  1. whoa, now i must see where i have that. it was pale minty green..... it had the slotted century grille. ok, this was the body style and the grille design... this was the color?
  2. they must keep the ILX for the tough to finance people... when they get declined on the RDX they wanted talk em into an ILX. People don't come in looking for one
  3. i went to look at a used cadillac at a BMW dealer this past weekend and it had been a long time since i looked at their metal. BMW's lineup is ridiculous. The X2 in particular is ridiculous. X1 makes sense to me (i might pitch that idea to my Mom) but the shape of the X2 is simultaneously dated, stupid, goofy, many things. Yes, its an SUV! and a coupe! with a low roof!
  4. the 2.0 doesn't up nominal power but is a slight bit faster, but the main change is i think its atkinson cycle. https://www.guideautoweb.com/en/articles/43112/volkswagen-s-new-2.0t-potentially-the-engine-of-the-year/ correction, not any faster. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2018-volkswagen-passat-20t-test-review Verdict: Engine revisions do not elevate this sedan above the mundane middle.
  5. Passats can be had cheaply brand new. Forward the clock 10-12 months from now and you'll get a nicely equipped Passat Wolfsburg with blind spot and AEB for not much more than 22-23k. And yet GM still still wants to add expensive packages to all its brands to have any of these simple items like blind spot monitoring.
  6. There really was in this case no valid reason for VW to downsize the base engine. Now perhaps an entry trim, but to move down to the 1.4 vs the 1.8 is totally a reactionary move to regulations.
  7. All this forced CAFE crap
  8. yes, i have determined they are doing this to make cheap trannies in mexico and they are going to force them into GM's product line, like it or not. A good cruze uplevel performance option would be the 1.5t from the terrain with the 9 speed auto. i've rented that class before. Lots of Sentras, Corollas etc. get rented as well as Cruze. GM wants to get these out in the wild and fleets are one way to do it
  9. When the youngsters get in for that test drive for their first car they will buy with a car loan and they hear that engine scream for redline while the cvt is scurrying to do its thing, they’ll think that’s purfurments oh and the leather wrapped wheel no need to go to Pep boys for a steering wheel cover But is it EXCITEMENT!?

  12. ok, doesn't drive faster, and mpg might go up 1 mpg city. What is the point of the CVT then? Save fifty? or a couple hundred bucks? a car because the new CVT is cheaper and made in Mexico? So good old GM, it has to come down to $$$$ Why not use the higher power 1.5 and 9 speed from the Terrain in here? The mpg may go down a bit. But it would help with the low end acceleration issues. The 1.5 fwd Malibu only has a 2mpg advantage over the Terrain 1.5 fwd 9 speed. Which i bet is a lot because the aerodynamics and weight of an SUV vs sedan accounts for a lot of that 2 mpg. I don't like the RS spoiler. Will heated seats be an option with cloth? Moonroof? What's the point of a sporty car without a sunroof? Chevy should provide a 2.0 option on the RS that does not require you to go all the way up to a Premier. I bet it would be popular. Oh but, CAFE. That whole attitude is shitty because Chevy could move a lot of 2.0/9 speed Malibus i feel if it were a more price friendly upgrade. An "RS 2.0 performance upgrade package" would do it. The 2.0/9 speed plus enhanced suspension settings and maybe even brakes. Maybe the 'RS performance package' has a unique cloth / leatherette seat design too. Like the new front end a lot, the RS wheels are really nice. Hate the spoiler but from some angles it looks purposeful.

  14. meh. I still remember around the 2000 era when i worked in the quaint lake town. i walked out of the office at work and a stunning Z9 was parked outside. I had to run and get the camera to take a picture. this picture wasn't that car but shows what the styling was. Still one of the few times I was blown away by how cool a car looked. this Z4 has none of that
  15. they just keep pecking away at continual improvements. Hyundai USA makes them easy to buy with lots of features for the money and easy financing and good warranty. They just keep pecking away.
  16. and it's time to move their electrics to larger usable sizes and also mainstream the styling. We've kind of hit the era now where electrics need to look like a normal vehicle. Not "hey look at me I'm a raging environerd" This Kona electric is one of the best looking electrics out there.
  17. i drove this body style a couple years back or so and was not at all impressed, it was sloppy heavy and sluggish, but maybe they have improved some things. and it wasn't tricked out like this one. thing is, hyundai will keep improving their stuff and someday their low costs will help them takeover more and more segments. at some point their interiors will be better than cadillacs too considering how cadillac can't up their interior game.
  18. i think a lot of folks like to drive manuals including me, but unless its a toy car (ie third car) i can't see owning another. why? traffic. TRAFFIC.
  19. this is the sort of wrapper the sedan will need to move to to compete with the perceived usefulness advantage of an SUV. Something significantly larger inside than typical sedans. Note how its cab forward and stretched backend, and possible hatch. long wheelbase, sits a bit taller than sedans now but not so freaking low. This is the direction something like an Impala should go if it survives. Perhaps make it about 2" more tall and add a very good ingress and egress setup.
  20. that is how they can have one model look trucky and the other one look fastback coupey. Which GM hasn't caught onto much yet, but i think that is what is happening with the CUV market. its splintering into the part that wants it to look like a truck / old school SUV, and the other that wants it to look like a jacked up sexy sedan or coupe, or at a minimum look sleeker than trucky.
  21. Exactly. Audis quite honestly are chick cars mostly and corn state large boys (a lot of GM's core fan base) don't really get into Audis like the women who like those interiors and dashboards and precise and tidy do. Honestly though go to an auto show and listen to men bitch about how Cadillacs have no room. I had to rethink something balthazar had said earlier about styling. I was out driving a bit ago and was stuck behind two Audis side by side, both about 2-3 years old. Both the exact same dull dark gray color. One was an A3 sedan and the other was an A4 sedan. You can BARELY tell them apart from behind... just a bit of difference in the trunk lids and the license plate, very much like the story on autoblog described trying to spot the CT4 and CT5 differences. The A3 and A4 are not styling marvels! Audi never really does much different looking in terms of styling sometimes. More and more we can see how Johan got pissed off and also maybe he was part of the problem too! He may have said, the A3 and A4 look the same so why not have a CT4 and CT5 you can barely tell apart.
  22. It will all be epic fail if they don't carve out more leg room in the back. Use the ATS-L chassis then. Believe me every year when i go to autoshows and am in the cadillac area i hear people bitch about how the ATS is a useless car due to its back seat. Cadillac forgot a lot of its base are large muhricans and even if the ATS were as comfortable as a c class in the rear it would be ok. But its not. Cadillac buyers expect more usable space. Between the useless interior and cheap interior (and pricing) is why the ATS isn't lighting up the sales charts. So, to redo the car and not fix any of that, they might as well not try. I thought the Alfa Romeo Guilia was the new handling champ.
  23. lol good point. remember in Hyundai's case, when they dropped the 2011 Sonata bomb on the market, the perception of their brand styling changed overnight. Cadillac had that happen in 92 with the Seville and STS and maybe we can count the original CTS on that. The 96 Aurora outdid any Cadillac in terms of style (it was supposed to be a Cadillac, right?). Apart from that its hard to remember many Cadillacs as memorable styling for what, over 30 years? Cadillac has reduced itself to a trim package for GM cars, not much more. Except for the rare few V's and now CT6 v8 models.
