Got a chance to drive a base FWD 2.0 Ecoboost Edge. Let me just sum it quick. It keeps all the size, space, driving position plusses that makes the Edge popular. The new interior is light years more attractive, has way better quality, and is more functional. The new steering wheel has great layout with its buttons to control nearly everything on the vehicle. The Edge drives quieter and tighter now. Not any more sporty, but it does feel lots less junky than the first gen. Really this review is based on the engine......people say it's underpowered in the Explorer etc. Here is what i found........seems like a wee bit underpowered, but the power delivery is liquid smooth and the engine is smooth top to bottom. From a dead stop, the take off is a lot better than roll on. In fact, what is strange is that there is a little turbo lag (that doesn't really feel like turbo lag per 'se) and a delay in tranny aggressiveness....that it almost feels CVT like in some ways. Floor the gas in the roll on condition, and the rpm climbs to 4 or 5 thousand rpm and it seems like there is overall wait for the acceleration to kick in. There isn't really any engine drone....it's liquid smooth. And cabin noise is very quiet. It just has a power delivery like you may have sampled on a lot of small displacement Euro cars. The rpm goes up, no drama, the engine is smooth, there are just no bursts in power. Then, likewise, you are cruising 70-80 mph without noticing. And it's totally smooth. As a daily driver with a lot of stoplights and if you like acceleration, you'd want to stick with the v6. But I could see where for many folks this engine would be adequate in power and a delight in running characeteristics. If you never saw a turbo badge, you'd have NO idea it was a turbo underhood. The package of the Edge is winning. Size, space, driving position, interior ambience.......only the slight pokiness of the ecoboost knocks it off the A perch (and most folks won't care). B+. If the Ecoboost was a 2.3 and had another 30hp/tq I think it would be a solid A. 2.3 AWD ecoboost Edge with 300 pounds less would be perfect. Cool storage space in front of the front face of the console is clever (new Fusion will have also).

is there a way to capture their facebook or google plus id and have them post using that? then at least we can identify the douches.

Interactive Review: 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI SE
regfootball replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Reviews
when i drove one (and it's in my reviews in the review section), I liked it to a point but on the whole was not overly impressed or blown away by it. To me really the only reason you do buy this car is diesel (and maybe rear seat space). So mostly I am curious about mpg and gas cost per mile.- 12 replies

Two-Mode Hybrid system is $10,000+
regfootball replied to Flybrian's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
GM is laying in the weeds with the truck hybrid to avoid criticism but by all i hear it is excellent. 20mpg in normal driving in a truck is quite good. Maybe the next powertrain will get the hybrid built into it. -
another consumer of mine made a comment about $h!ty the Versa was yesterday! LMAO......

Nissan News: Crossing Pathfinder: Nissan Reveals The 2013 Pathfinder

the move to the crossover is to please the majority market and losing 500 lbs is a plus. they still have the armada? or no... the styling OTOH is a huge dud. bland, sell out. yuck. -

Lincoln should only have like 3 or 4 cars. i.e. where they are now? LOL MKZ....MKS.....a small one, MKX, not sure they need an MKT although I like it myself. Maybe a small crossover. MKr is a car that should have been.

a complaint i hear a lot from customers is that the cars they are driving are too light for winter. cars like the altima, mazda3, etc. you never really hear a GM owner complain that their car is too light. I think ford has fixed the dual clutch problems on the focus for awhile now. I drove a new one that shifted great. I have an acquaintance who has one and he said a tranny flash took care of all the gremlins on his. Although ain't it funny, the fusion is not dual clutch. If i believe reviews, the new Versa sedan is the worst new car on the road.

my hope is when ford has the 2.3 ecoboost ready for the mustang that they move that in to the taurus, flex, explorer, mkt etc. that little bit extra displacement i think can help a lot for these larger fords. I think ford is looking to lighten all its vehicles but the P90 volvo platform these are all on, i doubt they will try to replace it. so they need to boost up the engine IMO.

lmao. although i admit, the notion of 28mpg in this thing is intriguing. now how about a 2.0 eb flex?
-
sort of shocked but i admit the RDX was a good save and the CRV while milquetoast is dead eye on the segment.

Subaru, like VW has cheapened their product but they still have managed to hang on to their weird customer base. I do not hear much good about how these new Subies hold up or drive...although when i have driven them they seem pleasant enough. Just not at all entertaining. The fact that the IMpreza has real room inside is a big thing.

i think they will and deserve to. the miata is very important to the mazda image, but the failure of the mazda6 to sell over the last few years is what has really done mazda in. CX-5 is blasting out of showrooms. Mazda3 has a good track record. New Mazda6 needs to be a hit for Mazda to make out alright.
