  1. Actually, the more I look at it, the more I like it. The grille is more like the concept Audi had a year ago. If the A6 is a longer version of this, but even better interior.... Tough to imagine how this A5 isn't the best car in its class now, it seems very well rounded (not rounded like before tho).
  2. In 40-50 years with the roads crumbling, and the world toxic and polluted, misery everywhere, I'm pretty sure cars of all type will be either reserved for the elite or banned altogether.
  3. Hey maybe they have a supplier shortage - like they said about the Japanese earthquakes - which would affect many automakers, and may explain a lot of declines seen in many automakers. Toyota actually had a steel plant explosion - not related to the earthquakes tho.
  4. To me, the entire Audi brand reminds me of this character from this anime. Aloof, cold, calculating...flithy rich, and nefarious, scheming, and egotistical. But that's a nice interior, perhaps not flashy like the C-Class, but definitely luxo, with the best in class infotainment, especially virtual cockpit, that's real nice. The exterior, is...it's another car to see in person, it also lost weight too, so there's that. And honestly, the ATS's weight advanatge has evaporated over the years. Maybe updated Alpha will do even more with the Omega tech, but right now, the ball is right back in Germany's court for the compact luxury sedan segment, where BMW is floundering, Mercedes and Audi look to fill the gap*, with Cadillac facing real competition. *being overpriced many time of course.
  5. Yupp. The plebes are not gearheads - but they like the idea of being one, and then stop giving a f*** when they find out what it actually means and what they have to either pay for or lose. Glad it took so long to figure out.

Tesla would be making very decent returns if they weren't hell bent on increasing their production of vehicles five-fold in just two years, or building a supercharger network or building a gigafactory. Tesla is not supposed to be making a profit until it cools down, and becomes a stable business that isn't going through huge spurts of growth. So take that away, yes electric cars are right now not profitable. Why? Because the manufacturing base isn't there for it just yet, and automakers have too much vested into their conventional nameplates yet still.

  8. Hybrid electric vehicle, plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, battery electric vehicle. PHEV - not to be confused with PZEV - Partial Zero-Emmissions Vehicle. Which leads me to ask....how the f*** do make a vehicle that can be classified as only "partially" zero emissions compliant? Either you are or you are not.

There's nothing really noteworthy as to why the Mustang might be sought after by fleets, but regardless - it's just slightly more practical, and GM probably wants no part of the fleet sales, and is willing to forgo a fair bit of revenue, and as we've seen even profits to do so. And no - Drew said that the Mustangs he sees are often actually the premium models with leather and EcoBoost. So the V6 may be the trim aimed at the fleet customer, but they're not tied to it. But I think Mustang retail sales are still higher than Camaro. But these vehicles are just such a small part of the company's business, I don't think their contribution to profit is nearly as high as any other model line, especially any crossover or truck. And remember, Ford had done a good chunk of fleet deliveries earlier this year.

  11. Not that really. I think it's more of a prevailing demographics issue. The GEN X'ers have less money than boomers. And Gen Y has less purchasing power than when boomers were of the same age back then. And then the disinterest in motor vehicles.... sales are going to down. And it's going to strike fast and hard.
  12. Close to the same price point across the range, except the V Models. The XT5 had a great start, though it didn't quite cover the decline of the SRX - probably supply being a HUGE issue. But I think the car biz has now peaked for the time being.

  14. Toyota is very capable of building a great set of underpinnings for their vehicles. It's just that for some reason their top brass is ultra conservative, are reactionary to the market now - and they figure what works for their customers - basically incremental improvement over revolutions is what works for them as well
  15. I think SATA needs to be abandoned. But yeah. it's tiny as hell. Now Samsung might put this in their next phones. Download all the 4K PR0N. All of it. VR compatability.
  16. I think their 5 year standard warranty and maintenance plan ought to be quite a lot of reassurance for leasees.
  17. Terrain and Nox seem a bit surprising, given the market. Perhaps a combination of reduced fleet sales and some showing of age is hurting them.

  19. Yeah, for laptops, the SSD's make a lot of sense. But for PC's I would still use WD Black's or enterprise editions or other mfg equivalents for long term data storage
  20. One thing though.... the problem with Solid state drives is still their reliability over the long term. Okay...no moving parts, but the memory cores/thingamajiggers.....they degrade over time, they have a finite number of uses. A HDD with the platters and magnetic head can be rewritten an infinite number of times without degrading it.
  21. So they basically want to take a 6 Series Gran Coupe, call it an 8 Series Gran Coupe, improve it's interior from the 6 Series level to 7 Series... and probably tack on another $100,000 to the price of the vehicle. Huh....
  22. Yeah, that's not at all what I was alluding to. Mercedes knew quite well EV about obsolescence, but they still want the damn thing to sell. BECAUSE MERCEDES WANTS TO WIN IN EVERY SEGMENT, RIGHT?!!! Unless it's something they cannot achieve all-day, everyday, all the time, everytime.
  23. Something interesting is that the 500X is probably the most compelling Fiat, and it's sales did not overcome the losses in the other two models.
  24. The CLA is Mercedes weakest link. GUDBAHYE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! But for a Verano and CLA. You end up asking the same question. Is that a Buick? Is that a Mercedes? For the former, Buick qualities were effectively shruken into a compelling small sedan package. For the latter. the simple presence of the 3 pointed star and some family styling is what made it viable. Now, the CLA just had some horrible recent sales, you never know, it might get canned as well. Ultimately the Verano did leave a positive impression, and while even I think they should bring over the Verano - perhaps change it a bit like how the Cruze is different from the Cruze's from the rest of the world...they do have a few reasons for not bringing it stateside, however head-scratchin' they might induce.
  25. Well, then perhaps it comes down to the fact that Pony car buyers aren't the gearheads we expect them to be. And that performance, while great for a halo car....isn't always the top thing people have in mind even for a two-door, relatively high power car. Also, I think if you are buying a Pony car for the experience, the heritage, the image, neither of the 3 actually compete on the same turf for the same image. And then when it comes to the drive. For a lay person, you still have to drive to a certain degree to truly expose how the Camaro is more advanced, and is less a pony car and more a sports car. The Challenger is the old badass. The Mustang is the Pony car for all of the world. And the Camaro is a transformer - something the movie studios realize there is an insatiable appetite for.
