  1. I agree. This opinion, for me, would apply to most any new vehicle purchase.
  2. While recalls can be concerning, I would rather a manufacturer be proactive about it than not. Understandably, the recent news on the Fusion recalls are not for "minor" issues. However, they also are limited in their instances. What I would rather than "smarter" being the primary improvements is a focus more on keeping the Fusion around and keeping it as one of the more pleasing from a driving dynamics standpoint. I would imagine sales these days are centered around gadgetry etc and we won't be driving cars soon enough as it is... but while we are still "tilling the wheel" I would hope we could enjoy the process more and more.
  3. I, for one, think that the Continental is worth the money they are asking. I also think that it does what Lincoln designed it to do.... bring back American luxury in a modern way. That doesn't necessarily mean that it will workout from a sales perspective. The segment is shrinking and the marketing (beyond to most people that are not into cars) has been limited. The Navigator, on the same philosophy, is doing quite well. There certainly has been more of a marketing effort for it, but it is in a more stable segment for sales. Why would I pick the Continental over anything European or a Cadillac? Because for the money, the Continental would check off every box I would be looking for. I do not need or want all out performance in a full size (even though this is barely a full size car) sedan. It looks better, to me, than almost anything else. The Germans just don't style cars well to my eye and haven't since the 90's. It is an American car. The only other car I would seriously consider would be the Volvo.
  4. I would like the opportunity to drive one of these (not kidding). I really like the big brother Transit. I use them every once in a while as a rental. I like the styling updates very much!
  5. I have actually been waiting for a more minimalist interior on modern vehicles. I do not like how "busy" interiors have become. I agree that there should be less hard plastic surfaces that appear to be more prevalent, but I can live with that here. I would even be in favor of even more removal of "clutter".
  6. I will agree with that. But, I have a good deal of experience with the EB engine. I have put many miles one a few EB panel vans that a company I work with rents (we go through Penske and get trucks weekly). While it is true that if you dig into the go pedal like you are trying to win every stoplight race, you will get V8 comparable mileage. However, there is no way I can get as good of mpg's from the V8 trucks we primarily get from them (whether they be Ford or GM), when I drive more conservatively. It isn't even close. And the power delivery is as good or better than the V8's I drive from either make. But yes, I would have been happier personally, if Ford would have gone with the moniker "TwinForce" for the EB (like they contemplated using in Lincoln EB models) engined vehicles across all lines. They could have still have mentioned the mileage gains but emphasized the power factor primarily.
  7. I won't argue with the above. And, Scout, I am not enamored with the name EcoSport either, but at least Ford didn't resurrect the name Probe! P.S. I owned two Probes for full disclosure, and really liked both, but the name is ripe for ridicule? Lol
  8. As much a Ford guy as I am, I couldn't agree more that they have been a little off on some of their marketing. That said, my interest was piqued here! Since I doubt they will (and I certainly could be wrong) user an ST name for the Ranger, I would think it may be for the upcoming EcoSport...?
  9. I am pleased and hope they continue the trend of applying names to each of their vehicles...... and also continue to improve each platform to be worthy of each name.
  10. Haha, yeah sometimes it is just a 'thing' we have for a product or brand. It took me a long time (decades) to get over my anti GM bias. I still do not favor a GM over a Ford model, but I can appreciate the vehicles they make now. Except for Camaros! They will always be crap! (At least in comparison to the almighty Mustang)..….... hahahahahaha
  11. I have to ask..... i sense there is some antipathy towards the modern Fords ( LOL).... it would make me think there may have been a clunker or two Blue Ovals in your past? Either that or a Transit van up and insulted your Mom or something....? What gives, AHWNN?
  12. I do like the exterior styling of the Escalade in this current generation. I was not really enamored with it before. The interior isn't bad either, in fact I would rather it above average. There are things about the new Navigator I have really been impressed with from an exterior perspective and some others I want to see in person before passing final judgement. The interior is the best thing I have seen in a large SUV. Period. When any competitor names their rival by name and backs it up with paying money to limit sales loss it is a huge compliment to that product. So, I would assume the Navigator is all that and the proverbial bad of chips!
