Im a muscle car guy through and through. Although pony cars are muscle cars too, and the Challenger is also a pony car...the Challenger always played in both camps. More so the modern day Challenger than the classic one. Especially the Hellcat version... Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy: The Hellcat Challenger for me. Had this been between a 1969 Camaro 427 ZL-1 versus a 1970 Challenger 440 six pack, Id have a harder time picking. Id probably pick the Camaro....but then again... 440 six pack Mopar muscle is as good as it gets...This would be very very difficult...Id probably be at an impasse.

Im perplexed with all this technology... When these cars are new....the technology will be flawless... But when the automobile in question gets a few thousand miles on the odometer and a few years under the belt..an automobile is a machine...and machines break down and need maintenance, both scheduled and unexpected because machines...eventually break down and need fixin'. So...what happens to the technology that is there to "save our lives" but needs regular maintenance and repair...and the CHEAP ASS owner DOES NOT DO the REQUIRED maintenance? After all...some people forgo oil changes for Christ's Sake!!! People dont even change a burnt light bulb... SHYTE!!! People dont even check their tire's air pressure.... I FEAR the future we are creating with this nonsense!!! We assume that these technology filled life saving automobiles will be just as pristine and in good working order as the day the car left the assembly line....yet for 100 years plus..we KNOW that aint true...yet we INSIST to ignore... I FEAR THE FUTURE WE ARE CREATING!!!!

Yes. The D-Body line continued on in Arlington built on the same line as the B-Body. So now, the million dollar question for me that needs to be answered...for my own personal knowledge... Two Questions: Is that '90s Fleetwood Brougham D-Body related to the '90s Chevrolet Caprice B-Body in any way? And if so, what differs a '90s D-Body from a '90s B-Body?

Balthy...those are cool choices. Sled, a MT poster would do off the wall choices too, I miss him, but as long as I got you here at Cheers and Gears, Im a happy camper! -
What Would Buy Instead- GS350 F Sport Edition
oldshurst442 replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
It is difficult to pick cars when the prices are given in US dollars for the US market and Im living in Canadian dollars in a Canadian market...in Quebec of all places... OK...GS350 F Sport...in Quebec costs: 97 000 dollars... OK...Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 starts in US dollars: $66 900 OK....that is cutting it close...M-B nickel and dimes you so that base price really aint much to go with....so scratch that. A Tesla Model S starts at 71 000 US dollars....DAMN YOU FRISKY!!! with your 67 000 dollar cut off! I cant even choose the Chevrolet SS as its not even offered in Canada... I think Im good with the pricing with a Cadillac CTS V-Sport. 3.6 TT...I think the Premium trim busts the budget but the regular trim should be fine... EDIT: HERE I WAS BUSTING MY CHOPS TO SEE IF I COULD FIT THE V-SPORT IN THIS THREAD AND TWO WISE GUYS SNEAK IN AND ANSWER MY MOTHER&$#@ QUESTION...I DID NOT HAVE TO BREAK MY BRAIN....ALL I HAD TO DO IS JUST BE PATIENT AND WAIT FOR CP and CCAP COME TO THE CONCLUSION FOR ME!!!! AGGHHHHH!!!! -
The First (of Many) Dream Garage Threads: Sub 2.0 Liters
oldshurst442 replied to Frisky Dingo's topic in The Lounge
These were my choices back at MT... http://forums.motortrend.com/70/9688386/the-general-forum/dream-garage-revisited-sub-20-liters/page2.html I see that the Alfa Romeo has quite the following since then... I will change it up, just to be different. The funny thing is, I forgot what I had chosen and I was about to post the same cars...but I wont do that....just to have a change. 1. And Frisky...you beat me to it...with the SUV...instead of the Buick CUV I originally had, Im gonna go with a Suzuki Sidekick. Ypu have the Samurai...Ill do the Sidekick 1.6 liter or 1.8 liter...whatever I find. Maybe a Chevrolet Tracker...anyway...this: 2. I always do convertibles with these. Fiat 124 Spyder...Id do the Miata...but somebody already did that choice over at MT...I like to be different. And since Im not doing the Alfa Romeo 4c...I kinda have to replace the Italian Red Head with another... 1.4 liter Turbo 3. I need a family car...Ill keep the Ford Fusion. 1.5 liter EB...since the 1.6 that I have is no longer...and the refreshed version. Screw it...Ill take the Fusion when we do the 2.0-2.9 liter... Malibu...I guess its a 1.4T... 4. In today's world...electrics have become very very relevant...Chevrolet Volt... 1.5 liter generator...with ELECTRIC BATTERIES attached to it!!! 5. Im keeping the Acura ... -
^^^ You see Balthy, I always thought the 1990s Fleetwood was a B-Body...straight up B-Body. Then when BLU corrected me and said it was a D-Body, I was perplexed, that is when I googled Wikipédia and they said that the 1990s Fleetwood was a slight variation B-Body renamed the D-Body. Stew has acknowledged just now that a Fleetwood was actually called a D-Body. I did not look further as to what différences a 1990s B-Body had over the Cadillac D-Body, but that also symbolizes how yuppies felt about the Fleetwood back then so I did not look it up on purpose...to kinda prove a point in doing so as well...all symbolic. I only got to drive a 1993 Caprice sedan with the 305 I believe... I got to drive it quite often as it was a a co=worker's car. He was an older gentleman, in his 60s at the time, and he had a good looking daughter. I cruised his daughter many times, she never took my bait though, but he liked me a lot. He let me drive his Caprice often...maybe I should have tried to date him...he had money!!! LOL!!!

