  1. https://www.businessinsider.com/electric-car-owners-switching-gas-charging-a-hassle-study-2021-4 1 in 5 electric vehicle owners in California switched back to gas because charging their cars is a hassle, research shows Roughly one in five plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) owners switched back to owning gas-powered cars, in large part because charging the batteries was a pain in the… trunk, the researchers found. Of those who switched, over 70% lacked access to Level 2 charging at home, and slightly fewer than that lacked Level 2 connections at their workplace. "If you don't have a Level 2, it's almost impossible," said Tynan, who has tested a wide range of makes and models of PEVs over the years for his research. Even with the faster charging, a Chevy Bolt he tested still needed nearly six hours to top its range back up to 300 miles from nearly empty — something that takes him just minutes at the pump with his family SUV. Public charging stations may look like the electric version of the gas station, but nearly two-thirds of PEV drivers in the survey said they didn't use them. Exactly why they didn't use the public stalls was not specified. EVs have come a long way in recent years in terms of range, safety, comfort, and tech features, but Hardman and Tal note that very little has changed in terms of how they are recharged. "It should not be assumed that once a consumer purchases a PEV they will continue owning one," Hardman and Tal wrote. "What is clear is that this could slow PEV market growth and make reaching 100% PEV sales more difficult."
  2. So... do we think competition will destroy Tesla? I think competition will make for better Tesla products. I'm thinking(hoping) that they don't go away(very doubtful) or sold to a legacy automaker(lame - they do unique things that legacy automakers don't allow with their corporate structure). It will certainly be an interesting future with Tesla gaining competitors every month it seems.
  3. Absolutely. Don't forget about the Charger, which peaked in 2007.
  4. That definitely sounds like the PNW.
  5. Technically the Charger and Challenger have as well, if you're being technical about it.
  6. Yeah and MOST everybody still doesn't care how old the Model S is. They've gotten their refreshes on the outside, inside and underneath and people still love them. It's pretty old at this point but it certainly isn't slowing them down. I've said it here before that products need to stick around for a year or two(or longer) longer so these companies can amortize the costs, bank some extra cash, and it would likely help keep the end prices down a bit as they won't have to pay for more R&D. Instead of one major refresh on the same platform, make it a second refresh and keep essentially the same product around for another 3 years. Obviously, they know what they're doing and I'm just a nobody to them who isn't buying a new vehicle anyway but I feel like they'd all be a little more successful.
  7. And yet nobody cares because their sales are completely fine and the R&D has been paid for a decade ago. The Charger/Challenger HAVE to be one of the most profitable vehicles on the market. But they don't exactly handle very well compared to anything that's RWD. BUT, nobody cares. They handle well enough people still love'm.
  8. Max G's can just be accomplished with sticky tires. Max G's is a very small piece of a handling pie.
  9. I think I've already said that I don't believe they will go bankrupt. That doesn't mean those billionaires don't want to make more money off their shares by owing a profitable company instead of one that keeps needing cash to operate. Those who keep dumping cash in certainly aren't making money, they're hoping the company turns a profit so THEY can make money, too.
  10. Yes, you need to make a profit OR sell technology and/or the company. Bankruptcy isn't inevitable if you're not making a profit.
  11. Another one bites the dust...soon enough. https://www.autoblog.com/2021/06/14/lordstown-motors-ceo-cfo-resign-stock-price-falls/ "It is the latest setback for the company, which warned last week it might not have enough cash to fund development of its first truck or even survive the next 12 months if it can’t raise more capital. In March, the startup disclosed a Securities and Exchange Commission probe of its operations after a short seller said its technology was flawed and that preorders for its truck were nonbinding. Shares fell as much as 20% in premarket trading Monday. The stock was down 11% to $10.11 as of 7:55 a.m. in New York. In a separate statement, Lordstown said a board investigation concluded the company had made certain statements about vehicle preorders that did not hold up to scrutiny."
  12. I can't see them going bankrupt anytime soon but they probably need to start turning a profit here shortly, too.
  13. Maverick? FWD hybrid? I'd LOVE that kind of fuel economy but I'm worried it'll be dog-@ss slow to the point of annoyance trying to pass. Granted, I drive slow and am rarely passing anybody, I don't like not being able to pass on a 55mph road.
  14. They're up to $33,500!! ...of their $500,000 goal. One of their biggest hurdles will be the aftermarket though. Harley and everybody else already has a strong hold on the aftermarket and bike people LOVE to customize their bikes.
  15. I dig the wheel style but it's a good 2" too large.
  16. Interesting to read about what happened there. I'm not sure on the accuracy of this because of the age and I'm not sure what Ford REALLY ended up using but this said they didn't utilize the 9spd from GM. https://www.motortrend.com/news/ford-gm-nine-speed-transmission-shared-news/ " Several years ago, we reported that Ford and General Motors had agreed to work together on a pair of next-generation transmissions. GM was tasked with developing a nine-speed automatic for front-wheel-drive vehicles while Ford worked on a 10-speed for rear-drive applications. In theory, they'd be able to use the other's transmission and each save money. In reality, things went a little differently. Automotive News reports that while GM has been happy to use Ford's 10-speed in several vehicles such as the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Cadillac Escalade, Ford has yet to use GM's nine-speed. Instead, Ford developed a modified eight-speed version that will appear in the 2019 Focus, as well as several other 2019 models. It began work on two additional eight-speed automatics—one for performance use and one for smaller engines. The reason? GM's nine-speed didn't provide enough of a boost in fuel economy. "The small efficiency benefit did not justify the added weight and cost of an extra clutch and gear," a Ford spokesperson told Automotive News in a statement. "We've engineered our nine-speeds for even more refined shifts," a GM spokesperson told Automotive News in a statement. "Smaller steps between gears in a nine vs. an eight-speed enable smoother shifts for customers." "
  17. I know it doesn't matter but that first pic, the wheel is also on the curb... Regardless, I get your point, lol. @David, the 10spd is for RWD applications and their 8/9spd is for FWD applications. (I thought it was originally a 9spd co-developed with GM but I see them only using 8spd versions).
  18. I'd drive one of them. Fully loaded for like 35ish-k and it would do everything I need. The 4.5ft bed is short but I think payload would be just fine as most of the mid sizers(and even crew cab half tons) are in the 1500lb area code.
  19. And the 2.0T models. The CVT is hybrid-only.
  20. Yeah, that seems a little odd and I cannot see it lasting long if the owner utilizes the max payload/towing all that often.
  21. I'm sure there'll be a writeup here about it but here's the '22 Maverick.
  22. It doesn't even need a super-fat rear tire, just one that looks proportional to the rest of the bike. Also, I don't have much hopes this makes it to production. They basically have a "GoFundMe" going with $27,700 raised with a goal of $500,000. I know they almost certainly have private funding but still asking for money have me quite skeptical.. https://wefunder.com/zaiser.motors
  23. It's actually a pretty compelling bike but that rear tire sticks out like a sore thumb. It needs to be wider just for the sake of "presence". It has a wide/bubbly rear fender and a toothpick underneath.
