I thought it was time for some story time. For little children. Like me. I'm sure when gasoline cars were recognized for what they were going to become during the post-war boom after the WW1...there was a National imperative, hell government mandate to expand infrastructure for the car, and other mechanical horse driven vehicles. Heck, the tractors and anything with wheels powered by gasoline is a cousin to the car. A bus is like a land dinosaur, family-tree analogy wise. The first plane by the wright bros... it's like the weakling dinosaur-birdies. Huge ass A380s are like Kaijus. You know, I see these insurance commercials from Bel Air... and it ends like "you trapped a 100 horses in there? You monster, I'll save you mighty steeds!!!" Cars are mechanical horses. Tractors, mechanical oxen. Those horses love to drink gasoline, engine oil... they can consume people and spit out carbon dioxide among other gases they fart, $h! people out as well, as well as other junk that comes with those people. The finest breed of cars like the royalties, must be kept purebred, which is why RR only has one descendant, Bentley. However, for some reason, those at the very top are interbreeding with somewhat lower stature mechanical horses. Cadillac and Lincolns at first were also purebred. But then they interbreed-ed with the wrong mechanical horses, and lost their pedigree. BMW is currently inbreeding. Mercedes is currently evolving, this subset of horses has so many variants. Some are of pedigree. Others have become inbred with a weaker family tree, and are now mongrels. Cadillac devolved, but now like a horse family put to hard work, multiple generations of being trained... about halfway or so back, is showing signs of becoming one of the finest once more. etc...etc... Electric cars derive nourishment on basically the equivalent like cow's rumination chambers which they have like 4 or 5 something (akin to cells). Electric horses need many more cells though. Hundreds, thousands. Well, there are in some breeds a lot of electric horses, and they are thirsty. In them a chemical reaction happens that adds energy to electrons to make them flow. Man has figured out how to reverse what the rumination chambers aka "cells" do, by putting back energy that was either transferred more directly to cells via solar energy being harnessed very inefficiently by photovoltaics, then to another mega battery, or indirectly by oxidizing other dead dinosaurs very rapidly such so they release energy in huge "stomachs" that heat up water being digested that is farted at high pressure to some blowing fans that then create a magnetic field which creates a flow of electrons. The first EV's way back when were a branch of the mechanical horses, like chimpanzees to gorillas. However, they could not adapt to the upcoming feeding that mechanical horses would have on the torrent of either fermented, pressed, and aromatic variants of deads dinosaurs. Electrics horses were killed off or just lost habitat like the homo sapien to the Neanderthal. So electric horses died out almost completely. They would live on, barely, either hibernate in museums or plant dormant seeds to perhaps reclaim themselves when the adaptations were right. But suddenly, in just 100 years or so, the mechanical horses...unbeknownst to them - the parasites that control them - humans - are aware the feeding will end - either by nature or by force. Because some of the parasites have changed their own adaptation to survive. Kinda like how SIV is related to HIV. They believe that some want to live off of electric horses, and they believe electric horses have an advantage. While dead dinosaurs can finally satiate the electric horses indiretctly, there is the potential that one day the parasites can feed their horses to live off of the flow of water, wind and collect the energy imparted to the photons of the Sun itself. The Sun is a gold mine, far more plentiful than dead dinosaur. And the electrics horses themselves? Why are they coming back? Well the so called 'intelligent' parasites would like to think that nature makes adaptations, it evolves, sometimes to progress, sometimes to devolve. Perhaps nature wanted the mechanical horses to have their moment - just prove to the parasites that mechanical horses may one day themselves have to evolve, and they did, when they spawned the first electric horse, the first flying horses. They were weak, but they held promise.

We don't know what's going to happen. But governments are on board, and civil servants like the LAPD are too happy to oblige. But now it's up to them to figure out why the hell they couldn't consider the much better alternatives available from the home team, or since it's only a lease, consider vehicles like hybrids, because they reduce carbon footprints too.

It's gonna fly off the lots. Interesting. As long as GM exports more vehicles to China than importing here, with higher ATPs being sent there....good enough. Same with any other company that's domestic.

Community Outreach? That can be done on bicycles!!l Unlike an EV you have unlimited range....and these are for primarily city use, will be beaten up. So plenty of CF body repairs that will be expensive too. If they wanted community outreach, they should've picked an American Hybrid sedan or Volt for far less. And if they need space, get the goddamn Pacifica Minivan Hybrid. Sure it might cost a fair bit more, but you get the utility you want too. The i3's back seat is as spacious as at back seat of a sports sedan, its only virtue being some decent headroom.

Yeah, there's not a whole lot of ground that isn't shared between the Spark and Sonic...though the Sonic feels like a vehicle a class above, and the Cruze feels like a midsizer...the Impala, well actually it feels like a class above luxo wise in LTZ but a class smaller in terms of handling. Ford will probably get rid of Taurus when they can't sell it to rent-a-cars no more or other kinds of fleets. Besides, the Fusion is what the Taurus used to be, heck it is the successor to the Taurus, and the new one is just a name slapped on a Ford branded large sedan slug.- 23 replies

I know...and I respect your opinions, but to me the Bolt is a wagon. A great wagon tho. But not in the traditional sense. Too tall to be a traditional hatch like Focus, Elantra, Cruze, Mazda 3 hatches... too car-like small to be a crossover...too big to be a compact car...reasonable cargo space, buttoned down like a sedan....it's a wagon in the new sense, and some somewhere, like the writer of the article kinda can agree, but not the dictionary definition!!! Besides...all wagons have a hatch...in a back...junk in the trump therefore are hatchback'd. But not hatchbacks.