Good stuff, Frisky! I will also introduce shortly my "would you rather threads" when I start seeing interesting cars on the roads and I will pair them up for us to discuss!!! I will post my choices tomorrow...Ill let the thought process stir in my head for a while....last time we did this...many things have changed in the automobile world, so I need time to reflect. Just try to get Sled in here....I always liked his choices... -
The fat guy in his personal transport thingy hitting that M-B is the funniest Ive seen in a awhile!
-
Stats in general...are meaningless... Unless one races his car at the track or drag strip...but on public roads...especially when family haulers have 300 horsepower ratings, illegal speeds and illegal driving are attained in a blink of an eye, and not much room to do anything else with it other than crash and kill innocent bystanders. For me...the cool factor kicks in and the "gotta have it" becomes my measurement of performance. Anything under 6 seconds? my 2005 Impala SS came close to that measure. My 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD I believe does that in under 6 seconds. V6 Camrys also have 0-60 times under 6 seconds. That measure aint really that impressive anymore. 0-60 times under 4 seconds is impressive, though. Motorcycles were the only ones to accomplish that 20 years ago...to see cars that weigh 4000 plus pounds do that is impressive.

Well, Justin. My name is Oldshurst. I think I prefer your name as CadillacKing3. For one, I dont like Justin Bieber all that much, despite that Im Canadian... Also, I dont like BMWs all that much either. Hey...Im glad that you are back on your feet and BMW helps pay the bills for you. Its just that BMW and I have a love/hate relationship. Its personal. Id rather not talk about it right now. But trust me, you'll know why eventually if a BMW conversation ever comes up with BMW discussions. Glad to meet you... I hope you feel the same about me. You will see Im full of emotions. Just hang on for the ride...I promise you will have fun.

I must admit... The thought of that car has got me giggling. Like the first time I saw a boobie. I must make another admission... If the ZL-1 is gonna look like that from Car & Driver's article, I just got a boner, like the first time I touched a boobie. The wide hips and all other boy racer attachements really transform (pun intended) this car for me in ways I did not think was possible.