  13. While I know that EV and maybe even other modes of propulsion are coming into 'vogue', and they have some advantages....... it isn't as if there aren't drawbacks. The ecological damage of mining the various elements needed for the batteries of an EV are a tremendous concern most still don't acknowledge. No to mention the manner in which the energy to 'fuel' the EV vehicles are produced. I am not one to say that internal combustion is the only way to propel automobiles, but EV's etc. are not without fault(s).
  14. Instead of taking the time to post a reply with my own thoughts, I will just quote oh442 here. He puts it into words fairly well what I was thinking, except the really inane and useless stuff (I will leave it to the reader as to what that is... even though it is plainly obvious). LMAO A little ribbing and jesting...... oh442 should get why........ But truly, what is written is spot on to what my input would have been.
  15. I would give you more Upvotes if I could, Balthazar!!! Late 50's Buick's are sweet!
  16. Well, I saw this car a while back and then again recently. It takes the much maligned Mustang II to a "better place" and then some! Triton V10 Engine - Beautiful Custom Manifold -- Rear Mounted 6 Speed Trans -- Custom Interior -- Custom Wide Body Exterior I like this one...... quite a bit! Link to an article on the car: http://www.stangtv.com/news/mustang-evolution-the-ultimate-mustang-ii/ I had seen this one before and even being the Blue Oval biased that I am, it is definitely a stunner!!!
  17. I will say ditto to pretty much what dfelt wrote. Nothing too exciting and it is a Toyota, soooooo..... unless you get in the "Wayback" machine a few decades, you are getting a competent and either poorly styled or. at the very least, mundane looking vehicle. And this Highlander is all of that and the proverbial "bag o' chips".
  18. Seems to be a lot of antipathy for the UAW on here... And it isn't as if I have any particular 'love' for them either. However, maybe I have mellowed in my elder years. I do think this is the move of a 'dying' enterprise. The union is possibly using this as a tactic to garner the attention of the public of the plight of North American (in this case Canada) manufacturing. It won't work, but they will try nonetheless.
  19. That does seem like a lot of dough for an underpowered and small CUV.... actually surprising considering. Maybe Hyundai feels it has moved up enough in the minds of buyers that they don't need to economically priced in these market segments anymore....?
  20. The local Hyundai dealer to me is what makes this info most interesting. In my humble opinion (and a lot of people that have actually been customers there), they are the biggest bunch of thieves in the business. In fact, when a Ford dealer I was working for was sold to the group that also runs that dealership *and this was admittedly over 10 years ago), I could only stand working there for 6 weeks. I felt terrible every day leaving. And after the sales manager ruined about 4 deals (not my words, but the words of the customers that got up and to the person said I would have bought from you, but not this dealership).... I knew it was time to go. I wonder if they will be "happy" to hear about this?
  21. I have moderated my fairly vindictive stance on unions and the UAW in particular over the years. I have worked with union leaders that I felt confident were working as well as they could with the company and for their workers, and some that have not. It's a tough call..... Let's hope the result works well for the most involved and not just the powers that be on either side.
  22. Not knowing the details of the negotiations, I will abstain from speaking in favor for or against either side. However, even though I know it is normal 'union speak' to use phrases like, "We put our best foot forward, and we don’t believe the company is serious about our membership’s demands", still irks me. Why it irks me is that I don't believe, in full, either side of that statement. I don't believe the union put their 'best foot forward' and I don't think GM didn't take them seriously. I just think both sides need to stop talking to the press and get back to negotiations. Or, moving production, whether it be the 'right' thing to do (from the worker's at CAMI's perspective) may just be what happens.... especially if GM has other facilities that can make up the slack as suggested.
  23. Nah, you are going too clinical and smart for me, dfelt. I was referring to the second to last sentence in my post. The answer: Genesis is a band whose lead singer is Phil Collins. Phil Collins released an album entitled "Face Value". Now I feel stupid for writing that question because in retrospect, it was frivolous and inane and had nothing to do with the main article! LOL
