  1. they were brave soldiers. i cant see how in any way they could be continued.
  2. im thinking the word of mouth will be good on the aura. there really arent too many cars people run out to buy. even the camry had a lackluster start and thats a shoe in to sell well. the malibu will strike a similar chord the 300 hit if its not overhyped by then.
  3. aura sales will at least triple by next month. i dont get to watch too much tv but the most commercials from gm ive seen lately are for the aura. hummer caddy pontiac after that. in that order.
  4. http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayServlet...n=6&docid=29391 buick up 4%, too
  5. they are kind of funny. it just amazes me what low volume that is because it seems like i see mitsubishis all over the damn place. lord knows they stand out. 10k units? and that was a good month.
  6. havent seen gms yet but it may be subject to intrepetation. i.e. long term goals or fleet reduction. if thats the case and it is toyota maybe fleet sales will be seen in a good light soon enough and they, GM, can start them up again. that is to say:"wow! if they use toyotas they must be good enough for me!" my car will get excellent resale value because they are toyota tough! good for ford, i know i like seeing those zephyrs and fusions, etc. they garner quite a few compliments. no reason they shouldnt put up a fight.
  7. thats very cromulent. you mustve have read too. i like those scenarios and certainly isnt unpossible to embiggen the outlook of globalized paltforms. i think the corsa is going to be a textbook example. the aveo, sky/opel collaborations and finally the holdens. this breakdown has been going on for a while and the interview with lutz certainly indicated the determination of successfuly pooling the resources of a global platform. i also liked the gto and understand it was polarizing. but i also believed it set up a barometer to measure interest in sharing platforms. if not exactly hitting the nail on the head regarding design but cerrtainly mechanics. there are big plans that are only beginning to sort out. we see examples of it rolling off the lines right now, even if it is only in its infancy.
  8. how come "hummer" is a "protected" forum? (not that i care all that much about hummer news--its the only one of the brands thats locked)
  9. its pretty official this isnt meant to be at this time. focus has shifted and this concept was pretty much doa. at least it stirred up some positive talk for a while. maybe theyll cut 4 cylinders and earn the respect again of the benz' bimmers' and bentlys buyers of the world. the cadillac 16 concept from top gear. http://youtube.com/watch?v=4BBekU-CcZ0&mode=related&search=
  10. i saw a magazine advertisement from subaru from the late seventies and was basically bitching toyota out and listing all their shortcomings and all of subarus finer points... one of which was fwd. it was definately perceived as the way to go for a long long time and still is. good luck undrilling that message.
  11. hmmm. that sounds ominious. aside from the orange cheeze doodle looking leather combo which doesnt come off looking so hot to me it still is a saturn. that really is awful looking to me probably because it wasnt pulled off so perfect but i still have a hard time believing the pictures at the start of this were an accurate indication of the quality as a whole. the sloppiness i can believe. also one point of concern was the door handle on the inside. someone commented they were "flimsy" that is a sad oversight because more so than any other thing else inside that car onse you are inside you are gauranteed to touch that handle to get out. it should have a reinsuring quality to it. thats not a great indicator to me.
  12. regardless though, people seem to like this car. and from what i gather fully loaded its still less than a camry. -- just glossing over the edmunds and yahoo autos reviews it appears to be generally liked. the morracon leather does look tacky to me in the least. and the wood although fake its pretty standard affair. hyundai has gotten away with murder as well as others for assembling questionable interiors. bottom line is most wont be offended by it. funny enough one review i read on the above mentioned sites noted the interior fit and finish and misaligned panels....oddly enough liked the leather appointments but found other faults. and evidently still purchased. i think its gonna do just fine. perhaps not to the more scrutinizing eye, but i think it has a more intangible quality to it that becomes apparent after testing/buying it. in other words its not just another mass produced trinket.
  13. the cavs really arent bad cars at all. crude? maybe....at times but fine transportation and from my experiences very reliable. one in particular i recall too some severe abuse and kept ticking easily past 100k. the seats definately do suck though. as far as fwd, one of the most striking or memorable moments for for me was 48 hrs w/ nick nolte/eddie murphy. there a scene with noltes caddy ? peeling out and the front tires spinning and smoking like no tomorrow and it just went. perfectly executed. the drive by wire sysyems and general lack of torque steer in the pontiacs, esp for me, are truly un invasive... obviously not the same as rwd but certainly liveable.
  14. could it be...lemans. they still own the name as auidi recently found out. and perhaps a gto down the road? not a bad deal either way.
  15. thats pretty hard luck. also great to see you had pictures with the time stamps sounds like somebody wanted to part it out for themselves. always remember to demand to speak with a supervisor if someone starts giving you lip. i had one semi-bad, actually just difficult time with someones insurance co. wound up getting the check x-pressed over night. good luck with all that.
  16. yup. could be what hes up to... does anyone have any idea what this old codger is up to? 90 yrs old and wheeling and dealin'.
  17. its not like lead in paint or asbestos. no $h! its bad for you. every time you eat incredibly good and delicious and ask whats in this invariably the answer comes back you probably dont want to know. good things are bad for you. hey, thats life. you can just about kill yourself with anything. or someone else. and msg is a flavor. it actually fits into one of the taste buds. salty, sweet bitter etc. its called umami. sadly many on this part of the earth are alergic and therefore have bad reaction, thus the stigma. too bad though...mmmm. msg. its ok though because lactose products dont typicall go as well over in asia. the hell with the ban. people need to get some brains and take care of themselves and stop blaming everyone else.
  18. hmmm, perhaps not then... basically, if you have a copyrightable material and you put it in an envelope, have it post marked and then mail it to yourself and keep it unopened...its supposedly binding. ive never really heard any confirmation of it or not. ive played in bands and it was always a method to keep lyrics or lines from being copied. i thought you may have come across that at some point or maybe just arent familiar with that term?
  19. they could call it the clio ms or the ms clio. maybe even do something clever with the on board navigation. thatd surely draw some into the showrooms. the truth is nissan thought gm was/is worse off then they probably could be/orpossibly are. figured they could just dive in there and make a killing. another gohn slaughtering. ahhh and it goes on. itd be pretty nice if a mutually good deal could come from all these talks.
  20. cd: does the poor man copyright actually hold water? i figure this should be in your realm of knowledge and maybe experience.
  21. that really is some hot sh*t. along the lines of what top gear does. this sort of testing should have been going on all along. how else are you gonna know if a transmission works to its potential or perhaps more importantly the brakes. cars were meant to be driven.
  22. hummers for all. that could be the catchy new tagline. if they do go ahead with it they should concentrate mainly on ruggedness and off road capability. basically like wmj stated above. maybe cull the military derived platforms to some small degree. not sure who makes it but turbo diesels along with 6 speeds are part of armed forces equipment. keep it small, to the point and make some more people happy.
  23. funny and true. especially if the republicans lose the majority during these mid term elections, a couple of phone calls later and gas is back up to 3 and change. its just weird how a few years ago gas was say a buck nine then summer came and it shot up to 1.14...and it was like wow...must be summer. theres no reason for price to jump up 200% unless its a result of gouging and unfair biz practices. and given record profits and billion dolalr retirement pax it should certainly be raising more questions---and probably has.
  24. so far so good. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england...ire/5369512.stm http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/showbiz/arti...rash/article.do
  25. That was the most they got out of their venture with subaru. they combed the parts bin for all the o, u's, t's and k's. penny pinching cheap-o's looks pretty damn nice.