Well, Cadillac wouldnt be in this mess right now had the yuppies of that time did not think otherwise. Sometimes perception IS the reality. Semantics... It was the D-Body I was referring to...as per the pic I posted... I googled to get my story straight... Why its semantics? The D-Body was closely related to the B-Body... It had more Cadillac bits and pieces on it as opposed to the Chevy, Buick and Oldsmobile...because Oldsmobile sold a Vista Cruiser type station wagon for a couple of years... What were those bits and pieces? Who cares?! Yuppies did not care about those differences...just GM fanatics clinging on to the good times...but the good times were looooong gone! Like I said...yuppies at that time REFUSED to acknowledge this vehicle as a luxury car...it was a dinosaur... Hyper mentioned this Seinfeld episode... Ill post it for ya'll to see it... Cadillac...that D-Body Cadillac...any Cadillac...was relegated to retired old geezers in Florida waiting to die. Dont misinterpret what I just said as I not liking these last of its kind General Motors cars...BOF... I LOVE these cars... Id rather a 1996 Impala SS over that E39 BMW M5 from the same year... But...THAT was the reality back then, and only 20 years later in 2016, Cadillac is slowly getting away from that stigma...but it hasnt fully recovered from it just yet.
-
V8 or V6? Whatever...it will sell as well as the Blackwood and the Mark LT sold. But that very well may mean success for Mercedes Benz....I dont think M-B is looking to outsell the F-150, the RAM and the GM Twins with this... maybe 5000 a year is what they want...and they will probably get.

I know that the Bimmers in the 1980s were not luxury cars. Far from. Interiors still lack that luxury feel today... But what I was trying to say was that the luxury criteria was slowly being written by that BMW formula. Yes. I know that a Chevy B-Body and the Cadillac B-Body was world's apart. But...to the newly written laws of luxury that were slowly taking place, the yuppies of that time saw no difference in that Cadillac versus the Chevy. That is what I was trying to convey when I posted those pics and said what I said. I also like to explain why I feel that way...the way that the pendulum was slowly swinging the other way and me comparing that to big V8 SUVs of today... Some posters have voted me down and some have pointed out to me that the other two domestic manufacturers keep on selling V8s in their trucks... V8 trucks arent going anywhere...so maybe I did deserve that down vote and maybe my assumptions of comparing the deadly 1980s for American luxury to the SUV craze of today is unfounded fear...however, the importance of V8 power is not as strong as it once was, but the inclusion of electric motorvation is an element that is creeping up in prestige...and maybe THAT is what I wanted to say...but me being Greek, a tad of melodrama in my posts adds to the entertainment value that I bring. The title of that emoticon is "HUH?" Yeah...that is right! Sometimes I over dramatize to make a point and to entertain you bastards!

2016 McDonald's Mighty Angus Review by Suaviloquent
oldshurst442 replied to Suaviloquent's topic in The Lounge
We...my family...dont do too many restaurants as I own one, and my wife and I know how to cook so we make delicious dinners at home....and in the summer time...I BBQ all kinds of stuff. The kids will have a burger or hot dog at my restaurant from time to time. The only fast food joint we do is McDonald's. We do that maybe once every other month or so. The ONLY burger I do at Mickey D's is a Quarter Pounder with cheese and a Big Mac...Ill will always order the two burgers at the same sitting since we dont eat there often and I will always forever cherish a Quarter Pounder and a Big Mac. I figure...I might as well enjoy both burgers at once since it might be a while before I eat McDonald's again... Whopper with cheese at Burger King is another favorite of mine. But Burger King has closed 95% of its stores in Quebec so I havent had a Whopper in over 5 years. I wont go outta my way for one. -
2016 McDonald's Mighty Angus Review by Suaviloquent

LOL!!! Time efficiency is like the "reliability" of fast food. I like that line! If we ever start advertising on the radio...and maybe even take the big step and advertise on TV...I stealing that line from you! If it succeeds..the tag line that is..I will give you a cut....a fair amount! -
I HATE the 430/F430 Scuderia and the 360 Modena...so for me...if the question was for those...Id EASILY choose the new NSX.
-
Yeah..Id take a F355 also. But I heard that the repairs on this is truly a nightmare. Extensive and expensive. Not very reliable... One area where the NSX of those times showed them Eye-Talians how its should be done... So...the NSX does have a place in history....even if its only the 1st generation NSX.
-
Funny how that works... I was loud about hating an ecoboost V6 in the new GT...but I have since calmed down...and Im quite docile about it. I would still want a Flat Plane Crank in there, but the thing is, I would rather own the 2005 generation...and while the 5.4 liter V8 may still sound great, I feel that a Ford GT NEEDS a Flat Plane Crank V8, and my choice would be the 2005 generation....restomodded to 2016 levels of goodness. Yeah...it has only been a decade, not really needed to be restomodded, but hey...it is a dream garage type thread, isnt it?

