hatchback. Makes one wonder if we could see the ugly mid size Coupe 4 door sedan become a midsize 4 door hatchback?

    as no American auto's but then I thought about what is the rare swans of the SUV world in Europe and Boom, I found it. #5 Spyker D8 $280,000 #4 Dartz Prombron Aladeen Edition $500,000 A super Luxury SUV built on the Toyota FJ Cruiser. #3 Paramount Marauder $650,000 weights 4 times that of a Hummer. #2 Conquest Knight XV $629,000 Ultimate fully armored SUV from Canada. #1 Dartz Prombron Red Diamond Edition $1.5 million from Russia. Fully armored against 50 cal bullets and rocket propelled grenades and leather seats from the skin of whales.

    I agree that everyone was building less than stellar quality auto's, Fiat just built the worse there was and that led to them tucking tail and running out of the country leaving many people with worthless auto's and a useless warranty. My dad had an auto repair shop. #1 auto for engine replacement was Fiats and the biggest request was to put in something anything that was reasonable price and better quality than the Fiat powertrain. #2 was conversions of American so called Diesel engines, really just a converted gas engine to diesel and terrible. No matter what, I helped my dad do many of these engine swaps and of course he put my two older sister and I through College doing this kind of work. End result is anyone with any real history and experience with FIAT knows they are far below the rest of the auto industry. As such FIAT should have planned for a flawless auto introduction in the US. They Did Not and as such we have the current crap round 2 that I expect will eventually see Fiat / Alfa leaving the US market in the future.
