LA Auto Show: 2017 Buick LaCrosse: Comments
cp-the-nerd replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in LA Auto Show
The new powertrain is hardly run of the mill. The V6 has start/stop and cylinder deactivation mated to a brand new 8-speed. With a huge drop in curb weight, this big sedan is likely to be QUICK (like running mid-14s) and still achieve over 20/30 mpg.- 104 replies

LA Auto Show: 2017 Buick LaCrosse: Comments
cp-the-nerd replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in LA Auto Show
Did you see the curb weights of the new Malibu at Motor Trend's car of the year testing? Base model was 3125 lbs and the loaded Premier 2.0T was just 3300!! Insane how much weight they've dropped, yet the Malibu was still one of the quietest rides in the competition.- 104 replies

That's the only thing about the refresh that I don't like. It looks tacked on or aftermarket at close inspection. I'd like to see one in person to be sure though.

LA Auto Show: 2017 Hyundai Elantra: Comments
cp-the-nerd replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
Powertrains are a resounding "meh." The current Elantra has lofty EPA ratings that significantly overstate real world results, even with the lowered ratings after the test fraud was exposed. I doubt this one will live up to the hype either. But at least they stopped over rating their engine power. These specs actually match the tepid acceleration their compacts have always had. -
LA Auto Show: 2017 Buick LaCrosse: Comments
cp-the-nerd replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in LA Auto Show
That is a stunner. They've really cleaned up the sheetmetal. This is a proper successor to the clean and stately 2010-13 Lacrosse design, which I loved. The interior design is super classy as well. After dropping 300 lbs and pairing the new V6 with the slick 8-speed auto, this Lacrosse might be a bit of a sleeper. I'd love to see a turbo V6/AWD model to really elevate the Buick brand.- 104 replies

LA Auto Show: 2016 Nissan Sentra: Comments
cp-the-nerd replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
This generation of Sentra has been an incredible dud from day one. The styling is weird and heavy looking, the engine sucks, and the CVT makes this the worst kind of appliance. I dare say it's on the same level as the Corolla, but at least that car looks decent now.- 7 replies

I'm really confused because I see a lot of derivatives like Casa, but especially similar to the new Jag. This is unfortunate, because I actually like the current MKZ and the developing Lincoln design language. The new split wing worked, and it was original. Are they going to have 3 corporate faces sold simultaneously? The MKS and MKT both still wear the old "refreshed" grilles.

My Test Drive of 2016 Cadillac ATS-V
cp-the-nerd replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Reader Reviews
Super-like. That is a stunning coupe. I am utterly infatuated with the 2-door ATS, so you're killin' me posting this! In my dream/future scenario I keep going back and forth between getting a 2.0T daily driver or the full V as a weekend sports car. Both would be manual. Thanks for posting your impressions, I know you'd keep it pretty honest if it didn't live up to your expectations because you compared it to the Vette you own. Good review. -
He recommended it to someone else. I was chatting with a guy who is modding his Malibu 2.0T (within REASON) and he posted his time slip showing his 14.3 @ 98, and mister racecar fool chimes in: "Looks like you just need a set of some DR's, I bet if you got that 2.2 60' down to a 1.9-1.8, you'd be well into the 13's." First of all, no, not in the 13s, but why is that even a suggestion? That's entirely missing the point. This guy's clearly one of the "car enthusiasts" that make us all cringe.
-
Ugh. Having an argument with a guy on the Malibu forum over why you'd have to be f@#king retarded to consider putting DRs on a Malibu Turbo just to eke out a few more tenths at a drag strip. Apparently everyone only goes to the drag strip for glory runs so all that matters is getting the best time for bragging rights.

Go. All. The. Way: '16 Camaro Motortrend Car of the Year
cp-the-nerd replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
It was like watching a car wreck, I would have thought Adam Carolla would have been a great car host, but he was nervous and sweating bullets, and his jokes were really bad. Also, at one point, the new MT video host was up to present an award and he ripped on Jonny Lieberman hardcore with a pretty harsh fat joke, which he realized immediately after and muttered a quick apology. -
Adam Carolla bombed and the audience was barely present all night. Wtf was up with GM not accepting the Colorado award on stage? I thought that was pretty crappy of them. It's an award show, an embarrassingly bad one, but an award show nonetheless. The whole point of coming was to represent your company and hope for the honor of an award.