About those luxury SUVs with beds... Are those bought just for the V8 burble sound or are those bought because of the excess standards the American Dream represents? This eerily reminds me back in the 1980s sometime when some of us were foolishly still believing this was still the norm: which was no better than this: which begat another generation including the chromed slat on the under body when in reality...these were fast becoming the norm for luxury excellence which of course just blew the doors off of that Boca Del Vista Cadillac in the mid 1990s... Not that the Escalade is gonna go anywhere, especially when Bentley and Rolls Royce are playing to the Escalade's strenghts...a weird scenario for a change as not for a awhile has the pendulum swung back to an American flavour that states what luxury is... But in that playbook of excess, in your face luxury....a V8 may not be part of that equation...an electric motor riding along side the V8, or V6, or 100% electric is probably the way its gonna play out...

Love the baseball pic CCAP! Busch Stadium is nice... OK...on to the question at hand. THAT is what Id rather own...a used Ferrari 458. Viva Italia! But when this eventually happens: Ill take the insurance money and get me one of these: with an engine transplant To have my very own flat plane crank V8 sound...but made in America, not Italia...because those that come from Italia seem to burn to the ground...

And about the CT6... Cadillac's darling? HA! Its a fine automobile...its a good thing Johan was hired when he was hired because I have a funny feeling that had Cadillac went along with the CT6 being the best Cadillac had to offer to beat those Germans, I think Cadillac's run for supremacy would have been very short lived right after the CT6's launch... Reality is that the CT6 is good, but not good enough. Mercedes Benz is not staying still... Sure, the low end entry level stuff is crap....but the high end stuff...its really really good. And the CT6 does not hold a candle to those. Maybe a CT6 is far ahead of the CLA...but reality is...many people buying into the CLA wouldnt be caught dead in the CT6...even if Robert Cumbersome would praise the CT6's style and denounce the CLA worse than he has the Continental...

HA! HA! HA! If he buys my next car for me, out of his own pocket...then and only then does his words carry weight... If anybody wants to buy ME a car...from THEIR own pocket...then and ONLY then do their words carry any weight with me... If he tells me that my favorite modern muscle car, the Hellcat Challenger is a craptastic design and he tells me that the Alpha Camaro is the modern Mona Lisa...and he wants to buy the Camaro for me...then yes...Ill agree to his words...if not...his words are just...words. Like anybody else's on this planet....and we are 7 billion people and counting.... You mean.....SUBJECTIVE... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... Even Ford Edsels today fetch a fair amount of coin at auctions... All he does is just criticize...just for the sake of criticizing... Not that I dont share some of his opinions on some of the styling choices and decisions Lincoln took with the Continental... But please...this man makes a living by criticizing... He will find flaws in the Greek Parthenon... He will find flaws in the Statue of Liberty. He will find flaws in the Mona Lisa. Just to sell you a copy of his editorial in the magazine he writes in so he could collect his pay and go on and buy that Lincoln Continental so he could drive it to New York City just to look at the Statue Of Liberty again, then take a plane to Paris and Athens to see the Acropolis and the Mona Lisa again... Like I keep on saying...automotive journalists are whores...they will say anything just to make a buck or two... Ive read many of his so called opinions on automotive style on many cars he has done... All of them...he just negatively criticizes... Funny...I keep on hearing about Harley Early, Ian Callum, Henri Fisker and even Bangle...but not once does this clown's name come up for automotive design... Taking the Howard Stern approach of shock and awe is sooooooooo passé, overdone and not very credible.
