  1. There are good points to what he says and also an admission as to why the Genesis cars may always be at the lower end of the scale in the luxury segment. Not that I am or would have Genesis at the top of my list for purchase, I would consider it now if I would take what he says at Face Value.... and if someone can tell me why the last sentence has three words in it that have a relation to each other (like a "six degrees of separation' type deal) outside of car talk, you get bonus points...

    2018 Volvo XC40

I like what I see out of Volvo these days. Great styling both inside and out!
  3. Well, it is the new wave. I do hope, however, that manufacturers continue to improve on the internal combustion engine as there is still a lot to like their. If I was to own a car that was an EV or hybrid... I would favor the hybrid. I suppose that is the best of both worlds, as it were.
  4. HEY I AM A FAN-MAN!!!!! Yay!!!! ...................Awww crap! Wish I was still a fan-Boy!
  5. No worries, DD. I was not necessarily attempting to refute your assertions about Ford's EcoBoost and throttle application to turbo boost. The basis for the twin turbos to begin with (from my understanding) was to have at least the smaller turbo 'on' as to minimize lag. I suppose I was attempting to say that my 'real world' experience with the EB motor's has been rather good. And in my own usage I would opt for an EB over even the 5.0 in most cases. Don't misunderstand me either, I know that if you dig into the gas pedal with the EB's, mileage will suffer dramatically..... maybe even more so than in a V8....? Definitely a lot of influence from the A Pillar forward.
  6. Even the Mustang guy in me can say the same.... it is a beast.
  7. Engage 'Ludicrous' mode and get that casket to the cemetery....... "STAT!!!!".
  8. Well, it was early July when I helped a friend buy a Golf Sportwagon. Very good car for the money. There were other reasons beyond the pricing, but I can see why VW is starting to see a rebound in sales.
  9. Wow, cars are just getting led to the slaughter it would seem! Will be looking elsewhere to see what other brands are doing, but not a rosy picture here for Ford other than their more profitable trucks are holding the line.
  10. That rear platform where the 5th wheel hookup is would certainly seem to me to be a perfect place for the battery pack(s).
  11. Good all around review. To be sure, after the initial surge of TV ad's put out by Kia I had forgotten about this vehicle. It is hard for me as a resident of the Northeast to get too excited about a utility vehicle that doesn't offer AWD (regardless of whether it is a hybrid or not), but I am sure many may not have that particular pet peeve. It looks ok, but the pricing seems a bit below average which, I suppose, should be expected out of Kia.
  12. No doubt on both! Both the last Marauder and the Caprice bodied Impala SS are spot on "Q-Ship" sleepers! I remember the Blazer SS slightly.... but I have no doubt it could boogie down the road!!!
  13. This may in fact be anecdotal, but there is a gentleman that bought a 2.7 F150 (a '16 XTS model) that I work with. He mainly uses it to tow, as a matter of fact. By "tow" I am referring to mostly using it to tow with a 12' trailer and hauling scrap metal (a side business for him) and he also uses it for another side business of collecting clothing for a clothing recycling business. The trailer is attached to his truck more than 50% of the time (if not more than 75%). With the trailer and the metal or clothing he is usually pulling between 3000 and 5000 lbs total (my guess with the trailer itself and the material on board). His previous truck was a 10 or 12 year old Nissan Titan that he traded in for the Ford, where the Nissan had over 200,000 miles. Now to the 'meat' of why this may be germane..... he definitely drives with a very 'light' go pedal foot. He does not accelerate fast at all (unless necessary, of course) as he wants to get the mileage and he wants his trucks to hold up long term. I just asked him what he averages in fuel mileage with this truck and he said in the 18 mpg range. With the Titan (and he drove very similarly with that truck too which is one of the reasons he was able to make that truck last as long) he said 10 mpg was about the best he could average, with 8-9 mpg being more realistic. And having experience with the 3.5 motor in the new Ford E vans, as I have used them for the clothing business myself (I volunteer my services as the business is run by a very good friend of mine, and this is how I met the gentleman I am describing).... I know no matter how light on the gas pedal I am with the V8's in the other Ford's I have driven or the GM's, as well, I can never hope to get near the 18-20 mpgs I can get with the 3.5 in the EcoBoost E vans (again, with a very light foot on the gas pedal when accelerating). That's it. I know, it is somewhat anecdotal... but, there is no way I would not opt for a smaller displacement turbo V6 as opposed to a bigger V8, in a truck.... unless I knew I was going to be hauling a LOT of weight consistently.
  14. I thought so.... I did buy a '99 Mystique in '01 and had that for a few years. I am of pretty generous proportions and still found it comfortable and a fairly competent handling car in less than SVO guise.
  15. The E36 M3 for when you can't afford that, but you DO know how to use your turn signals! The 1999 Ford Contour SVO
  16. I read the article and I can understand their opinion about the Raptor if indeed that was their experience. However, when it came time to pick a truck to race ahead of the group to try to get to their restaurant reservations (if memory serves), they seemed to have chosen the Raptor. If it had been that tough to handle I would assume they would have picked one of the other trucks. I don't know which of the three I would buy, given the opportunity. My Ford bias says Raptor, but I will not dismiss the other two out of hand... they are fantastic trucks, apparently.
  17. No new car of any performance persuasion needs a manual transmission. Yes, the new autos can do a fine job of getting the most power to the pavement , etc. and so on. Heck, even Ferrari does not offer a true manual. That does not mean it is not a mistake on Toyota's part for (possibly) not offering one. But since I am the opposite of a Toyota fan, I am not going to be disappointed. P.S. For full disclosure, my first car was a '79 Celica GT. A terribly unreliable car.... and virtually every Toyota I have driven since has been (in my opinion) quite below the segment leader (from the Corolla right up to the Lexus LS).
  18. Thanks, yeah I think the Golf was a very good choice for her too. And she seems to be enjoying it so far. I am not surprised they enlarged the new Tiguan. The last model surprised me with how small the cargo area in the back was. I may have to go back and see the new one now!
  19. So much not to be happy about here. Truck sales are holding steady, though....
  20. Was just looking at Tiguans last month.... for a friend. We needed to get something with a bunch of incentives because her old car was buried in negative equity. VW had some decent money. Ended up with the Golf Alltrack instead of the Tiguan. Not that it would have helped, but how in the heck did they get a 3rd row of seats in what was (in the 2017's we looked at) a very small back cargo area? Rear-facing? Also, the 2.0 that she drove was not bad. But the rated mpg's coupled with just adequate power was what made it a terrible choice in my opinion. The 1.8 in the Golf Alltrack was rated much better and it moved the car as well as the 2.0 in the Tiguan, from my seat of the pants perception on the test drive. If it weren't for the Golf Alltrack, she would have possibly bought something other than a VW.
  21. Lincoln keeps moving forward all tolled. That bodes well for the future. A client of mine is considering a Continental (he is a Volvo/Euro guy, but the Conti seems to have him intrigued.... without my prodding either) and the general agent in my office purchased an MKC a month ago.... The MKC replaced his Aviator(!) after 13 years of faithful service, and he (and his wife for whom he got it for) are very pleased.
  22. I agree that the price disparity may be holding the Continental back some. But, if and unless Lincoln builds another Town Car like sedan, the Continental is trying to be all to the most people it can be. I don't know if it will work, but hopefully it can shoulder the load because I really really like the Conti.... a lot! And I do hope it is successful enough to spawn a larger and even more audacious American luxury car (like a new Town Car). But, I have seen both the new Continental and CT6 and I will have to say that the Euro's and Japanese makers have something to e nervous about!