I know the Bolt does not look anything like a wagon.... But....There's nothing else I can classify it as. I like the the new Hyundai Tucson...it looks good outside. Then there's the Ford Escape Sport Appearance package. I also like the way the new GLC looks, the Explorer Platinum, and the GMC Terrain pre-refresh exteriors. And then my favorite new crossover inside and out is the Lincoln MKX Black Label "Thoroughbred" interior and Black tie exterior. I love the Wood trim they use there. Damn good wood. But in terms of design purity, cohesion, and originality that will be missed dearly, this red Lincoln MKX takes the cake for me.- 23 replies

I think the Kia Niro is going to be right on that spot. Remember the Chevy Orlando concept? The production vehicle is a joke. I think the Volt could have been even more appealing for the space-concious if it was actually a taller evolution of the previous generation with the flat greenhouse that doesn't rise, and a hatch instead of the liftback. Even if it hurt the 53 mile electric range.

VW is in a roCk and a hard place. If they build Camcord rivals, they are not faithful to enthusiasts - their sales of the Jetta and Passat peaked and with dieselgate have fallen off. If they sell more of their Euro models here...with all of the options available from there, here...then they are bona fide Audi competitors, yet with a smaller target market for VW in general, and a lower price point...they become redudant and useless. I think they have to do what GM/Ford now do with global model lines. They are almost completely identical, but change trims and specifications for the separate markets. I think they have managed to raise awareness with Americans that their Jetta and Passat can be decent sellers and are now sensibly sized to have a chance.- 19 replies

Well it's not a permanent kind of deal. But right now...wagons aren't even being considered for Europe...because estate sales are evaporating towards you guessed it...Crossovers. Not only that...the Ford Mondeo and the Passat Estate variants are being pushed upmarket to try to be a value play against German Wagons. Even Jaguar is reconsidering their wagon strategy. Then there's the Subaru Outback. The funny thing is, it's as tall as the new Sorento, longer...but it's raised ride height, sloped rear hatch, lack of third row...fools us into thinking it's a wagon-esque vehicle...which Audi had their Alltracks that are very similar, but smaller. If wagons are to make a comeback, they are not going to return as we imagine them. They will become more impractical actually or more stylized or like this Mercedes - a heritage kind of deal.. with oddly enough crossover styling cues to hint at the familial sense of practicality.. and with no emerging demographic proof...as in millennials deciding to want them. And Mercedes is one of the few, along with Volvo to market wagons (which are also sacrificing function over form...) it sets up too many premium connotations. And then some sedans are becoming just something different. Look at the incoming Model 3. I looks like a mishmash of the Model S and Model X. But you don't end up with a wagon...or a hatchback. You get a tall mail-slot style trunk. I'd consider a Chevy Bolt a wagon, because it isn't a compact hatch or a crossover. Yeah.

The Accord is fairly quiet. So is the Pilot. Might as well mention the new Ridgeline. The new Civic is quieter than the last one, so there it's improved. But you get in the Civic, it's just a larger car too. It's packaging is still one step ahead of GM. So they're equals, and in that case if you want value, well I think the Honda and Cruze are neck and neck, and GM is trying to raise residual values by reducing fleet. -
There are some segments truly worth not chasing. Mercedes has this vehicle here because they're probably special order only.

Well it's not VW that wants to rebadge itself here, it's some auto researcher that said that it would be a good exit strategy. IT is not VW. Remember - these decisions are not just for the U.S. market. This might be a Euro-special and China special first. But again... they are still considering it...however it may appear maddening Besides, Cadillac did the same thing with the new CTS...they made it bigger, right? Well, I think it'll come down to this really. Automakers have a lot of niche models now to cater to multiple buyers. How much duplication is there possible before it just isn't feasible? Almost every car and truck will by hybridized by the end of the next decade for sure.

Well, the greenshouse reminds me of the R-class, not in a good way. And then the rear-end is the GLC rear squished vertically and then slapped on. The front end, well, it is an E-Class variant after all. However, the available interior for the most part looks stand-out, except why the hell is there shiny black plastic on the centre console trim? First, it looks out of place, just doesn't mesh well and second, it reminds me of Cadillac - and I don't like it there either, but they've reduced it a lot. I think it's a decent detractor to the otherwise very well done but obviously Designo or other high trim option interior shown in the press images. I think they should have, like the C-Class placed more wood trim in that section instead. However, it looks the way it looks, because that's the way all current Mercedes models look. Which is the formula used unrelentingly by every luxury brand these days.

The Honda CR-V was just as cheapened as the 2012 Civic, except since it was a roomy crossover, many things were overlooked. However. The updated CR-v was a Motortrend of the Year winner. I have a hard time believing on any measure that the Patriot is any value close to that distinction, as well Hondas have typically the best resale values out there of any make. And even if Compatriot users use their vehicles off-road, it's just a fraction of the fraction of the population who buys CUVs, and more than anything people might take the Jeep off-road because it's a Jeep - and it's rather affordable. Though Honda's mainstream AWD is among the least reactive to sending power rear in limited slip situations.- 39 replies
