Exactly! I don’t care if ccap doesn’t like it or if anyone else does for that matter. It looked like nothing else (as opposed to the boringness of the Germans) which was a good thing IMO. It wasn’t meant to appeal to everyone and I’m fine with it. The Coupe was all of 2.5 inches shorter than the sedan. If you’re going to hate something with so much pointless vigor, at least get your facts right lol. At least it looks better than 3/4ths of the CUVs out there. Again I’m going to politely disagree with your wrong opinion.
-
I’m referring to the fact that the ATS base price went up in 2019 (by $3K). Yes to this (but I am little Wagon biased)! There is a pearl white 3.6L for sale near me and it’s killing me that I can’t pull the trigger on it right now (still on medical leave for my shoulder). The V Wagon is a definite bucket list car for me. Maybe one day lol.
-
In a 20 year timeframe occupied by cars like the Aztek, Smart, the Juke, and the entire Fiat lineup, I will respectfully disagree with that assessment lol. Oh I’m not disagreeing with that but the lack of variety sucks nonetheless.
-
Saw that. The one year price increase made no sense regardless of the packaging changes.
-
Yeah well I never said Cadillac was being logical about the ATS pricing lol. Still, $38K is a decent price for the CT5 regardless of its polarizing looks. The base price of the 2018 coupe was just north of $38K. Quirky sidenote: I’m one of the few people that actually like the last gen CTS coupe, fat ass and all. They should have continued it with the current CTS but alas, offering variety within each model seems to be a thing of the past these days.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Sales were not through the roof, by any means, but the assertion made by SMK was that others “failed” (even though the Slade was around for 2 generations) so it’s okay for Benz to give up on their vapor ware. The best or nothing. Now I get it lol. And again with the excuses by @smk4565 about what they have available. They are the largest truck maker in the world but nowhere in that huge parts bin of theirs are the parts for a simple pick up? LMAO at the endless excuses and deflection here!- 62 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Again, mmmkay dude. The Cadillac Escalade EXT actually did well (for what it was) but it was also not a full blown pick up. Once GM decided to scrap the Avalanche, there was no chance for the Caddy. Still did way better than Lincoln attempts and still better than the vapor ware attempt by Benz. I’m thinking that’s the only reason for your deflection. The domestics at least made an attempt (with some success by one of them) while the best or nothing said “we got nothing”. And that’s the point here. Mercedes could not even get it off the ground, even with a borrowed platform to work with. Make all the excuses you want regarding anyone else not sporting that Tri Star on the hood but facts are facts.- 62 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
@smk4565—Your top trim sales argument can be used against Mercedes as well. How many actual top trim Benzs are sold versus the pleather and plastic entry and base models of there’s. I’m willing to bet the top trim F150 percentage is higher than most Benzs out there. Again, they sell like hot cakes and I always see dozens of top trim models on various lots around. They wouldn’t keep getting them if they weren’t selling.- 62 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Mmmmkay dude. Whatever you say. For the record, truck prices have gone through the roof yet keep selling like hot cakes. Seems like some folks don’t mind paying $70K for a Ford or RAM. What is hilarious is that you compare that number against a vapor ware Benz pickup that would not have started anywhere near $70K. Just more of that imaginary pricing of yours with a hint of bar moving. Like you said, if they wanted to do it, they would. Alas, they can’t. In regards to Toyota, cars like the Camry and Corolla sell because of legendary reliability yet rank near the bottom in every comparison out there. In other words, they haven’t gone all in with those for years now meaning that “going all in” isn’t always the magic bullet towards cracking certain markets. To even bring a Camry up like it’s comparable to what’s going on with MERCEDES is laughable deflection on your part. Playing that fanboy card pretty hard today.- 62 replies

Just read earlier that the Cadillac CT5 price will start at $37,890. That’s cheaper than the base ATS and probably means that the CT4 will be just north of $30K if I had to guess.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Maybe you missed the part where I cared. The sales of most of them are dismal and they are utterly useless as CUVs. As as far as your truck maker remark, LMAO! We are not talking about box trucks, cab overs, etc.We are talking about PICK UPS and despite their moniker of being the largest truck maker in the world, Daimler can’t find a market for their dressed up Nissan, hence them dumping it. I mean, you said if Benz wanted to, they could yet they don’t because they can’t.- 62 replies