"A 5/8 Ton Truck": C/D Tests Nissan Titan Cummins
cp-the-nerd replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
Yeah, if the truck had fuel economy in the range of 16/24 mpg and accelerated in a more usable 8-second range, it would be a solid package with the Cummins name. Basically, they need to put this drivetrain in the non-XD Titan, assuming it weighs a couple thousand lbs less. -
"A 5/8 Ton Truck": C/D Tests Nissan Titan Cummins
cp-the-nerd replied to El Kabong's topic in Industry News
The truck is a joke. What is the niche this attempts to fill? Are they (Nissan) trying to push it as an "HD-lite"? The capacities are in line with American half ton trucks, and it fails to deliver any sort of diesel efficiency advantage because of the 7000 lb curb weight. The 9+ second 0-60 run makes it slower than the Ram ecodiesel, which nets mid-upper 20s for fuel economy and has a slick 8-speed auto for surfing the torque wave. This thing drives like a dog and offers no clear advantage to a more nimble American V8 half ton, and god help it next to a real HD truck. -
I'll be more open to the situation if the goal is to move production stateside.

The eyewitness accounts are awful. Hostages weren't taken as bargaining chips, they were used to keep police at bay while they continued killing until they chose to set off their suicide bombs. Most hostages didn't survive. Only one terrorist of eight didn't get a chance to set off his explosive vest. I suppose it's fortunate that the terrorists couldn't achieve a plot with the scale and body count of 9/11.

I'm not happy when GM imports models in general (with rare exception: Chevy SS), I'm borderline-offended that they would import from China.

I think the new Civic could slip in and steal it. It's a clean sheet new gen like we haven't seen since the 2005 Civic (also a COTY winner) with a really strong design and great new engines. I want the Camaro to win, don't get me wrong, I'm just being objective. The new Civic is an excellent compact. -
@Motor Trend folks - since they updated the site, I can't log in at work. I don't know if something is interfering with the Mac OS or Firefox specifically, but it's driving me crazy. Is anyone else having issues?

Frankly, I agree. Take your case to someone else. Call the next closest police station if you have to. What EXACTLY does it take to prosecute someone in a hit and run if a witness and name aren't enough?? I think I am gonna check wih the State and see what they say. Seemed pretty ridiculous to me. Do everything you can. Selfish, irresponsible people make me sick, they act like they're entitled to cover their own ass when they f@#k up someone else's life. Sorry to sound like an angry old man, but our society is a disgrace. The "me, myself, and I" culture has GOT to stop. The same people that pull these hit and runs would probably be the first to turn around and sue someone if they got their ass kicked for their own actions. When my parked car was hit in the exact same way--minus the witness--not only did I have to fork out a $250 deductible, but my insurance decided to raise my rates by like $150 a year! I had a police report and did everything by the book. Thanks, State Farm. They're "like a good neighbor" that loans you some tools and then gives you an invoice when you return them the next day. I ended up dropping them and joining my fiance's bundle plan with Allstate.

They have a WITNESS AND A NAME and the cops wont pursue it?!?! What the everloving f@#k!! Yep, and me and the witness both went to file the report at the station. Irks me to say the least. All he could say was "at least it is just an old truck". Nope...that cop, sheriff perhaps...is just too lazy to do his job. Take it to a higher authority or go OVER his authority somehow...because that is a hit and run causing physical damage...and If Im not mistaken...a hit and run is a CRIMINAL offense ANYWHERE in the world. I know for a fact its a criminal offense punishable by imprisonment at the most extreme cases in Quebec... but still garners a criminal record even if just a fine is applied...and Im 90% certain it is the same elsewhere on the planet... Frankly, I agree. Take your case to someone else. Call the next closest police station if you have to. What EXACTLY does it take to prosecute someone in a hit and run if a witness and name aren't enough??