GM News: GM Shelves Diesel Option for Equinox and Terrain
surreal1272 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
The other part of that comparison mentioned that the TD Nox was $3800 higher than a similar equipped 1.5L model. Things like that had it doomed from the get go. The only small GM diesel vehicle worth a damn (to me) is the Colorado. While I would not own one, I got some time behind the wheel of one last year and it was very "punchy" (thank you torque) compared to the base four banger. Problem with that though was also the price. However, it stands a better chance of survival in the truck market because of its work use advantages. Diesels are wasted on things like the Nox and Cruze. -

surreal1272 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
What is also being ignored is the dismal performance of the Diesel when compared to the 2.0T. This has been remarked in almost every review of the Diesel. Here’s a snippet from the C&D review (and a common theme with most reviews of it). Likes: Gutsy optional 2.0T engine, athletic handling for a crossover, great steering. Dislikes: Lethargic 1.5T and diesel engines, harsh ride on large optional wheels. And another snippet from MT. At the track, the 2018 Equinox TD hit 60 mph in 9.0 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 16.9 seconds at 81 mph, which is on the slower side of the segment. It didn’t help matters that it was saddled with the pathetic six speed instead of the 9 speed in the 2.0. -

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
“Never a big fan”. Your posts about it when it was announced two years ago would suggest otherwise. Your assurance that they could still do a Freightliner style pick up also supports this (which btw is laughable).- 62 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out

Yup although surely he wasn’t talking about Daimler. They can do anything, except build and market their own pick up, of course. Corrected for fat thumbs on the phone.- 62 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Their target market for the X-Class was not Europe. They were gunning for the Asia and South American market that the Navara was occupying. Mercedes just couldn’t pull it off. And the Frontier does not such thing. For the year, the Frontier has sold 39K units while the Colorado alone has sold 65K. On what planet is that better sales for the Frontier? The Ranger has sold 30K but hasn’t been on sale everywhere very long.- 62 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes X-Class to be Xed Out
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Oh the excuses we will hear lol. The best or nothing still can’t solve the “lowly” pick up market without borrowing someone else’s truck and still can’t figure that out. I seem to recall this type of scenario playing out when this overdressed Nissan was first announced.- 62 replies

Corrected above.

The Fusion is up because they are basically sire selling them. Aside from that, they were not as profit heavy as their CUVs and not in as much demand overall, hence going bye bye. Quit trying to throw out phantom criticism when the reasons for it going away were pretty obvious.

Lincoln News: 2020 Lincoln Navigator Gets Tech and Style Updates
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lincoln
You literally missed the point to try and flip the narrative. Fact, 66% of Lincoln sales have come from NEW buyers which, last time I checked, was a good thing. Your screen grab from CARMAX means absolutely nothing. That’s just for CARMAX and nothing else. You have to be pretty desperate to reference that for anything. Referencing Edmonds is also spotty at best because their rankings are over the map from year to year. I did read that for 2018, not one Mercedes model occupied the best of any thing while even Cadillac snagged one (for the Escalade). https://www.edmunds.com/industry/press/toyota-and-porsche-take-home-brand-level-honors-in-the-edmunds-2018-best-retained-value-awards.html -

Love how you try to flip the number to bash yet another domestic brand. Meanwhile 66% of their buyers are coming from elsewhere like your local Mercedes, BMW, or Cadillac dealership. -
GM News: GM Shelves Diesel Option for Equinox and Terrain
surreal1272 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
14 years ago, when I was driving a AAA tow truck, I towed two Camrys on the same day for the very same thing. Both drivers somehow put Diesel into their gas tanks and naturally both cars shut down after about twenty feet. There are stupid people everywhere, is my point here. -

surreal1272 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
And? The rated MPGs are 28 City/38 Highway. Real world tests will always vary and you missed the point entirely. Riviera covered part of my point pretty well. We will just skip the C&D part of the review where they were critical of its lethargic operation. -
GM News: GM Shelves Diesel Option for Equinox and Terrain

It’s gets 28 MPG city which is where most soccer moms use them, making it not so great when you factor in the extra fuels costs of diesel.
